1 А коли Він скінчив усі слова Свої до народу, що слухав Його, то ввійшов у Капернаум.

After Jesus had finished all that He had to say in the hearing of the people, He entered Capernaum.

2 У одного ж сотника тяжко раб занедужав, що був дорогий йому, і вмирати вже мав.

Now a centurion had a bond servant who was held in honor and highly valued by him, who was sick and at the point of death.

3 А коли про Ісуса почув, то послав він до Нього юдейських старших, і благав Його, щоб прийшов, і вздоровив раба його.

And when the centurion heard of Jesus, he sent some Jewish elders to Him, requesting Him to come and make his bond servant well.

4 В они ж прибули до Ісуса, та й ревно благали Його й говорили: Він достойний, щоб Ти це зробив йому.

And when they reached Jesus, they begged Him earnestly, saying, He is worthy that You should do this for him,

5 Б о він любить народ наш, та й для нас синагогу поставив.

For he loves our nation and he built us our synagogue.

6 І пішов Ісус із ними. І коли недалеко від дому вже був, сотник друзів послав, щоб сказати Йому: Не турбуйся, о Господи, бо я недостойний, щоб зайшов Ти під стріху мою.

And Jesus went with them. But when He was not far from the house, the centurion sent friends to Him, saying, Lord, do not trouble, for I am not sufficiently worthy to have You come under my roof;

7 Т ому то й себе не вважав я за гідного, щоб до Тебе прийти. Та промов тільки слово, і раб мій одужає.

Neither did I consider myself worthy to come to You. But speak a word, and my servant boy will be healed.

8 Б о й я людина підвладна, і вояків під собою я маю; і одному кажу: піди, то йде він, а тому: прийди, і приходить, а своєму рабові: зроби теє і зробить.

For I also am a man subject to authority, with soldiers under me. And I say to one, Go, and he goes; and to another, Come, and he comes; and to my bond servant, Do this, and he does it.

9 П очувши ж таке, Ісус здивувався йому, і, звернувшись до натовпу, що йшов слідком за Ним, промовив: Кажу вам: навіть серед Ізраїля Я не знайшов був такої великої віри!

Now when Jesus heard this, He marveled at him, and He turned and said to the crowd that followed Him, I tell you, not even in Israel have I found such great faith.

10 А коли посланці повернулись додому, то знайшли, що одужав той раб!

And when the messengers who had been sent returned to the house, they found the bond servant who had been ill quite well again.

11 І сталось, наступного дня Він відправивсь у місто, що зветься Наїн, а з Ним ішли учні Його та багато народу.

Soon afterward, Jesus went to a town called Nain, and His disciples and a great throng accompanied Him.

12 І ось, як до брами міської наблизився Він, виносили вмерлого, одинака в своєї матері, що вдовою була. І з нею був натовп великий із міста.

as He drew near the gate of the town, behold, a man who had died was being carried out—the only son of his mother, and she was a widow; and a large gathering from the town was accompanying her.

13 Я к Господь же побачив її, то змилосердивсь над нею, і до неї промовив: Не плач!

And when the Lord saw her, He had compassion on her and said to her, Do not weep.

14 І Він підійшов, і доторкнувся до мар, носії ж зупинились. Тоді Він сказав: Юначе, кажу тобі: встань!

And He went forward and touched the funeral bier, and the pallbearers stood still. And He said, Young man, I say to you, arise '> from death]!

15 І мертвий устав, і почав говорити. І його Він віддав його матері.

And the man dead sat up and began to speak. And gave him to his mother.

16 А всіх острах пройняв, і Бога хвалили вони й говорили: Великий Пророк з'явився між нами, і зглянувся Бог над народом Своїм!

Profound and reverent fear seized them all, and they began to recognize God and praise and give thanks, saying, A great Prophet has appeared among us! And God has visited His people!

17 І розійшлася ця чутка про Нього по цілій Юдеї, і по всій тій країні.

And this report concerning spread through the whole of Judea and all the country round about.

