1 L uaţi seama să nu vă îndepliniţi dreptatea voastră înaintea oamenilor, ca să fiţi văzuţi de ei! Altminteri, nu veţi mai primi nicio răsplată de la Tatăl vostru, Care este în ceruri!

Take care not to do your good deeds publicly or before men, in order to be seen by them; otherwise you will have no reward '> reserved for and awaiting you] with and from your Father Who is in heaven.

2 A şa că, atunci când faci milostenie, nu suna din trâmbiţă înaintea ta, cum fac ipocriţii în sinagogi şi pe străzi, ca să fie slăviţi de oameni. Adevărat vă spun că şi-au primit răsplata!

Thus, whenever you give to the poor, do not blow a trumpet before you, as the hypocrites in the synagogues and in the streets like to do, that they may be recognized and honored and praised by men. Truly I tell you, they have their reward in full already.

3 T u însă când faci milostenie, să nu ştie stânga ta ce face dreapta,

But when you give to charity, do not let your left hand know what your right hand is doing,

4 p entru ca milostenia ta sa fie făcută în ascuns, iar Tatăl tău, Care vede în ascuns, îţi va răsplăti. Despre rugăciune

So that your deeds of charity may be in secret; and your Father Who sees in secret will reward you openly.

5 A tunci când vă rugaţi, să nu fiţi ca ipocriţii, căci lor le place să se roage stând în picioare în sinagogi şi la colţurile străzilor, ca să fie văzuţi de oameni. Adevărat vă spun că şi-au primit răsplata!

Also when you pray, you must not be like the hypocrites, for they love to pray standing in the synagogues and on the corners of the streets, that they may be seen by people. Truly I tell you, they have their reward in full already.

6 C i tu, când te rogi, intră în camera ta, încuie uşa după tine şi roagă-te Tatălui tău, Care este în ascuns, iar Tatăl tău, Care vede în ascuns, îţi va răsplăti.

But when you pray, go into your private room, and, closing the door, pray to your Father, Who is in secret; and your Father, Who sees in secret, will reward you in the open.

7 C ând vă rugaţi, să nu bolborosiţi aceleaşi cuvinte, cum fac neamurile care cred că, dacă spun multe cuvinte, vor fi ascultaţi.

And when you pray, do not heap up phrases (multiply words, repeating the same ones over and over) as the Gentiles do, for they think they will be heard for their much speaking.

8 V oi să nu fiţi ca ei, pentru că Tatăl vostru ştie de ce anume aveţi nevoie mai înainte ca voi să-I cereţi.

Do not be like them, for your Father knows what you need before you ask Him.

9 I ată deci cum trebuie să vă rugaţi: «Tatăl nostru, Care eşti în ceruri, sfinţească-se Numele Tău,

Pray, therefore, like this: Our Father Who is in heaven, hallowed (kept holy) be Your name.

10 v ie Împărăţia Ta, facă-se voia Ta, precum în cer, aşa şi pe pământ!

Your kingdom come, Your will be done on earth as it is in heaven.

11 P âinea noastră, cea de toate zilele, dă-ne-o nouă astăzi!

Give us this day our daily bread.

12 Ş i ne iartă nouă greşelile noastre, precum şi noi iertăm celor ce ne greşesc!

And forgive us our debts, as we also have forgiven ( left, remitted, and let go of the debts, and have given up resentment against) our debtors.

13 Ş i nu ne lăsa să cădem în ispită, ci izbăveşte-ne de cel rău! (Căci a Ta este Împărăţia şi puterea şi slava, în veci. Amin!) »

And lead (bring) us not into temptation, but deliver us from the evil one. For Yours is the kingdom and the power and the glory forever. Amen.

14 D acă le iertaţi oamenilor greşelile, şi Tatăl vostru cel ceresc vi le va ierta vouă,

For if you forgive people their trespasses '> reckless and willful sins, leaving them, letting them go, and giving up resentment], your heavenly Father will also forgive you.

15 d ar dacă nu-i iertaţi pe oameni, nici Tatăl vostru nu vă va ierta greşelile. Despre post

But if you do not forgive others their trespasses '> reckless and willful sins, leaving them, letting them go, and giving up resentment], neither will your Father forgive you your trespasses.

16 A tunci când postiţi, să nu afişaţi nişte feţe posomorâte ca ipocriţii care îşi urâţesc feţele, ca să le arate oamenilor că postesc. Adevărat vă spun că şi-au luat răsplata!

And whenever you are fasting, do not look gloomy and sour and dreary like the hypocrites, for they put on a dismal countenance, that their fasting may be apparent to and seen by men. Truly I say to you, they have their reward in full already.

17 C i tu, când posteşti, unge-ţi capul şi spală-ţi faţa,

But when you fast, perfume your head and wash your face,

18 c a să nu te arăţi oamenilor că posteşti, ci Tatălui tău, Care este în ascuns, iar Tatăl tău, Care vede în ascuns, îţi va răsplăti. Despre adevăratele comori

So that your fasting may not be noticed by men but by your Father, Who sees in secret; and your Father, Who sees in secret, will reward you in the open.

