1 S o Israel traveled with all he had to Beersheba. There he gave gifts to the God of his father Isaac.
So Israel made his journey with all that he had and came to Beersheba and offered sacrifices to the God of his father Isaac.
2 G od spoke to Israel in special dreams in the night, saying, “Jacob, Jacob.” And Jacob answered, “Here I am.”
And God spoke to Israel in visions of the night, and said, Jacob! Jacob! And he said, Here am I.
3 H e said, “I am God, the God of your father. Do not be afraid to go to Egypt. For I will make you a great nation there.
And He said, I am God, the God of your father; do not be afraid to go down to Egypt, for I will there make of you a great nation.
4 I will go with you to Egypt. I will bring you out again. And Joseph’s hand will close your eyes.”
I will go down with you to Egypt, and I will also surely bring you up again; and Joseph will put his hand upon your eyes.
5 T hen Jacob left Beersheba. The sons of Israel carried their father Jacob, their little ones and their wives in the wagons which Pharaoh had sent to carry him.
So Jacob arose and set out from Beersheba, and Israel’s sons conveyed their father, their little ones, and their wives in the wagons that Pharaoh had sent to carry him.
6 T hey took their animals and all the things they owned from the land of Canaan. And they came to Egypt, Jacob and all his children with him,
And they took their cattle and the gains which they had acquired in the land of Canaan and came into Egypt, Jacob and all his offspring with him:
7 h is sons and grandsons, his daughters and granddaughters. He brought all his children with him to Egypt.
His sons and his sons’ sons with him, his daughters and his sons’ daughters—all his offspring he brought with him into Egypt.
8 T hese are the names of the sons of Israel who came to Egypt, Jacob and his sons: Reuben, Jacob’s firstborn,
And these are the names of the descendants of Israel who came into Egypt, Jacob and his sons: Reuben, Jacob’s firstborn.
9 a nd Reuben’s sons Hanoch, Pallu, Hezron, and Carmi.
And the sons of Reuben: Hanoch, Pallu, Hezron, and Carmi.
10 T he sons of Simeon were Jemuel, Jamin, Ohad, Jachin, Zohar, and Shaul, the son of a Canaanite woman.
The sons of Simeon: Jemuel, Jamin, Ohad, Jachin, Zohar, and Shaul the son of a Canaanite woman.
11 T he sons of Levi were Gershon, Kohath and Merari.
The sons of Levi: Gershon, Kohath, and Merari.
12 T he sons of Judah were Er, Onan, Shelah, Perez, and Zerah (but Er and Onan died in the land of Canaan). The sons of Perez were Hezron and Hamul.
The sons of Judah: Er, Onan, Shelah, Perez, and Zerah; but Er and Onan died in the land of Canaan. And the sons of Perez were Hezron and Hamul.
13 T he sons of Issachar were Tola, Puvvah, Iob, and Shimron.

14 T he sons of Zebulun were Sered, Elon and Jahleel.
The sons of Zebulun: Sered, Elon, and Jahleel.
15 T hese are the sons who were born to Leah and Jacob in Paddan-aram, with his daughter Dinah. He had thirty-three sons and daughters.
These are the sons of Leah, whom she bore to Jacob in Padan-aram, together with his daughter Dinah. All of his sons and his daughters numbered thirty-three.
16 T he sons of Gad were Ziphion, Haggi, Shuni, Ezbon, Eri, Arodi, and Areli.
The sons of Gad: Ziphion, Haggi, Shuni, Ezbon, Eri, Arodi, and Areli.
17 T he sons of Asher were Imnah, Ishvah, Ishvi, Beriah, and their sister Serah. The sons of Beriah were Heber and Malchiel.
The sons of Asher: Imnah, Ishvah, Ishvi, Beriah, and Serah their sister. And the sons of Beriah: Heber and Malchiel.
18 T hese are the sons of Jacob and Zilpah, the woman whom Laban gave to his daughter Leah. She gave birth to sixteen of Jacob’s children.
