1 C uvântul Domnului a venit la mine şi mi-a zis:

And the word of the Lord came to me, saying,

2 „ Du-te şi vesteşte în auzul locuitorilor Ierusalimului astfel: «Aşa vorbeşte Domnul: ‘Îmi amintesc de credincioşia tinereţii tale, cum, mireasă fiind, Mă iubeai şi Mă urmai prin pustie, pe un pământ nesemănat.

Go and cry in the ears of Jerusalem, saying, Thus says the Lord: I remember the kindness and devotion of your youth, your love after your betrothal and marriage when you followed Me in the wilderness, in a land not sown.

3 I srael era sfântul Domnului, primul rod al recoltei Lui; toţi cei ce mâncau din el se făceau vinovaţi şi nenorocirea venea peste ei, zice Domnul.’»“

Israel was holiness to the Lord, the firstfruits of His harvest; all who ate of it offended and became guilty; evil came upon them, says the Lord.

4 „ Ascultaţi Cuvântul Domnului, casă a lui Iacov, toate clanurile Casei lui Israel!

Hear the word of the Lord, O house of Jacob, and all the families of the house of Israel.

5 A şa vorbeşte Domnul: «Ce nedreptate au găsit strămoşii voştri în Mine de s-au depărtat de Mine? Ei s-au dus după nimicuri şi ei înşişi au devenit nimicuri.

Thus says the Lord: What unrighteousness did your fathers find in Me, that they went far from Me and went after emptiness, falseness, and futility and themselves became fruitless and worthless?

6 N u s-au întrebat: ‘Unde este Domnul, Care ne-a scos din ţara Egiptului şi ne-a condus prin pustie, printr-un pământ uscat şi plin de gropi, printr-un pământ al secetei şi al umbrei morţii, printr-un pământ pe unde nimeni nu trece şi unde nu locuieşte nici un om?’

Nor did they say, Where is the Lord, Who brought us up out of the land of Egypt, Who led us through the wilderness, through a land of deserts and pits, through a land of drought and of the shadow of death and deep darkness, through a land that no man passes through and where no man dwells?

7 V -am dus într-o ţară roditoare, ca să mâncaţi din rodul ei şi din bunătăţile ei, însă voi aţi venit şi Mi-aţi pângărit ţara, Mi-aţi prefăcut moştenirea într-o urâciune.

And I brought you into a plentiful land to enjoy its fruits and good things. But when you entered, you defiled My land and made My heritage an abomination.

8 P reoţii nu s-au întrebat: ‘Unde este Domnul ?’ Cei ce mânuiesc Legea nu M-au cunoscut; păstorii s-au răzvrătit împotriva Mea. Profeţii au profeţit prin Baal şi s-au dus după cei ce nu pot fi de nici un folos.

the priests did not say, Where is the Lord? And those who handle the law knew Me not. The rulers and secular shepherds also transgressed against Me, and the prophets prophesied by Baal and followed after things that do not profit.

9 D e aceea mă voi certa din nou cu voi, zice Domnul, şi mă voi certa şi cu copiii copiilor voştri.

Therefore I will still contend with you, says the Lord, and with your children’s children will I contend.

10 T receţi în ostroavele Chitim şi priviţi! Trimiteţi la Chedar şi luaţi aminte; vedeţi dacă acolo s-a întâmplat aşa ceva!

For cross over to the coasts of Cyprus and see, send also to Kedar and carefully consider; and see whether there has been such a thing as this:

11 Ş i-a schimbat vreun neam zeii, măcar că ei nu sunt Dumnezeu? Poporul Meu însă şi-a schimbat Slava cu ceva care nu-i este de nici un folos.

Has a nation changed its gods, even though they are not gods? But My people have changed their Glory for that which does not profit.

12 M iraţi-vă de aceasta, o, ceruri, înfioraţi-vă şi dezlănţuiţi-vă, zice Domnul,

Be astonished and appalled, O heavens, at this; be shocked and shrivel up with horror, says the Lord.

13 c ăci poporul Meu a săvârşit două rele: M-au părăsit pe Mine, Izvorul apelor vii, şi şi-au săpat puţuri, puţuri sparte, care nu pot ţine apă.

