1 N u te bucura Israele, nu te veseli, ca popoarele, pentrucă ai curvit, părăsind pe Domnul, pentru că ai iubit o plată necurată în toate ariile cu grîu!

Rejoice not, O Israel, with exultation as do the peoples, for you have played the harlot, forsaking your God. You have loved hire upon every threshing floor.

2 A ria şi teascul nu -i vor hrăni, şi mustul le va lipsi.

The threshing floor and the winevat shall not feed them, and the new wine shall fail them.

3 N u vor rămînea în ţara Domnului; ci Efraim se va întoarce în Egipt, şi vor mînca în Asiria mîncări necurate.

They shall not remain in the Lord’s land, but Ephraim shall return to Egypt and they shall eat unclean food in Assyria.

4 N u vor aduce Domnului vin ca jertfă de băutură: căci nu -I vor fi plăcute. Pînea lor le va fi ca o pîne de jale; toţi ceice vor mînca din ea, se vor face necuraţi; căci pînea lor va fi numai pentru ei, nu va intra în Casa Domnului!

They shall not pour out wine offerings to the Lord, neither shall they be pleasing to Him. Their sacrifices shall be to them as the bread of mourners; all who eat of them shall be defiled, for their bread shall be for their appetite; it shall not come into the house of the Lord.

5 C e veţi face în zilele de praznic, la sărbătorilor Domnului?

What will you do on the day of the appointed solemn assembly or festival and on the day of the feast of the Lord ?

6 C ăci iată că ei pleacă din pricina pustiirii; Egiptul îi va aduna, Moful le va da morminte; ce au mai scump, argintul lor, va fi prada mărăcinilor, şi vor creşte spinii în corturile lor.

For behold, they are gone away from devastation and destruction; Egypt shall gather them in; Memphis shall bury them. Their precious things of silver shall be in the possession of nettles; thorns shall be in their tents.

7 V in zilele pedepsei, vin zilele răsplătirii: Israel va vedea singur dacă proorocul este nebun, sau dacă omul însuflat aiurează. Şi aceasta din pricina mărimii nelegiurilor şi răzvrătirilor tale.

The days of visitation and punishment have come; the days of recompense have come; Israel shall know it. The prophet is a crazed fool and the man who is inspired is mad or a fanatic, because of the abundance of your iniquity and because the enmity, hostility, and persecution are great.

8 E fraim stă la pîndă împotriva Dumnezeului meu, proorocului i se întind laţuri de păsări pe toate căile lui, îl vrăjmăşesc în Casa Dumnezeului său.

Ephraim was a watchman with my God; but he, that prophet, has become a fowler’s snare in all his ways. There is enmity, hostility, and persecution in the house of his God.

9 S 'au afundat în stricăciune, ca în zilele Ghibei; Domnul Îşi va aduce aminte de nelegiuirea lor, le va pedepsi păcatele.

They have deeply corrupted themselves as in the days of Gibeah. The Lord will remember their iniquity; He will punish their sins.

10 A m găsit pe Israel ca pe nişte struguri în pustie, am văzut pe părinţii voştri ca pe cele dintîi roade ale unui smochin, în primăvară; dar ei s'au dus la Baal-Peor, s'au pus în slujba idolului scîrbos, şi au ajuns urîcioşi ca şi acela pe care îl iubeau.

I found Israel like grapes in the wilderness; I saw your fathers as the first ripe fruit on the fig tree in its first season, but they went to Baal-peor and consecrated themselves to that shameful thing, and they became detestable and loathsome like that which they loved.

11 S lava lui Efraim va sbura ca o pasăre: nu mai este nicio naştere, nicio însărcinare, şi nicio zămislire!

As for Ephraim, their glory shall fly away like a bird; there shall be no birth, no being with child, and no becoming pregnant.

12 C hiar dacă îşi vor creşte copiii, îi voi lipsi de ei înainte ca să ajungă oameni mari; şi vai de ei, cînd Îmi voi întoarce privirile dela ei!

Though they bring up their children, yet will I bereave them so that not a man shall be left; yes, woe also to them when I look away and depart from them!

13 E fraim, după cum văd, îşi dă copiii la pradă; şi Efraim îşi va duce singur copiii la celce -i va ucide! -

Ephraim, as I have seen with Tyre, is planted in a pleasant place, but Ephraim shall bring out his children to the slayer.

14 D ă-le, Doamne!... Ce să le dai?... Dă-le un pîntece, care să nască înainte de vreme şi ţîţe seci!...

Give them, O Lord! what will You give? Give them a miscarrying womb and dry breasts.

15 T oată răutatea lor este la Ghilgal; acolo M'am scîrbit de ei. Din pricina răutăţii faptelor lor, îi voi izgoni din Casa Mea. Nu -i mai pot iubi, toate căpeteniile lor sînt nişte îndărătnici.

All their wickedness is focused in Gilgal, for there I hated them; for the wickedness of their doings I will drive them out of My house; I will love them no more; all their princes are rebels.

16 E fraim este lovit, rădăcina i s'a uscat; nu mai dau rod; şi chiar dacă au copii, le voi omorî rodul iubit de ei. -

Ephraim is smitten, their root is dried up, they shall bear no fruit. Yes, though they bring forth, yet will I slay even their beloved children.

17 D umnezeul meu îi va lepăda, pentru că nu L-au ascultat: de aceea vor rătăci printre neamuri. -

My God will cast them away because they did not listen to and obey Him, and they shall be wanderers and fugitives among the nations.