These are the sons of Zilpah, whom Laban gave to Leah his daughter. And these she bore to Jacob—sixteen persons all told.
19 T he sons of Jacob’s wife Rachel were Joseph and Benjamin.
The sons of Rachel, Jacob’s wife: Joseph and Benjamin.
20 T he sons of Joseph in the land of Egypt were Manasseh and Ephraim. Their mother was Asenath, the daughter of Potiphera, the religious leader of On.
And to Joseph in the land of Egypt were born Manasseh and Ephraim, whom Asenath daughter of Potiphera, priest of On, bore to him.
21 T he sons of Benjamin were Bela, Becher, Ashbel, Gera, Naaman, Ehi, Rosh, Muppim, Huppim, and Ard.
And the sons of Benjamin: Bela, Becher, Ashbel, Gera, Naaman, Ehi, Rosh, Muppim, Huppim, and Ard.
22 T hese are the sons of Jacob and Rachel, fourteen sons in all.
These are the sons of Rachel, who were born to Jacob—fourteen persons in all.
23 D an’s son was Hushim.
The son of Dan: Hushim.
24 T he sons of Naphtali were Jahzeel, Guni, Jezer, and Shillem.
The sons of Naphtali: Jahzeel, Guni, Jezer, and Shillem.
25 T hese are the sons of Jacob and Bilhah, the woman whom Laban gave to his daughter Rachel. There were seven sons in all.
These are the sons of Bilhah, whom Laban gave to Rachel his daughter. And she bore these to Jacob—seven persons in all.
26 A ll the people who came to Egypt with Jacob, the children of his own body, were sixty-six people in all. Added to this were the wives of Jacob’s sons.
All the persons who came with Jacob into Egypt—who were his own offspring, not counting the wives of Jacob’s sons—were sixty-six persons all told.
27 T wo sons were born to Joseph in Egypt. So all the people of Jacob’s family when he came to Egypt were seventy. Jacob Lives in Goshen
And the sons of Joseph, who were born to him in Egypt, were two persons. All the persons of the house of Jacob, who came into Egypt, were seventy.
28 J acob sent Judah ahead of him to Joseph to learn the way to Goshen. And they came to the land of Goshen.
And he sent Judah before him to Joseph, to direct him to Goshen and meet him there; and they came into the land of Goshen.
29 T hen Joseph made his wagon ready and went to Goshen to meet his father Israel. When he came to him, they put their arms around each other and cried for a long time.
Then Joseph made ready his chariot and went up to meet Israel his father in Goshen; and he presented himself and gave distinct evidence of himself to him, and fell on the neck and wept on his neck a good while.
30 T hen Israel said to Joseph, “Now let me die, since I have seen your face and know that you are still alive.”
And Israel said to Joseph, Now let me die, since I have seen your face that you are still alive.
31 J oseph said to his brothers and to his father’s family, “I will go and tell Pharaoh, ‘My brothers and my father’s family have come to me from the land of Canaan.
Joseph said to his brothers and to his father’s household, I will go up and tell Pharaoh and say to him, My brothers and my father’s household, who were in the land of Canaan, have come to me.
32 A nd the men are shepherds, for they have taken care of animals. They have brought their flocks and cattle and all they have.’
And the men are shepherds, for their occupation has been keeping livestock, and they have brought their flocks and their herds and all that they have.
33 W hen Pharaoh calls you and says, ‘What is your work?’
When Pharaoh calls you and says, What is your occupation?
34 y ou answer, ‘Your servants have taken care of cattle since we were young, both we and our fathers.’ Then he will let you live in the land of Goshen. For the Egyptians look down upon every shepherd.”
You shall say, Your servants’ occupation has been as keepers of livestock from our youth until now, both we and our fathers before us—in order that you may live in the land of Goshen, for every shepherd is an abomination to the Egyptians.
