1 T oţi cei din adunarea lor s-au ridicat şi L-au dus pe Isus la Pilat.

Then the whole assembly of them got up and conducted before Pilate.

2 E i au început să-L acuze zicând: „Pe Acesta L-am găsit pervertindu-ne neamul, interzicând a se da tribut Cezarului şi zicând despre Sine că este Cristos, un Împărat!“

And they began to accuse Him, asserting, We found this Man perverting (misleading, corrupting, and turning away) our nation and forbidding to pay tribute to Caesar, saying that He Himself is Christ (the Messiah, the Anointed One), a King!

3 P ilat L-a întrebat: – Eşti Tu Împăratul iudeilor? Isus i-a răspuns: – Este aşa cum spui.

So Pilate asked Him, Are You the King of the Jews? And He answered him, '> It is just as] you say.

4 P ilat le-a zis conducătorilor preoţilor şi mulţimilor: – Eu nu găsesc nimic vinovat în Omul Acesta!

And Pilate said to the chief priests and the throngs, I find no guilt or crime in this Man.

5 D ar ei au insistat şi au zis: – Întărâtă poporul, dând învăţătură prin toată Iudeea, din Galileea, de unde a început, şi până aici!

But they were urgent and emphatic, saying, He stirs up and excites the people, teaching throughout all Judea—from Galilee, where He began, even to this place.

6 C ând a auzit acest lucru, Pilat a întrebat dacă Omul este galileean

Upon hearing this, Pilate asked whether the Man was a Galilean.

7 ş i, aflând că este sub autoritatea lui Irod, L-a trimis la Irod, care se afla şi el în Ierusalim în zilele acelea.

And when he found out that He belonged to Herod’s jurisdiction, he sent Him up to Herod, who was also in Jerusalem in those days.

8 I rod s-a bucurat foarte mult când L-a văzut pe Isus, pentru că de multă vreme dorea să-L vadă, din pricina a ceea ce auzise despre El, şi spera să-L vadă înfăptuind vreun semn.

Now when Herod saw Jesus, he was exceedingly glad, for he had eagerly desired to see Him for a long time because of what he had heard concerning Him, and he was hoping to witness some sign (some striking evidence or spectacular performance) done by Him.

9 I -a pus multe întrebări, dar Isus nu i-a răspuns nimic.

So he asked Him many questions, but He made no reply.

10 C onducătorii preoţilor şi cărturarii stăteau acolo, acuzându-L cu vehemenţă.

Meanwhile, the chief priests and the scribes stood by, continuing vehemently and violently to accuse Him.

11 I rod împreună cu soldaţii lui L-au tratat cu dispreţ şi, după ce şi-au bătut joc de El, L-au îmbrăcat într-o haină strălucitoare şi L-au trimis înapoi la Pilat.

And Herod, with his soldiers, treated Him with contempt and scoffed at and ridiculed Him; then, dressing Him up in bright and gorgeous apparel, he sent Him back to Pilate.

12 Î n ziua aceea, Irod şi Pilat s-au împrietenit unul cu altul, căci înainte fuseseră în duşmănie unul faţă de celălalt.

And that very day Herod and Pilate became friends with each other— they had been at enmity before this.

13 P ilat i-a chemat laolaltă pe conducătorii preoţilor, pe conducători şi pe popor

Pilate then called together the chief priests and the rulers and the people,

14 ş i le-a zis: – Mi L-aţi adus pe Omul Acesta, ca pe Unul Care duce în rătăcire poporul. Şi iată că eu L-am cercetat înaintea voastră, dar n-am găsit în Omul Acesta nici un lucru de care să fie vinovat, aşa cum L-aţi acuzat voi.

And said to them, You brought this Man before me as One Who was perverting and misleading and turning away and corrupting the people; and behold, after examining Him before you, I have not found any offense (crime or guilt) in this Man in regard to your accusations against Him;

15 Ş i nici Irod nu L-a găsit vinovat, pentru că ni L-a trimis înapoi. Iată deci că n-a făcut nimic vrednic de moarte.

No, nor indeed did Herod, for he sent Him back to us; behold, He has done nothing deserving of death.

16 A şadar, după ce-L voi pedepsi, Îl voi elibera!

I will therefore chastise Him and deliver Him amended (reformed, taught His lesson) and release Him.

17 ( El trebuia să le elibereze pe cineva cu ocazia sărbătorii.)

For it was necessary for him to release to them one prisoner at the Feast.

18 Î nsă ei au strigat cu toţii: – La o parte cu Acesta! Eliberează-ni-l pe Baraba!

But they all together raised a deep cry, saying, Away with this Man! Release to us Barabbas!

19 A cesta fusese aruncat în închisoare pentru o răscoală care avusese loc în cetate şi pentru crimă.

He was a man who had been thrown into prison for raising a riot in the city, and for murder.

