1 „ Nu te bucura, Israele, nu te veseli ca celelalte neamuri, căci te-ai prostituat, fiindu-I necredincios Dumnezeului tău, iubind plata de pe urma prostituţiei în toate ariile de treierat grânele.

Rejoice not, O Israel, with exultation as do the peoples, for you have played the harlot, forsaking your God. You have loved hire upon every threshing floor.

2 D ar nici aria de treierat, nici teascul de vin nu-i va hrăni, iar mustul le va lipsi.

The threshing floor and the winevat shall not feed them, and the new wine shall fail them.

3 N u vor rămâne în ţara Domnului; Efraim se va întoarce în Egipt şi va mânca lucruri necurate în Asiria.

They shall not remain in the Lord’s land, but Ephraim shall return to Egypt and they shall eat unclean food in Assyria.

4 N u-I vor aduce Domnului vin ca jertfă de băutură şi nici nu-L vor mulţumi cu jertfele lor. Acestea vor fi pentru ei ca pâinea de jale; toţi cei ce vor mânca din ea se vor întina. Căci pâinea lor va fi numai pentru ei; ea nu va intra în Casa Domnului.“

They shall not pour out wine offerings to the Lord, neither shall they be pleasing to Him. Their sacrifices shall be to them as the bread of mourners; all who eat of them shall be defiled, for their bread shall be for their appetite; it shall not come into the house of the Lord.

5 „ Ce veţi face voi în ziua de adunare, în ziua de sărbătoare a Domnului ?

What will you do on the day of the appointed solemn assembly or festival and on the day of the feast of the Lord ?

6 C ăci iată, chiar dacă vor scăpa de distrugere, Egiptul îi va strânge, iar Noful îi va înmormânta. Lucrurile lor preţioase de argint vor fi invadate de mărăcini, iar corturile lor – de spini.

For behold, they are gone away from devastation and destruction; Egypt shall gather them in; Memphis shall bury them. Their precious things of silver shall be in the possession of nettles; thorns shall be in their tents.

7 V in zilele pedepsei, sunt aproape zilele răsplăţii! Să ştie Israel lucrul acesta! Din pricina mulţimii fărădelegilor tale şi a mărimii duşmăniei tale, profetul este luat drept nebun, iar omul insuflat de Dumnezeu – considerat ieşit din minţi.

The days of visitation and punishment have come; the days of recompense have come; Israel shall know it. The prophet is a crazed fool and the man who is inspired is mad or a fanatic, because of the abundance of your iniquity and because the enmity, hostility, and persecution are great.

8 P rofetul este un străjer pentru Efraim, din partea Dumnezeului meu. Totuşi, pe toate căile lui, îi sunt întinse curse, iar în Casa Dumnezeului lui, are parte de duşmănie.

Ephraim was a watchman with my God; but he, that prophet, has become a fowler’s snare in all his ways. There is enmity, hostility, and persecution in the house of his God.

9 S -au adâncit în stricăciune ca pe vremea Ghivei. El Îşi va aduce aminte de fărădelegea lor şi îi va pedepsi pentru păcatele lor.

They have deeply corrupted themselves as in the days of Gibeah. The Lord will remember their iniquity; He will punish their sins.

10 P recum găsirea unor struguri în pustie a fost atunci când l-am găsit pe Israel; ca vederea primelor roade coapte dintr-un smochin a fost atunci când i-am văzut pe strămoşii voştri. Dar când au ajuns la Baal-Peor, s-au dedicat Ruşinii şi au ajuns o urâciune, la fel ca cel pe care-l iubeau.

I found Israel like grapes in the wilderness; I saw your fathers as the first ripe fruit on the fig tree in its first season, but they went to Baal-peor and consecrated themselves to that shameful thing, and they became detestable and loathsome like that which they loved.

11 G loria Efraimului va zbura ca o pasăre: nu va da naştere, nu va avea parte de sarcină şi nici de zămislire.

As for Ephraim, their glory shall fly away like a bird; there shall be no birth, no being with child, and no becoming pregnant.

12 C hiar dacă îşi cresc fiii acum, Eu îi voi lipsi de fiecare din ei. Căci va fi vai de ei când Îmi voi întoarce privirea de la ei!

Though they bring up their children, yet will I bereave them so that not a man shall be left; yes, woe also to them when I look away and depart from them!

13 Î l vedeam pe Efraim, asemenea Tirului, plantat într-un loc plăcut. Dar acum, Efraim îşi va aduce fiii înaintea ucigaşului.“

Ephraim, as I have seen with Tyre, is planted in a pleasant place, but Ephraim shall bring out his children to the slayer.

14 „ Dă-le, Doamne,... Ce să le dai? Dă-le pântece care să piardă copilul şi sâni fără lapte!“

Give them, O Lord! what will You give? Give them a miscarrying womb and dry breasts.

15 „ Toată răutatea lor este în Ghilgal; acolo am ajuns să-i urăsc. Din pricina răutăţii faptelor lor îi voi izgoni din casa Mea. Nu-i voi mai iubi; toţi conducătorii lor sunt nişte răzvrătiţi.

All their wickedness is focused in Gilgal, for there I hated them; for the wickedness of their doings I will drive them out of My house; I will love them no more; all their princes are rebels.

16 E fraim este lovit! Rădăcina le este uscată şi nu mai dau rod. Chiar dacă vor naşte, le voi ucide preaiubitele roade ale pântecelui lor.“

Ephraim is smitten, their root is dried up, they shall bear no fruit. Yes, though they bring forth, yet will I slay even their beloved children.

17 „ Dumnezeul meu îi va respinge, pentru că nu L-au ascultat şi vor ajunge nişte fugari printre neamuri.“

My God will cast them away because they did not listen to and obey Him, and they shall be wanderers and fugitives among the nations.
