Call now—is there any who will answer you? And to which of the holy will you turn?

2 M ânia omoară pe nebun, iar aprinderea ucide pe cel nesăbuit.

For vexation and rage kill the foolish man; jealousy and indignation slay the simple.

3 L -am văzut pe cel nebun prinzând rădăcini şi imediat i-am blestemat locuinţa.

I have seen the foolish taking root, but suddenly I saw that his dwelling was cursed.

4 C opiii săi sunt departe de a fi în siguranţă, sunt zdrobiţi la poartă şi nu e nimeni să-i scape.

His children are far from safety; they are crushed in the gate, and there is no one to deliver them.

5 C el flămând îi mănâncă secerişul, adunându-l chiar dintre spini, iar cel însetat râvneşte bogăţia lui.

His harvest the hungry eat and take it even among the thorns; the snare opens for wealth.

6 P entru că nenorocirea nu iese din ţărână şi necazul nu răsare din pământ.

For affliction comes not forth from the dust, neither does trouble spring forth out of the ground.

7 T otuşi omul e născut pentru necaz, după cum scânteia e născută pentru zbor.

But man is born to trouble as the sparks and the flames fly upward.

8 Î n ce mă priveşte, eu Îl voi căuta pe Dumnezeu şi lui Dumnezeu Îi voi spune starea mea.

As for me, I would seek God and inquire of and require Him, and to God would I commit my cause—

9 E l face lucruri mari şi nepătrunse, minuni fără număr.

Who does great things and unsearchable, marvelous things without number,

10 E l dă ploaie pe pământ şi trimite ape pe câmpie.

Who gives rain upon the earth and sends waters upon the fields,

11 Î i înalţă pe cei smeriţi şi celor în necaz le dă siguranţă.

So that He sets on high those who are lowly, and those who mourn He lifts to safety.

12 E l strică planurile celor vicleni şi astfel mâinile lor nu câştigă.

He frustrates the devices of the crafty, so that their hands cannot perform their enterprise or anything of worth.

13 E l îi prinde pe cei înţelepţi în viclenia lor, iar planurile celor înşelători sunt zădărnicite.

He catches the wise in their own trickiness, and the counsel of the schemers is brought to a quick end.

14 Z iua sunt în întuneric, iar la amiază bâjbâie ca în timpul nopţii.

In the daytime they meet in darkness, and at noon they grope as in the night.

15 Î l scapă pe nevoiaş de sabia gurii lor şi din mâna celor puternici.

But saves from the sword of their mouth, and the needy from the hand of the mighty.

16 A stfel cel sărac are nădejde, iar nedreptăţii i se închide gura.

So the poor have hope, and iniquity shuts her mouth.

17 F ericit e omul pe care-l mustră Dumnezeu; deci nu dispreţui disciplinarea Celui Atotputernic.

Happy and fortunate is the man whom God reproves; so do not despise or reject the correction of the Almighty.

18 E l răneşte, dar tot El leagă rana, El zdrobeşte, dar tot mâna Sa vindecă.

For He wounds, but He binds up; He smites, but His hands heal.

19 D in şase necazuri te va scăpa şi nici în al şaptelea nu te va atinge nici un rău.

He will rescue you in six troubles; in seven nothing that is evil will touch you.

20 T e va scăpa de la moarte în timp de foamete şi de lovitura sabiei în timp de război.

In famine He will redeem you from death, and in war from the power of the sword.

21 V ei fi adăpostit de biciul limbii şi nu te vei teme când va veni nenorocirea.

You shall be hidden from the scourge of the tongue, neither shall you be afraid of destruction when it comes.

22 V ei râde înaintea nenorocirii şi a foametei şi nu te vei teme de fiarele pământului.

At destruction and famine you shall laugh, neither shall you be afraid of the living creatures of the earth.

23 P entru că vei face legământ cu pietrele câmpului, şi fiarele câmpului vor fi în pace cu tine.

For you shall be in league with the stones of the field, and the beasts of the field shall be at peace with you.

24 Î ţi vei şti cortul în siguranţă şi când îţi vei căuta lucrurile nu vei găsi nimic lipsă.

And you shall know that your tent shall be in peace, and you shall visit your fold and your dwelling and miss nothing.

25 V ei şti că vei avea mulţi copii, şi urmaşii tăi vor fi ca iarba pământului.

You shall know also that your children shall be many, and your offspring as the grass of the earth.

26 V ei intra în mormânt încă în putere, ca un snop de grâu treierat la vremea lui.

You shall come to your grave in ripe old age, and as a shock of grain goes up in its season.

27 I ată că noi am cercetat aceasta şi aşa este! Ascultă şi ia aminte la aceasta spre folosul tău!“

This is what we have searched out; it is true. Hear and heed it and know for yourself.
