1 С ьомого місяця, двадцятого й першого дня місяця було слово Господнє через пророка Огія таке:

In the seventh month, on the twenty-first day of the month, in the second year of Darius king, came the word of the Lord by the prophet Haggai, saying,

2 С кажи но до Зоровавеля, сина Шалтіїлового, намісника Юдиного, і до Ісуса, сина Єгосадакового, великого священика, та до решти народу, говорячи.

Speak now to Zerubbabel son of Shealtiel, governor of Judah, and to Joshua son of Jehozadak, the high priest, and to the remainder of the people, saying,

3 Х то серед вас позостався, що бачив цей дім у першій його славі? А яким ви бачите його тепер? Чи ж не є він супроти того, як ніщо в ваших очах?

Who is left among you who saw this house in its former glory? And how do you see it now? Is not this in your sight as nothing in comparison to that?

4 А тепер будь мужній, Зоровавелю, говорить Господь, і зміцнися, Ісусе, сину Єгосадаків, священику великий, і зміцнися, ввесь народе землі, говорить Господь, і робіть, бо Я з вами, говорить Господь Саваот.

Yet now be strong, alert, and courageous, O Zerubbabel, says the Lord; be strong, alert, and courageous, O Joshua son of Jehozadak, the high priest; and be strong, alert, and courageous, all you people of the land, says the Lord, and work! For I am with you, says the Lord of hosts.

5 С лова, яким Я склав з вами заповіта, коли ви виходили з Єгипту, а дух Мій пробуває серед вас, не бійтеся!

According to the promise that I covenanted with you when you came out of Egypt, so My Spirit stands and abides in the midst of you; fear not.

6 Б о так промовляє Господь Саваот: Ще раз, а станеться це незабаром, і Я затрясу небо та землю, і море та суходіл!

For thus says the Lord of hosts: Yet once more, in a little while, I will shake and make tremble the heavens, the earth, the sea, and the dry land;

7 І затрясу всіма народами, і прийдуть коштовності всіх народів, і наповню цей дім славою, говорить Господь Саваот.

And I will shake all nations and the desire and the precious things of all nations shall come in, and I will fill this house with splendor, says the Lord of hosts.

8 М оє срібло й Моє золото, говорить Господь Саваот.

The silver is Mine and the gold is Mine, says the Lord of hosts.

9 Б ільша буде слава цього останнього дому від першого, говорить Господь Саваот, і на цьому місці Я дам мир, говорить Господь Саваот.

The latter glory of this house shall be greater than the former, says the Lord of hosts; and in this place will I give peace and prosperity, says the Lord of hosts.

10 Д вадцятого й четвертого дня, дев'ятого місяця, другого року Дарія було слово Господнє через пророка Огія таке:

On the twenty-fourth day of the ninth month, in the second year of Darius, came the word of the Lord by Haggai the prophet, saying,

11 Т ак говорить Господь Саваот: Запитай но священиків про Закона, говорячи:

Thus says the Lord of hosts: Ask now the priests to decide this question of law:

12 О сь несе хтось освячене м'ясо в полі своєї одежі, і доторкнеться полою своєю до хліба, чи до потрави, чи до вина, чи до оливи, чи до якої поживи, чи стане те освяченим? І священики відповіли та й сказали: Ні!

If one carries in the skirt of his garment flesh that is holy, and with his skirt or the flaps of his garment he touches bread, or pottage, or wine, or oil, or any kind of food, does what he touches become holy ? And the priests answered, No!

13 Т оді Огій сказав: Якщо б нечистий через мертвого доторкнувся до всього цього, чи стане воно нечистим? І відповіли священики та й сказали: Стане нечистим!

Then said Haggai, If one who is unclean because he has come in contact with a dead body should touch any of these articles of food, shall it be unclean? And the priests answered, It shall be unclean.

14 І відповів Огій та й сказав: Отакий народ цей, і такий цей люд перед Моїм лицем, говорить Господь, і такий усякий чин їхніх рук, і що вони складають там, нечисте воно!

Then answered Haggai, So is this people and so is this nation before Me, says the Lord; and so is every work of their hands, and what they offer there is unclean.

15 А тепер зверніть но своє серце на час від цього дня й далі, ще поки не був покладений камінь до каменя в Господньому храмі.

And now, I pray you, consider what will happen from this day onward. Since the time before a stone was laid upon a stone in the temple of the Lord, how have you fared?

16 В ідколи то було, що приходив бувало до копиці набирати двадцять мір, а було тільки десять, приходив до чавила набрати п'ятдесят мір, а було двадцять.

Through all that time when one has gone expecting to find a heap of twenty measures, there were but ten; when he has gone to the wine vat to draw out fifty bucketfuls from the press, there were only twenty.

17 Б ив Я вас посухою й зеленячкою та градом, усі чини ваших рук, та не кликали ви до Мене, говорить Господь.

I smote you with blight and with mildew and with hail in all the labors of your hands; yet you returned not nor were converted to Me, says the Lord.

18 З верніть ваші серця на час від цього дня й далі, від дня двадцятого й четвертого, дев'ятого місяця, від того дня, коли був заснований Господній храм, зверніть ваше серце на це.

Consider, I pray you, from this day onward, from the twenty-fourth day of the ninth month, even from the day that the foundation of the Lord’s temple was laid, consider this:

19 Ч и є ще насіння в коморі? Бо ще виноград, і фіґове дерево, і дерево гранатове, і дерево оливкове, ніщо не приносило плоду. Від цього дня Я поблагословлю їх.

Is the harvested grain any longer in the barn? As to the grapevine, the fig tree, the pomegranate, and the olive tree—they have not yet borne. From this day on I will bless you.

20 І було слово Господнє до Огія вдруге двадцятого й четвертого дня того ж місяця таке:

And again the word of the Lord came to Haggai on the twenty-fourth day of the month, saying,

21 С кажи Зоровавелю, намісникові Юдиному, говорячи: Я затрясу небо та землю,

Speak to Zerubbabel governor of Judah, saying, I will shake the heavens and the earth;

22 і поперевертаю трони царств, і повигублюю силу поганських царств, і поперевертаю колесниці та тих, хто їздить у них, і попадають коні та їхні верхівці, один мечем одного.

And I will overthrow the throne of kingdoms and I will destroy the strength of the kingdoms of the nations, and I will overthrow the chariots and those who ride in them, and the horses and their riders shall go down, every one by the sword of his brother.

23 Т ого дня, говорить Господь Саваот, візьму Я тебе, Зоровавелю, сину Шеалтіїлів, Мій рабе, говорить Господь, і покладу тебе, немов ту печатку, бо Я тебе вибрав, говорить Господь Саваот.

In that day, says the Lord of hosts, will I take you, O Zerubbabel, My servant, the son of Shealtiel, says the Lord, and will make you My signet ring; for I have chosen you, says the Lord of hosts.