19 N u vă adunaţi comori pe pământ, unde le distrug moliile şi rugina şi unde le sapă şi le fură hoţii,

Do not gather and heap up and store up for yourselves treasures on earth, where moth and rust and worm consume and destroy, and where thieves break through and steal.

20 c i adunaţi-vă comori în cer, unde nu le distrug moliile şi rugina şi unde hoţii nu le sapă, nici nu le fură.

But gather and heap up and store for yourselves treasures in heaven, where neither moth nor rust nor worm consume and destroy, and where thieves do not break through and steal;

21 C ăci acolo unde este comoara ta, acolo va fi şi inima ta.

For where your treasure is, there will your heart be also.

22 O chiul este felinarul trupului. Dacă ochiul tău este sănătos, tot trupul tău va fi plin de lumină,

The eye is the lamp of the body. So if your eye is sound, your entire body will be full of light.

23 d ar dacă ochiul tău este rău, atunci tot trupul tău va fi plin de întuneric. Aşadar, dacă lumina care este în tine este întuneric, cât de mare trebuie să fie întunericul acesta!

But if your eye is unsound, your whole body will be full of darkness. If then the very light in you '> conscience] is darkened, how dense is that darkness!

24 N imeni nu poate sluji la doi stăpâni: căci ori îl va urî pe unul şi-l va iubi pe celălalt, ori îi va fi devotat unuia şi-l va dispreţui pe celălalt. Nu puteţi sluji şi lui Dumnezeu, şi lui Mamona. Despre îngrijorări

No one can serve two masters; for either he will hate the one and love the other, or he will stand by and be devoted to the one and despise and be against the other. You cannot serve God and mammon ( deceitful riches, money, possessions, or whatever is trusted in).

25 D e aceea vă spun: nu vă îngrijoraţi de viaţa voastră, gândindu-vă ce veţi mânca sau ce veţi bea, nici de trupul vostru, gândindu-vă cu ce vă veţi îmbrăca! Oare nu este viaţa mai mult decât hrana şi trupul mai mult decât îmbrăcămintea?

Therefore I tell you, stop being perpetually uneasy (anxious and worried) about your life, what you shall eat or what you shall drink; or about your body, what you shall put on. Is not life greater than food, and the body than clothing?

26 U itaţi-vă la păsările cerului: ele nici nu seamănă, nici nu seceră şi nici nu adună în hambare. Şi totuşi Tatăl vostru cel ceresc le hrăneşte. Oare nu sunteţi voi cu mult mai valoroşi decât ele?

Look at the birds of the air; they neither sow nor reap nor gather into barns, and yet your heavenly Father keeps feeding them. Are you not worth much more than they?

27 Ş i apoi, cine dintre voi, îngrijorându-se, poate să adauge măcar un cot la firul vieţii lui ?!

And who of you by worrying and being anxious can add one unit of measure (cubit) to his stature or to the span of his life?

28 Ş i de ce vă îngrijoraţi de îmbrăcăminte? Uitaţi-vă cu atenţie cum cresc crinii de pe câmp: ei nici nu trudesc din greu, nici nu torc.

And why should you be anxious about clothes? Consider the lilies of the field and learn thoroughly how they grow; they neither toil nor spin.

29 Ş i totuşi vă spun că nici chiar Solomon, în toată gloria lui, nu s-a îmbrăcat ca unul dintre ei!

Yet I tell you, even Solomon in all his magnificence (excellence, dignity, and grace) was not arrayed like one of these.

30 I ar dacă Dumnezeu îmbracă astfel iarba de pe câmp, care astăzi este, dar mâine va fi aruncată în cuptor, oare nu vă va îmbrăca El cu mult mai mult pe voi, puţin credincioşilor?!

But if God so clothes the grass of the field, which today is alive and green and tomorrow is tossed into the furnace, will He not much more surely clothe you, O you of little faith?

31 A şadar, să nu vă îngrijoraţi zicând: «Ce vom mânca?» sau «Ce vom bea?» sau «Cu ce ne vom îmbrăca?»,

Therefore do not worry and be anxious, saying, What are we going to have to eat? or, What are we going to have to drink? or, What are we going to have to wear?

32 c ăci toate aceste lucruri neamurile le caută! Tatăl vostru cel ceresc ştie că aveţi nevoie de toate acestea.

For the Gentiles (heathen) wish for and crave and diligently seek all these things, and your heavenly Father knows well that you need them all.

33 C ăutaţi mai întâi Împărăţia (lui Dumnezeu) şi dreptatea Lui, şi toate aceste lucruri vi se vor da pe deasupra.

But seek ( aim at and strive after) first of all His kingdom and His righteousness ( His way of doing and being right), and then all these things taken together will be given you besides.

34 N u vă îngrijoraţi deci de ziua de mâine, căci ziua de mâine se va îngrijora de ea însăşi. Îi este de ajuns zilei necazul ei.

So do not worry or be anxious about tomorrow, for tomorrow will have worries and anxieties of its own. Sufficient for each day is its own trouble.