For My people have committed two evils: they have forsaken Me, the Fountain of living waters, and they have hewn for themselves cisterns, broken cisterns which cannot hold water.

14 E ste Israel un sclav din naştere? Atunci de ce a devenit pradă?

Is Israel a servant? Is he a homeborn slave? Why has he become a captive and a prey?

15 L eii răcnesc împotriva lui şi îşi ridică glasurile. Ei îi pustiesc ţara; cetăţile îi sunt arse şi fără locuitori.

The young lions have roared over him and made their voices heard. And they have made his land a waste; his cities are burned ruins without inhabitant.

16 C hiar şi cei din Nof şi Tahpanhes ţi-au zdrobit creştetul capului.

Moreover, the children of Memphis and Tahpanhes (Egypt) have broken and fed on the crown of your head —so do not rely on them as an ally now.

17 N u ţi-ai provocat tu singur lucrul acesta pentru că L-ai părăsit pe Domnul, Dumnezeul tău, când El te conducea pe cale?

Have you not brought this upon yourself by forsaking the Lord your God when He led you in the way?

18 Ş i acum, de ce te duci în Egipt să bei apă din Şihor ? De ce mergi în Asiria să bei apă din râu ?

And now what have you to gain by allying yourself with Egypt and going her way, to drink the waters of the Nile? Or what have you to gain in going the way of Assyria, to drink the waters of the Euphrates?

19 R ăutatea ta te va pedepsi; răzvrătirea ta te va mustra. Vei şti şi vei vedea astfel cât de rău şi de amar este pentru tine să-L părăseşti pe Domnul, Dumnezeul tău, şi să nu ai nici o frică de Mine, zice Stăpânul, Domnul Oştirilor.

Your own wickedness shall chasten and correct you, and your backslidings and desertion of faith shall reprove you. Know therefore and recognize that this is an evil and bitter thing: you have forsaken the Lord your God; you are indifferent to Me and the fear of Me is not in you, says the Lord of hosts.

20 D eşi, demult, ţi-am sfărâmat jugul şi ţi-am smuls legăturile, totuşi tu ai zis că nu-Mi vei mai sluji. Pe orice deal înalt şi sub orice copac verde te-ai întins ca o prostituată.

For long ago I broke your yoke and burst your bonds and long ago you shattered the yoke and snapped the bonds; you said, I will not serve and obey You! For upon every high hill and under every green tree you prostrated yourself, playing the harlot.

21 E u te sădisem ca o vie aleasă, de cel mai bun soi. Cum de te-ai schimbat şi ai devenit înaintea Mea o ramură sălbatică de viţă străină?

Yet I had planted you a choice vine, wholly of pure seed. How then have you turned into degenerate shoots of wild vine alien to Me?

22 C hiar dacă te-ai spăla cu sodă, chiar dacă te-ai da cu mult săpun, murdăria ta tot ar rămâne înaintea ochilor Mei, zice Stăpânul Domn.

For though you wash yourself with lye and use much soap, yet your iniquity and guilt are still spotted, dirty, and stained before Me, says the Lord.

23 C um poţi spune: ‘Nu m-am pângărit şi nu am alergat după baali!’? Priveşte-ţi urma paşilor în vale şi ia aminte la ce ai făcut. Eşti ca o dromaderă iute, ale cărei căi sunt întortocheate,

How can you say, I am not defiled; I have not gone after the Baals ? Look at your way in the valley; know what you have done. You are a restive young female camel running hither and thither,

24 c a o măgăriţă sălbatică, obişnuită cu pustiul, care gâfâie în aprinderea poftei ei! Cine o va împiedica să-şi satisfacă pofta? Cei ce o doresc nu se obosesc căutând-o, căci o găsesc la vremea împerecherii ei.

Or a wild donkey used to the desert, in her heat sniffing the wind. In her mating season who can restrain her? No males seeking her need weary themselves; in her month they will find her.