20 P ilat le-a vorbit din nou, vrând să-L elibereze pe Isus,

Once more Pilate called to them, wishing to release Jesus;

21 î nsă ei strigau: – Răstigneşte-L! Răstigneşte-L!

But they kept shouting out, Crucify, crucify Him!

22 E l le-a zis a treia oară: – Dar ce rău a făcut Acesta? Eu n-am găsit în El nici un lucru vrednic de moarte! Aşadar, după ce-L voi pedepsi, Îl voi elibera!

A third time he said to them, Why? What wrong has He done? I have found in Him nothing deserving of death; I will therefore chastise Him '> in order to teach Him better] and release Him.

23 D ar ei au continuat să strige tot mai tare şi să-i ceară să fie răstignit. Şi strigătele lor (şi ale conducătorilor preoţilor) au biruit.

But they were insistent and urgent, demanding with loud cries that He should be crucified. And their voices prevailed (accomplished their purpose).

24 P ilat a decis să li se îndeplinească cererea.

And Pilate gave sentence, that what they asked should be done.

25 L -a eliberat, aşa cum cereau ei, pe cel care fusese aruncat în închisoare pentru răscoală şi crimă, iar pe Isus L-a dat pe mâna lor, ca să-i facă după cum doresc. Răstignirea

So he released the man who had been thrown into prison for riot and murder, for whom they continued to ask, but Jesus he delivered up to be done with as they willed.

26 Î n timp ce-L duceau de-acolo, l-au apucat pe Simon, un om din Cirena, care venea de la câmp, şi i-au pus crucea în spinare ca s-o ducă după Isus.

And as they led Him away, they seized one Simon of Cyrene, who was coming in from the country, and laid on him the cross and made him carry it behind Jesus.

27 P e Isus Îl urma o mare mulţime de oameni, printre care şi nişte femei care se băteau în piept şi-L jeleau.

And there accompanied a great multitude of the people, women who bewailed and lamented Him.

28 D ar Isus S-a întors către ele şi le-a zis: „Fiice ale Ierusalimului, nu Mă plângeţi pe Mine, ci plângeţi-vă pe voi şi pe copiii voştri!

But Jesus, turning toward them, said, Daughters of Jerusalem, do not weep for Me, but weep for yourselves and for your children.

29 C ăci iată, vin zile în care se va spune: «Ferice de cele sterpe, de pântecele care n-au născut şi de sânii care n-au alăptat!»

For behold, the days are coming during which they will say, Blessed (happy, fortunate, and to be envied) are the barren, and the wombs that have not borne, and the breasts that have never nursed!

30 A tunci vor începe să zică munţilor: «Cădeţi peste noi!» şi dealurilor: «Acoperiţi-ne!»

Then they will begin to say to the mountains, Fall on us! and to the hills, Cover (conceal, hide) us!

31 C ăci dacă i se fac aceste lucruri copacului verde, ce se va întâmpla cu cel uscat?!“

For if they do these things when the timber is green, what will happen when it is dry?

32 A u fost aduşi şi doi răufăcători ca să fie executaţi împreună cu El.

Two others also, who were criminals, were led away to be executed with Him.

33 C ând au ajuns în locul numit „Craniul“, i-au răstignit acolo pe Isus şi pe răufăcători, unul la dreapta şi unul la stânga.

And when they came to the place which is called The Skull, there they crucified Him, and the criminals, one on the right and one on the left.

34 ( Isus zicea: „Tată, iartă-i, căci nu ştiu ce fac!“) Au tras la sorţi ca să-şi împartă hainele Lui între ei.

And Jesus prayed, Father, forgive them, for they know not what they do. And they divided His garments and distributed them by casting lots for them.

35 P oporul stătea acolo şi se uita. Conducătorii îşi băteau joc de El, zicând: „Pe alţii i-a salvat; să Se salveze şi pe Sine dacă este Cristosul lui Dumnezeu, Alesul!“

Now the people stood by '> calmly and leisurely] watching; but the rulers scoffed and sneered ( turned up their noses) at Him, saying, He rescued others '> from death]; let Him now rescue Himself, if He is the Christ (the Messiah) of God, His Chosen One!

36 S oldaţii, de asemenea, îşi băteau joc de El; ei veneau, Îi ofereau vin acru

The soldiers also ridiculed and made sport of Him, coming up and offering Him vinegar (a sour wine mixed with water)

37 ş i ziceau: „Dacă Tu eşti Împăratul iudeilor, salvează-Te pe Tine Însuţi!“

And saying, If you are the King of the Jews, save (rescue) Yourself '> from death].

