1 T hen the angel showed me the river of the water of life. It was as clear as glass and came from the throne of God and of the Lamb.
Then he showed me the river whose waters give life, sparkling like crystal, flowing out from the throne of God and of the Lamb
2 I t runs down the center of the street in the city. On each side of the river was the tree of life. It gives twelve different kinds of fruit. It gives this fruit twelve times a year, new fruit each month. Its leaves are used to heal the nations.
Through the middle of the broadway of the city; also, on either side of the river was the tree of life with its twelve varieties of fruit, yielding each month its fresh crop; and the leaves of the tree were for the healing and the restoration of the nations.
3 T here will be nothing in the city that is sinful. The place where God and the Lamb sit will be there. The servants He owns will serve Him.
There shall no longer exist there anything that is accursed (detestable, foul, offensive, impure, hateful, or horrible). But the throne of God and of the Lamb shall be in it, and His servants shall worship Him.
4 T hey will see His face and His name will be written on their foreheads.
They shall see His face, and His name shall be on their foreheads.
5 T here will be no night there. There will be no need for a light or for the sun. Because the Lord God will be their light. They will be leaders forever. Jesus Is Coming Soon
And there shall be no more night; they have no need for lamplight or sunlight, for the Lord God will illuminate them and be their light, and they shall reign forever and ever (through the eternities of the eternities).
6 T hen the angel said to me, “These words are faithful and true. The Lord God of the early preachers has sent His angel to show the servants He owns what must happen soon.”
And he said to me, These statements are reliable (worthy of confidence) and genuine (true). And the Lord, the God of the spirits of the prophets, has sent His messenger (angel) to make known and exhibit to His servants what must soon come to pass.
7 “ See! I am coming soon. The one who obeys what is written in this Book is happy!”
And behold, I am coming speedily. Blessed (happy and to be envied) is he who observes and lays to heart and keeps the truths of the prophecy (the predictions, consolations, and warnings) contained in this book.
8 I t was I, John, who heard and saw these things. Then I got down at the feet of the angel who showed me these things. I was going to worship him.
And I, John, am he who heard and witnessed these things. And when I heard and saw them, I fell prostrate before the feet of the messenger (angel) who showed them to me, to worship him.
9 B ut he said to me, “No! You must not do that. I am a servant together with you and with your Christian brothers and the early preachers and with all those who obey the words in this Book. You must worship God!”
But he said to me, Refrain! I am a fellow servant along with yourself and with your brethren the prophets and with those who are mindful of and practice the messages of this book. Worship God!
10 T hen he said to me, “Do not lock up the words of this Book. These things will happen soon.
And he told me, Do not seal up the words of the prophecy of this book and make no secret of them, for the time when things are brought to a crisis and the period of their fulfillment is near.
11 A nd let the sinful people keep on being sinful. Let the dirty-minded people keep on being dirty-minded. And let those right with God keep on being right with God. Let the holy people keep on being holy.
He who is unrighteous (unjust, wicked), let him be unrighteous still; and he who is filthy (vile, impure), let him be filthy still; and he who is righteous (just, upright, in right standing with God), let him do right still; and he who is holy, let him be holy still.
12 “ See! I am coming soon. I am bringing with Me the reward I will give to everyone for what he has done.
Behold, I am coming soon, and I shall bring My wages and rewards with Me, to repay and render to each one just what his own actions and his own work merit.
13 I am the First and the Last. I am the beginning and the end.
I am the Alpha and the Omega, the First and the Last (the Before all and the End of all).
14 T hose who wash their clothes clean are happy (who are washed by the blood of the Lamb). They will have the right to go into the city through the gates. They will have the right to eat the fruit of the tree of life.
Blessed (happy and to be envied) are those who cleanse their garments, that they may have the authority and right to the tree of life and to enter through the gates into the city.
15 O utside the city are the dogs. They are people who follow witchcraft and those who do sex sins and those who kill other people and those who worship false gods and those who like lies and tell them.
without are the dogs and those who practice sorceries (magic arts) and impurity and the murderers and idolaters and everyone who loves and deals in falsehood (untruth, error, deception, cheating).
16 “ I am Jesus. I have sent My angel to you with these words to the churches. I am the beginning of David and of his family. I am the bright Morning Star.”
I, Jesus, have sent My messenger (angel) to you to witness and to give you assurance of these things for the churches (assemblies). I am the Root (the Source) and the Offspring of David, the radiant and brilliant Morning Star.
17 T he Holy Spirit and the Bride say, “Come!” Let the one who hears, say, “Come!” Let the one who is thirsty, come. Let the one who wants to drink of the water of life, drink it. It is a free gift.
The Spirit and the bride (the church, the true Christians) say, Come! And let him who is listening say, Come! And let everyone come who is thirsty '> of those things by which the soul is refreshed, supported, and strengthened]; and whoever desires to do it, let him come, take, appropriate, and drink the water of Life without cost.
18 I am telling everyone who hears the words that are written in this book: If anyone adds anything to what is written in this book, God will add to him the kinds of trouble that this book tells about.
I warn everyone who listens to the statements of the prophecy '> predictions and the consolations and admonitions pertaining to them] in this book: If anyone shall add anything to them, God will add and lay upon him the plagues (the afflictions and the calamities) that are recorded and described in this book.
19 I f anyone takes away any part of this book that tells what will happen in the future, God will take away his part from the tree of life and from the Holy City, which are told about in this book.
And if anyone cancels or takes away from the statements of the book of this prophecy '> predictions relating to Christ’s kingdom and its speedy triumph, together with the consolations and admonitions or warnings pertaining to them], God will cancel and take away from him his share in the tree of life and in the city of holiness (purity and hallowedness), which are described and promised in this book.
20 H e Who tells these things says, “Yes, I am coming soon!” Let it be so. Come, Lord Jesus.
He Who gives this warning and affirms and testifies to these things says, Yes (it is true). I am coming quickly (swiftly, speedily). Amen (so let it be)! Yes, come, Lord Jesus!
21 M ay all of you have the loving-favor of the Lord Jesus Christ. Let it be so.
The grace (blessing and favor) of the Lord Jesus Christ (the Messiah) be with all the saints (God’s holy people, those set apart for God, to be, as it were, exclusively His). Amen (so let it be)!