25 O preşte-te până când nu ajungi desculţă şi cu gâtul uscat! Dar tu zici: ‘În zadar! Eu iubesc dumnezeii străini şi vreau să merg după ei!’

Keep your feet from being unshod and your throat from thirst. But you said, It is hopeless! For I have loved strangers and foreigners, and after them I will go.

26 C um este dat de ruşine un hoţ când este prins, tot astfel este ruşinată Casa lui Israel – poporul, regii şi conducătorii lui, preoţii şi profeţii lui.

As the thief is brought to shame when he is caught, so shall the house of Israel be brought to shame—they, their kings, their princes, their priests, and their prophets—

27 E i zic lemnului: ‘Tu eşti tatăl nostru!’ şi pietrei: ‘Tu ne-ai dat naştere!’ Mi-au întors spatele şi nu se uită la Mine. Dar când sunt în nenorocire, ei zic: ‘Scoală-Te şi scapă-ne!’

they say to a tree, You are my father, and to a stone, You gave me birth. For they have turned their backs to Me and not their faces; but in the time of their trouble, they say, Arise and save us!

28 U nde sunt atunci zeii pe care vi i-aţi făcut? Să vină ei, dacă pot, şi să vă scape din nenorocire, căci Iudo, ai tot atâţia zei, câte cetăţi ai!

But where are your gods that you made for yourself? Let them arise if they can save you in the time of your trouble! For the number of your cities are your gods, O Judah.

29 D e ce vă certaţi cu Mine? Toţi v-aţi răzvrătit împotriva Mea, zice Domnul.

Why do you complain and remonstrate against My wrath? You all have rebelled and revolted against Me, says the Lord.

30 D egeaba v-am pedepsit copiii, căci tot n-au luat aminte la pedeapsă. Sabia voastră i-a mâncat pe profeţii voştri ca un leu distrugător.»

In vain have I stricken your children (your people); they received no discipline (no correction). Your own sword devoured your prophets like a destroying lion.

31 V oi, cei din generaţia aceasta, luaţi aminte la Cuvântul Domnului: «Am fost Eu o pustie pentru Israel sau un pământ plin de întuneric ? De ce spune poporul Meu: ‘Suntem liberi să rătăcim! Nu ne vom mai întoarce la Tine!’

O generation! Behold, consider, and regard the word of the Lord: Have I been a wilderness to Israel ? A land of deep darkness ? Why do My people say, We have broken loose; we will come no more to You?

32 Î şi uită o fecioară bijuteriile sau o mireasă podoabele de nuntă? Poporul Meu însă M-a uitat de zile fără număr.

Can a maid forget and neglect her ornaments, or a bride her girdle ? Yet My people have forgotten Me, days without number.

33 C e bine ştii să-ţi întocmeşti căile când cauţi ce iubeşti! Chiar şi pe femeile rele le înveţi căile tale!

How you deck yourself and direct your way to procure love! Because of it even wicked women have learned ways from you.

34 P e marginile hainelor tale se găseşte sânge de nevinovaţi, pe care nu i-ai prins dând vreo spargere. Dar în ciuda acestor lucruri

Also on your skirts is found the lifeblood of the persons of the innocent poor; you did not find them housebreaking, nor have I found it out by secret search. But it is because of all these things—

35 t u zici: ‘Sunt nevinovat! Cu siguranţă, mânia Lui s-a întors de la mine!’ Însă Eu te voi judeca pentru că zici: ‘Nu am păcătuit!’

Yet you keep saying, I am innocent; surely His anger has turned away from Me. Behold, I will bring you to judgment and will plead against you because you say, I have not sinned.

36 D e ce atâta grabă ca să-ţi schimbi drumul? Vei fi făcut de ruşine de către Egipt aşa cum ai fost făcut de ruşine şi de Asiria.

Why do you gad or wander about so much to change your way? You shall be put to shame by Egypt as you were put to shame by Assyria.

37 D e acolo vei ieşi cu mâinile pe cap, căci Domnul i-a lepădat pe cei în care te încrezi şi nu vei fi ajutat de ei.

From also you will come away with your hands upon your head, for the Lord has rejected those in whom you confide, and you will not prosper with them.
