1 T he special word against Moab: Ar of Moab is destroyed and laid waste in a night. And in a night Kir of Moab is destroyed and laid waste.

The mournful, inspired prediction (a burden to be lifted up) concerning Moab: Because in a night Ar of Moab is laid waste and brought to silence! Because in a night Kir of Moab is laid waste and brought to silence!

2 T hey have gone up to the house of worship and to Dibon. They have gone to the high places to cry. Moab cries over Nebo and Medeba. The hair has been cut from everyone’s head and face.

They are gone up to Bayith and to Dibon, to the high places to weep. Moab wails over Nebo and over Medeba; on all their heads is baldness, and every beard is cut off.

3 I n their streets they have dressed themselves with cloth made from hair. On the tops of their houses and in their open spaces everyone is crying with many tears.

In their streets they gird themselves with sackcloth; on the tops of their houses and in their broad places everyone wails, weeping abundantly.

4 H eshbon and Elealeh cry out also. Their voice is heard as far as Jahaz. So the soldiers of Moab cry out. Moab’s soul shakes within him.

And Heshbon and Elealeh cry out; their voice is heard even to Jahaz. Therefore the armed soldiers of Moab cry out; life is grievous and trembles within him.

5 M y heart cries out for Moab. His men have run away as far as Zoar and Eglath-shelishiyah. For they go up the hill of Luhith crying. On the road to Horonaim they cry in sorrow over their being destroyed.

My heart cries out for Moab; his nobles and other fugitives flee to Zoar, to Eglath-shelishiyah. For with weeping they go up the ascent of Luhith; for on the road to Horonaim they raise a cry of destruction.

6 F or the waters of Nimrim have been laid waste. The grass is dried up. The new grass died out. There is no green thing.

For the waters of Nimrim are desolations, for the grass is withered away and the new growth fails; there is no green thing.

7 S o the many things they have gathered and stored up they carry away over the river of Arabim.

Therefore the abundance they have acquired and stored away they carry over the willow brook and to the valley of the Arabians.

8 T he cry of sorrow has gone around the land of Moab. Its noise is heard as far as Eglaim and Beer-elim.

For the cry has gone round the borders of Moab; the wailing has reached to Eglaim, and the prolonged and mournful cry to Beer-elim.

9 T he waters of Dimon are full of blood. Yet I will bring more troubles to Dimon. I will bring a lion upon those of Moab who have run away, and upon the people of the land who are still alive.

For the waters of Dimon are full of blood; yet I will bring even more on Dimon—a lion upon those of Moab who escape and upon the remnant of the land.
