1 D e aceea, fiindcă n-am mai putut răbda, am hotărât să rămânem singuri în Atena

Therefore, when became intolerable, we consented to being left behind alone at Athens.

2 ş i l-am trimis pe Timotei, fratele nostru şi conlucrător cu noi pentru Dumnezeu, în răspândirea Evangheliei lui Cristos, ca să vă întărească şi să vă încurajeze în credinţa voastră,

And we sent Timothy, our brother and God’s servant in the good news (the Gospel) of Christ, to strengthen and establish and to exhort and comfort and encourage you in your faith,

3 p entru ca nimeni să nu se clatine în aceste necazuri. Căci ştiţi că la aceasta suntem destinaţi.

That no one should be disturbed and beguiled and led astray by these afflictions and difficulties. For you yourselves know that this is our appointed lot.

4 C ând eram la voi v-am spus dinainte că urmează să fim asupriţi, aşa cum s-a şi întâmplat, după cum bine ştiţi.

For even when we were with you, we warned you plainly beforehand that we were to be pressed with difficulties and made to suffer affliction, just as to your own knowledge it has happened.

5 D e aceea, când n-am mai putut răbda, l-am trimis ca să afle despre credinţa voastră, ca nu cumva ispititorul să vă fi ispitit, şi osteneala noastră să fi fost în zadar.

That is the reason that, when I could bear no longer, I sent that I might learn your faith, lest somehow the tempter had tempted you and our toil be fruitless and to no purpose.

6 Î nsă Timotei a venit chiar acum de la voi şi ne-a adus veşti bune despre credinţa şi dragostea voastră. Ne-a spus că întotdeauna vă amintiţi cu plăcere de noi şi că doriţi să ne vedeţi, aşa cum şi noi dorim să vă vedem.

But now that Timothy has just come back to us from you and has brought us the good news of your faith and love, and how kindly you cherish a constant and affectionate remembrance of us longing to see us as we you,

7 D e aceea, în toate strâmtorările şi necazurile noastre, am fost încurajaţi, fraţilor, cu privire la voi, datorită credinţei voastre.

Brethren, for this reason, in our stress and crushing difficulties we have been filled with comfort and cheer about you your faith ( the leaning of your whole personality on God in complete trust and confidence).

8 A cum trăim într-adevăr, fiindcă voi rămâneţi fermi în Domnul.

Because now we live, if you stand in the Lord.

9 C um putem să-I mulţumim îndeajuns lui Dumnezeu cu privire la voi pentru toată bucuria pe care o simţim datorită vouă, înaintea Dumnezeului nostru?

For what thanksgiving can we render to God for you for all the gladness and delight which we enjoy for your sakes before our God?

10 Z i şi noapte ne rugăm cu ardoare să vă putem vedea din nou şi să aducem ceea ce lipseşte credinţei voastre.

continue to pray especially and with most intense earnestness night and day that we may see you face to face and mend and make good whatever may be imperfect and lacking in your faith.

11 F ie ca Însuşi Dumnezeu, Tatăl nostru, şi Domnul nostru Isus să ne netezească calea spre voi!

Now may our God and Father Himself and our Lord Jesus Christ (the Messiah) guide our steps to you.

12 D omnul să facă să crească şi să se reverse dragostea voastră unii faţă de alţii şi faţă de toţi, aşa cum facem şi noi faţă de voi!

And may the Lord make you to increase and excel and overflow in love for one another and for all people, just as we also do for you,

13 E l să vă întărească inimile în sfinţenie, ca să fiţi fără pată înaintea lui Dumnezeu, Tatăl nostru, la venirea Domnului nostru Isus cu toţi sfinţii Lui!

So that He may strengthen and confirm and establish your hearts faultlessly pure and unblamable in holiness in the sight of our God and Father, at the coming of our Lord Jesus Christ (the Messiah) with all His saints (the holy and glorified people of God)! Amen, (so be it)!
