1 J esus came down from the mountain. Many people followed Him.
When Jesus came down from the mountain, great throngs followed Him.
2 A man with a bad skin disease came and got down before Him and worshiped Him. He said, “Lord, if You will, You can heal me!”
And behold, a leper came up to Him and, prostrating himself, worshiped Him, saying, Lord, if You are willing, You are able to cleanse me by curing me.
3 T hen Jesus put His hand on him and said, “I will. You are healed!” At once the man was healed.
And He reached out His hand and touched him, saying, I am willing; be cleansed by being cured. And instantly his leprosy was cured and cleansed.
4 J esus said to him, “Go now, but tell no one. Let the religious leader see you. Give the gift in worship that Moses told you to give. This will show them you have been healed.” Healing of the Captain’s Servant
And Jesus said to him, See that you tell nothing about this to anyone; but go, show yourself to the priest and present the offering that Moses commanded, for a testimony and as an evidence to the people.
5 J esus came to the city of Capernaum. A captain of the army came to Him. He asked for help,
As Jesus went into Capernaum, a centurion came up to Him, begging Him,
6 s aying, “Lord, my servant is sick in bed. He is not able to move his body. He is in much pain.”
And saying, Lord, my servant boy is lying at the house paralyzed and distressed with intense pains.
7 J esus said to the captain, “I will come and heal him.”
And Jesus said to him, I will come and restore him.
8 T he captain said, “Lord, I am not good enough for You to come to my house. Only speak the word, and my servant will be healed.
But the centurion replied to Him, Lord, I am not worthy or fit to have You come under my roof; but only speak the word, and my servant boy will be cured.
9 I am a man who works for someone else and I have men working under me. I say to this man, ‘Go!’ and he goes. I say to another, ‘Come!’ and he comes. I say to my servant, ‘Do this!’ and he does it.”
For I also am a man subject to authority, with soldiers subject to me. And I say to one, Go, and he goes; and to another, Come, and he comes; and to my slave, Do this, and he does it.
10 W hen Jesus heard this, He was surprised and wondered about it. He said to those who followed Him, “For sure, I tell you, I have not found so much faith in the Jewish nation.
When Jesus heard him, He marveled and said to those who followed Him '> who adhered steadfastly to Him, conforming to His example in living and, if need be, in dying also], I tell you truly, I have not found so much faith as this with anyone, even in Israel.
11 I say to you, many people will come from the east and from the west. They will sit down with Abraham and with Isaac and with Jacob in the holy nation of heaven.
I tell you, many will come from east and west, and will sit at table with Abraham, Isaac, and Jacob in the kingdom of heaven,
12 B ut those who should have belonged to the holy nation of heaven will be thrown out into outer darkness, where there will be crying and grinding of teeth.”
While the sons and heirs of the kingdom will be driven out into the darkness outside, where there will be weeping and grinding of teeth.
13 J esus said to the captain, “Go your way. It is done for you even as you had faith to believe.” The servant was healed at that time. Peter’s Mother-In-Law Healed
Then to the centurion Jesus said, Go; it shall be done for you as you have believed. And the servant boy was restored to health at that very moment.
14 J esus came to Peter’s house. He saw Peter’s wife’s mother in bed. She was very sick.
And when Jesus went into Peter’s house, He saw his mother-in-law lying ill with a fever.
15 H e touched her hand and the sickness left her. She got up and cared for Jesus. Many People Are Healed
He touched her hand and the fever left her; and she got up and began waiting on Him.
16 T hat evening they brought to Jesus many people who had demons in them. The demons were put out when Jesus spoke to them. All the sick people were healed.
When evening came, they brought to Him many who were under the power of demons, and He drove out the spirits with a word and restored to health all who were sick.
17 I t happened as the early preacher Isaiah said it would happen. He said, “He took on Himself our sickness and carried away our diseases.” Testing Some Followers
And thus He fulfilled what was spoken by the prophet Isaiah, He Himself took '> in order to carry away] our weaknesses and infirmities and bore away our diseases.
18 J esus saw many people and told them to go to the other side of the lake.
Now Jesus, when He saw the great throngs around Him, gave orders to cross to the other side.
19 A teacher of the Law came to Jesus. He said, “Lord, I will follow You wherever You go.”
And a scribe came up and said to Him, Master, I will accompany You wherever You go.
20 J esus said to him, “Foxes have holes. Birds have nests. But the Son of Man has no place to lay His head.”
And Jesus replied to him, Foxes have holes and the birds of the air have lodging places, but the Son of Man has nowhere to lay His head.
21 A nother of His followers said to Him, “Lord, let me go first and bury my father.”
Another of the disciples said to Him, Lord, let me first go and bury '> care for till death] my father.
22 J esus said to him, “Follow Me. Let the people who are dead bury their own dead.” The Wind and Waves Obey Jesus
But Jesus said to him, Follow Me, and leave the dead '> in sin] to bury their own dead.
23 J esus got into a boat. His followers followed Him.
And after He got into the boat, His disciples followed Him.
24 A t once a bad storm came over the lake. The waves were covering the boat. Jesus was sleeping.
And suddenly, behold, there arose a violent storm on the sea, so that the boat was being covered up by the waves; but He was sleeping.
25 H is followers went to Him and called, “Help us, Lord, or we will die!”
And they went and awakened Him, saying, Lord, rescue and preserve us! We are perishing!
26 H e said to them, “Why are you afraid? You have so little faith!” Then He stood up. He spoke sharp words to the wind and the waves. Then the wind stopped blowing.
And He said to them, Why are you timid and afraid, O you of little faith? Then He got up and rebuked the winds and the sea, and there was a great and wonderful calm ( a perfect peaceableness).
27 T hen men were surprised and wondered about it. They said, “What kind of a man is He? Even the winds and the waves obey Him.” Demons Ask Jesus to Let Them Live in Pigs
And the men were stunned with bewildered wonder and marveled, saying, What kind of Man is this, that even the winds and the sea obey Him!
28 J esus came to the other side of the lake into the country of the Gadarenes. Two men came to Him from among the graves. They had demons in them and were very wild men. They were so bad that no one would go near them.
And when He arrived at the other side in the country of the Gadarenes, two men under the control of demons went to meet Him, coming out of the tombs, so fierce and savage that no one was able to pass that way.
29 T hey called out, saying, “What do You want of us, You Son of God? Have You come here to make us suffer before it is our time to suffer?”
And behold, they shrieked and screamed, What have You to do with us, Jesus, Son of God? Have You come to torment us before the appointed time?
30 A long way from there many pigs were eating.
Now at some distance from there a drove of many hogs was grazing.
31 T he demons begged Jesus, saying, “If You put us out, send us into the pigs.”
And the demons begged Him, If You drive us out, send us into the drove of hogs.
32 J esus said to the demons, “Go!” They came out of the men and went into the pigs. At once the pigs ran down the mountain side. They fell into the water and died.
And He said to them, Begone! So they came out and went into the hogs, and behold, the whole drove rushed down the steep bank into the sea and died in the water.
33 T he men who cared for the pigs ran fast into the city and told everything. They told what happened to the men who had the demons.
The herdsmen fled and went into the town and reported everything, including what had happened to the men under the power of demons.
34 E very person in the city came to meet Jesus. When they saw Jesus, they asked Him to leave their country.
And behold, the whole town went out to meet Jesus; and as soon as they saw Him, they begged Him to depart from their locality.
