1 Т ому то, не стерпівши більше, ми схотіли зостатися в Атенах самі,

Therefore, when became intolerable, we consented to being left behind alone at Athens.

2 і послали Тимофія, нашого брата й служителя Божого в Христовій Євангелії, щоб упевнити вас та потішити в вашій вірі,

And we sent Timothy, our brother and God’s servant in the good news (the Gospel) of Christ, to strengthen and establish and to exhort and comfort and encourage you in your faith,

3 щ об ані один не хитався в цім горі. Самі бо ви знаєте, що на те нас призначено.

That no one should be disturbed and beguiled and led astray by these afflictions and difficulties. For you yourselves know that this is our appointed lot.

4 Б о коли ми були в вас, то казали вам наперед, що маємо страждати, як і сталось, і знаєте ви.

For even when we were with you, we warned you plainly beforehand that we were to be pressed with difficulties and made to suffer affliction, just as to your own knowledge it has happened.

5 Т ому й я, не стерпівши більше, послав довідатись про вашу віру, щоб часом спокусник вас не спокусив, і труд наш не стався б даремний.

That is the reason that, when I could bear no longer, I sent that I might learn your faith, lest somehow the tempter had tempted you and our toil be fruitless and to no purpose.

6 А тепер, як вернувся від вас Тимофій і приніс нам радісну звістку про віру та вашу любов, і що завжди ви маєте добру пам'ять про нас, і бажаєте бачити нас, як і ми вас,

But now that Timothy has just come back to us from you and has brought us the good news of your faith and love, and how kindly you cherish a constant and affectionate remembrance of us longing to see us as we you,

7 ч ерез те ми потішились, браття, за вас, у всякому горі та в нашій нужді, ради вашої віри.

Brethren, for this reason, in our stress and crushing difficulties we have been filled with comfort and cheer about you your faith ( the leaning of your whole personality on God in complete trust and confidence).

8 Б о тепер ми живемо, якщо в Господі ви стоїте!

Because now we live, if you stand in the Lord.

9 Я ку бо подяку ми можемо Богові дати за вас, за всю радість, що нею ми тішимося ради вас перед нашим Богом?

For what thanksgiving can we render to God for you for all the gladness and delight which we enjoy for your sakes before our God?

10 М и вдень та вночі ревно молимося, щоб побачити ваше лице та доповнити те, чого не вистачає вашій вірі.

continue to pray especially and with most intense earnestness night and day that we may see you face to face and mend and make good whatever may be imperfect and lacking in your faith.

11 С ам же Бог і Отець наш, і Господь наш Ісус нехай вирівняє нашу дорогу до вас!

Now may our God and Father Himself and our Lord Jesus Christ (the Messiah) guide our steps to you.

12 А в вас хай примножить Господь, і нехай збагатить вашу любов один до одного, і до всіх, як і наша є до вас!

And may the Lord make you to increase and excel and overflow in love for one another and for all people, just as we also do for you,

13 Н ехай Він зміцнить серця ваші невинними в святості перед Богом і нашим Отцем, при приході Господа нашого Ісуса з усіма святими Його!

So that He may strengthen and confirm and establish your hearts faultlessly pure and unblamable in holiness in the sight of our God and Father, at the coming of our Lord Jesus Christ (the Messiah) with all His saints (the holy and glorified people of God)! Amen, (so be it)!
