1 A stfel, am hotărât să nu mai vin din nou la voi în durere,

But I definitely made up my mind not to grieve you with another painful and distressing visit.

2 p entru că, dacă eu vă întristez, atunci cine mă va mai încuraja pe mine, dacă nu cel pe care l-am întristat?

For if I cause you pain, who is there to provide me enjoyment but the one whom I have grieved and made sad?

3 A m scris aşa, pentru ca atunci când voi veni să nu fiu întristat de cei care ar trebui să mă bucure, căci sunt încredinţat cu privire la voi toţi că bucuria mea este bucuria voastră, a tuturor.

And I wrote the same to you so that when I came, I might not be myself pained by those who are the ones who ought to make me glad, for I trusted in you all and felt confident that my joy would be shared by all of you.

4 V -am scris din durerea şi din necazul inimii şi cu multe lacrimi, nu ca să vă întristez, ci ca să vă daţi seama de dragostea pe care o am din belşug faţă de voi. Iertarea celui păcătos

For I wrote you out of great sorrow and deep distress of heart, with many tears, not to cause you pain but in order to make you realize the overflowing love that I continue increasingly to have for you.

5 D acă cineva a fost o pricină de întristare, nu pe mine m-a întristat, ci, într-o oarecare măsură, ca să nu fiu prea sever, pe voi toţi.

But if someone has caused grief and pain, he has caused it not to me, but in some measure, not to put it too severely, all of you.

6 E ste suficient pentru acesta faptul că a fost pedepsit de cei mai mulţi dintre voi.

For such a one this censure by the majority sufficient.

7 A stfel, acum ar trebui să-l iertaţi şi să-l încurajaţi, ca să nu fie copleşit de prea multă întristare.

So you should rather turn and forgive and comfort and encourage, to keep him from being overwhelmed by excessive sorrow and despair.

8 D e aceea, vă îndemn să vă declaraţi iarăşi dragostea faţă de el.

I therefore beg you to reinstate him in your affections and assure him of your love for him;

9 C ăci v-am scris şi ca să vă pun la încercare şi să văd dacă sunteţi ascultători în toate.

For this was my purpose in writing you, to test your attitude and see if you would stand the test, whether you are obedient and altogether agreeable in everything.

10 P e cine iertaţi voi, îl iert şi eu. Ceea ce am iertat, dacă am iertat ceva, a fost de dragul vostru, în prezenţa lui Cristos,

If you forgive anyone anything, I too forgive that one; and what I have forgiven, if I have forgiven anything, has been for your sakes in the presence of Christ (the Messiah),

11 c a să nu dăm câştig de cauză lui Satan, pentru că noi nu suntem în necunoştinţă de planurile lui.

To keep Satan from getting the advantage over us; for we are not ignorant of his wiles and intentions.

12 C ând am venit la Troa pentru Evanghelia lui Cristos şi mi-a fost deschisă o uşă în Domnul,

Now when I arrived at Troas the good news (the Gospel) of Christ, a door of opportunity was opened for me in the Lord,

13 n -am avut linişte în duhul meu, pentru că nu l-am găsit acolo pe Titus, fratele meu. Astfel, mi-am luat rămas bun de la ei şi m-am dus în Macedonia. Lucrarea apostolică

Yet my spirit could not rest (relax, get relief) because I did not find my brother Titus there. So I took leave from them and departed for Macedonia.

14 Î i mulţumim însă lui Dumnezeu, Care ne conduce întotdeauna la biruinţă, în Cristos, şi răspândeşte prin noi în orice loc mireasma cunoaşterii Lui.

But thanks be to God, Who in Christ always leads us in triumph and through us spreads and makes evident the fragrance of the knowledge of God everywhere,

15 C ăci, pentru Dumnezeu, noi suntem mireasma lui Cristos printre cei ce sunt mântuiţi şi printre cei ce pier;

For we are the sweet fragrance of Christ unto God, among those who are being saved and among those who are perishing:

16 p entru aceştia – o mireasmă de la moarte spre moarte, iar pentru aceia – o mireasmă de la viaţă spre viaţă. Şi cine este destoinic pentru aceste lucruri?

To the latter it is an aroma from death to death; to the former it is an aroma from life to life. And who is qualified (fit and sufficient) for these things?

17 S pre deosebire de mulţi alţii, noi nu facem negustorie cu Cuvântul lui Dumnezeu, ci vorbim ca nişte oameni sinceri şi, ca unii trimişi de Dumnezeu, vorbim în prezenţa lui Dumnezeu, în Cristos.

For we are not, like so many, peddling God’s Word; but like of sincerity and the purest motive, as by God, we speak in Christ (the Messiah), in the sight and presence of God.
