Isaiah 27 ~ Isaiah 27

1 I n that day the Lord will punish Leviathan, the large snake-like sea animal, with His sharp and great and powerful sword. He will punish Leviathan the turning snake, and kill the big dragon that lives in the sea.

In that day His sharp and unrelenting, great, and strong sword will visit and punish Leviathan the swiftly fleeing serpent, Leviathan the twisting and winding serpent; and He will slay the monster that is in the sea.

2 I n that day it will be said: “Sing about a grape-field of wine!

In that day, A vineyard beloved and lovely; sing a responsive song to it and about it!

3 I , the Lord, am its keeper. I water it all the time. I watch over it day and night so no one will hurt it.

I, the Lord, am its Keeper; I water it every moment; lest anyone harm it, I guard and keep it night and day.

4 I am not angry. If someone were to give Me thistles and thorns in battle, I would step on them. I would burn them together.

Wrath is not in Me. Would that the briers and thorns were lined up against Me in battle! I would stride in against them; I would burn them up together.

5 O r let him trust in Me to keep him safe. Let him make peace with Me. Yes, let him make peace with Me.”

Or else, let them take hold of My strength and make complete surrender to My protection, that they may make peace with Me! Yes, let them make peace with Me!

6 I n the days to come Jacob will take root. Israel will flower and begin to grow, and fill the whole world with fruit.

In the days and generations to come Jacob shall take root; Israel shall blossom and send forth shoots and fill the whole world with fruit.

7 H as the Lord punished Israel as He punished those who went against Israel? Or have as many people of Israel been killed as their killers were killed?

Has smitten as He smote those who smote them? Or have been slain as their slayers were slain?

8 Y ou showed Your anger towards them by driving them out of the land. You moved them out with Your strong wind on the day of the east wind.

By driving them out of Canaan, by exile, You contended with them in a measure —He removed them with His rough blast as in the day of the east wind.

9 S o by this Jacob’s sin will be forgiven. This will be the full price of taking his sin away: When he crushes all the altar stones into fine pieces, so the wooden female goddess Asherah and the altars of special perfume will not stand.

Only on this condition shall the iniquity of Jacob (Israel) be forgiven and purged, and this shall be the full fruit for taking away his sin: that should make all the stones of the altars like chalk stones crushed to pieces, so that the Asherim and the sun-images shall not remain standing or rise again.

10 T he city made strong for battle is empty and alone, a place left alone like the desert. The calves eat there, and they lie down and eat from its branches.

For the fortified city is solitary, a habitation deserted and forsaken like the wilderness; there the calf grazes, and there he lies down; he strips its branches and eats its twigs.

11 W hen its branches are dry, they are broken off. Women come and make a fire with them. They are not a people of understanding, so their Maker will not have pity on them. The One Who made them will not show kindness to them.

When its boughs are withered and dry, they are broken off; the women come and set them afire. For they are a people of no understanding or discernment— witless folk; therefore He Who made them will not have compassion on them, and He Who formed them will show them no favor.

12 I n that day the Lord will beat out His grain from the flowing river of the Euphrates to the river of Egypt. And you will be gathered up one by one, O sons of Israel.

And it shall be in that day that the Lord will thresh out His grain from the flood of the River to the Brook of Egypt, and you will be gathered one by one and one to another, O children of Israel!

13 I n that day a great horn will be blown. Those who were dying in the land of Assyria and those who were sent everywhere through the land of Egypt will come and worship the Lord on the holy mountain at Jerusalem.

And it shall be in that day that a great trumpet will be blown; and they will come who were lost and ready to perish in the land of Assyria and those who were driven out to the land of Egypt, and they will worship the Lord on the holy mountain at Jerusalem.