38 D easupra Lui era o inscripţie (cu litere greceşti, latineşti şi aramaice): „Acesta este Împăratul iudeilor.“

For there was also an inscription above Him in letters of Greek and Latin and Hebrew: This is the King of the Jews.

39 U nul dintre răufăcătorii care fuseseră răstigniţi Îl insulta zicând: „Nu eşti Tu Cristosul? Salvează-Te pe Tine şi salvează-ne şi pe noi!“

One of the criminals who was suspended kept up a railing at Him, saying, Are You not the Christ (the Messiah)? Rescue Yourself and us '> from death]!

40 C elălalt însă l-a mustrat zicând: „Nu te temi de Dumnezeu, tu, care eşti sub aceeaşi sentinţă?

But the other one reproved him, saying, Do you not even fear God, seeing you yourself are under the same sentence of condemnation and suffering the same penalty?

41 P entru noi, într-adevăr, este drept, căci noi primim ceea ce merităm pentru ce-am săvârşit, dar Acesta n-a săvârşit nimic rău!“

And we indeed suffer it justly, receiving the due reward of our actions; but this Man has done nothing out of the way '> strange or eccentric or perverse or unreasonable].

42 A poi a zis: – Isuse, adu-Ţi aminte de mine când vii în Împărăţia Ta!

Then he said to Jesus, Lord, remember me when You come in Your kingly glory!

43 I sus i-a răspuns: – Adevărat îţi spun, astăzi vei fi cu Mine în Rai! Moartea lui Isus

And He answered him, Truly I tell you, today you shall be with Me in Paradise.

44 E ra deja cam pe la ceasul al şaselea. Şi s-a făcut întuneric peste toată ţara până pe la ceasul al nouălea.

It was now about the sixth hour (midday), and darkness enveloped the whole land and earth until the ninth hour (about three o’clock in the afternoon),

45 S oarele s-a întunecat, iar draperia Templului a fost despicată la mijloc.

While the sun’s light faded or was darkened; and the curtain of the temple was torn in two.

46 I sus a strigat cu glas tare: „Tată, în mâinile Tale Îmi încredinţez duhul!“ Şi spunând aceasta, Şi-a dat suflarea.

And Jesus, crying out with a loud voice, said, Father, into Your hands I commit My spirit! And with these words, He expired.

47 C ând centurionul a văzut ce se întâmplase, L-a slăvit pe Dumnezeu şi a zis: „Într-adevăr Omul Acesta era un Om drept!“

Now the centurion, having seen what had taken place, recognized God and thanked and praised Him, and said, Indeed, without question, this Man was upright (just and innocent)!

48 T oate mulţimile care se adunaseră în faţa acestei privelişti, văzând ce se întâmplă, s-au întors bătându-şi piepturile.

And all the throngs that had gathered to see this spectacle, when they saw what had taken place, returned to their homes, beating their breasts.

49 T oţi cunoscuţii Lui, inclusiv femeile care-L însoţiseră din Galileea, stăteau la distanţă şi se uitau la aceste lucruri. Înmormântarea lui Isus

And all the acquaintances of and the women who had followed Him from Galilee stood at a distance and watched these things.

50 Ş i iată că era un om pe nume Iosif, un sfetnic în Sinedriu, om bun şi drept,

Now notice, there was a man named Joseph from the Jewish town of Arimathea. He was a member of the council (the Sanhedrin), and a good (upright, advantageous) man, and righteous (in right standing with God and man),

51 c are nu fusese de acord cu planul şi acţiunea lor. Era din Arimateea, o cetate a iudeilor, şi aştepta şi el Împărăţia lui Dumnezeu.

Who had not agreed with or assented to the purpose and action of the others; and he was expecting and waiting for the kingdom of God.

52 A cesta a venit la Pilat şi i-a cerut trupul lui Isus.

This man went to Pilate and asked for the body of Jesus.

53 D upă ce I-a dat jos trupul, L-a înfăşurat într-o pânză de in şi L-a pus într-un mormânt săpat în stâncă, în care nu mai fusese pus nimeni.

Then he took it down and rolled it up in a linen cloth for swathing dead bodies and laid Him in a rock-hewn tomb, where no one had ever yet been laid.

54 E ra Ziua Pregătirii şi începea Sabatul.

It was the day of Preparation, and the Sabbath was dawning (approaching).

55 F emeile, cele care veniseră împreună cu El din Galileea, s-au luat după Iosif şi au văzut mormântul şi cum a fost pus trupul lui Isus.

The women who had come with from Galilee followed closely and saw the tomb and how His body was laid.

56 E le s-au întors şi au pregătit miresme şi uleiuri aromate. Apoi, în ziua de Sabat, s-au odihnit, potrivit poruncii.

Then they went back and made ready spices and ointments (perfumes). On the Sabbath day they rested in accordance with the commandment.