18 П ро все ж те сповістили Івана учні його. І покликав Іван двох із учнів своїх,

And John’s disciples brought him word of all these things.

19 і послав їх до Господа з запитом: Чи Ти Той, Хто має прийти, чи чекати нам Іншого?

And John summoned to him a certain two of his disciples and sent them to the Lord, saying, Are You He Who is to come, or shall we look for another?

20 А мужі, прийшовши до Нього, сказали: Іван Христитель послав нас до Тебе, питаючи: Чи Ти Той, Хто має прийти, чи чекати нам Іншого?

So the men came to Jesus and said, John the Baptist sent us to You to ask, Are You the One Who is to come, or shall we look for another?

21 А саме тоді багатьох уздоровив був Він від недугів і мук, і від духів злих, і сліпим багатьом вернув зір.

In that very hour Jesus was healing many of sicknesses and distressing bodily plagues and evil spirits, and to many who were blind He gave '> a free, gracious, joy-giving gift of] sight.

22 І промовив Ісус їм у відповідь: Ідіть, і перекажіть Іванові, що ви бачили й чули: Сліпі прозрівають, криві ходять, очищуються слабі на проказу, і чують глухі, воскресають померлі, убогим звіщається Добра Новина.

So He replied to them, Go and tell John what you have seen and heard: the blind receive their sight, the lame walk, the lepers are cleansed, the deaf hear, the dead are raised up, and the poor have the good news (the Gospel) preached to them.

23 І блаженний, хто через Мене спокуси не матиме!

And blessed (happy— with life-joy and satisfaction in God’s favor and salvation, apart from outward conditions—and to be envied) is he who takes no offense in Me and who is not hurt or resentful or annoyed or repelled or made to stumble '> whatever may occur].

24 А коли відійшли посланці Іванові, Він почав говорити про Івана народові: На що ви дивитись ходили в пустиню? Чи на очерет, що вітер гойдає його?

And the messengers of John having departed, Jesus began to speak to the crowds about John: What did you go out into the desert to gaze on? A reed shaken and swayed by the wind?

25 Т а на що ви дивитись ходили? Може на чоловіка, у м'які шати одягненого? Аджеж ті, хто одягається славно, і розкішно живе, по палатах царських.

Then what did you go out to see? A man dressed up in soft garments? Behold, those who wear fine apparel and live in luxury are in the courts or palaces of kings.

26 Н а що ж ви ходили дивитись? На пророка? Так, кажу вам, навіть більше, аніж на пророка.

What then did you go out to see? A prophet (a forthteller)? Yes, I tell you, and far more than a prophet.

27 Ц е той, що про нього написано: Ось перед обличчя Твоє посилаю Свого посланця, який перед Тобою дорогу Твою приготує!

This is the one of whom it is written, Behold, I send My messenger before Your face, who shall make ready Your way before You.

28 К ажу вам: Між народженими від жінок нема більшого понад Івана. Та найменший у Божому Царстві той більший за нього.

I tell you, among those born of women there is no one greater than John; but he that is inferior in the kingdom of God is greater than he.

29 І всі люди, що слухали, і митники визнали Божу волю за слушну, і охристились Івановим хрищенням.

And all the people who heard Him, even the tax collectors, acknowledged the justice of God '> calling them to repentance and in pronouncing future wrath on the impenitent], being baptized with the baptism of John.

30 А фарисеї й законники відкинули Божу волю про себе, і не христились від нього.

But the Pharisees and the lawyers annulled and rejected and brought to nothing God’s purpose concerning themselves, by not being baptized by him.

31 І промовив Господь: До кого ж уподоблю людей цього роду? І до кого подібні вони?

So to what shall I compare the men of this generation? And what are they like?

32 П одібні вони до дітей, що на ринку сидять й один одного кличуть та кажуть: Ми вам грали були, а ви не танцювали, ми співали вам жалібно, та не плакали ви...

They are like little children sitting in the marketplace, calling to one another and saying, We piped to you, and you did not dance; we sang dirges and wailed, and you did not weep.

33 Б о прийшов Іван Христитель, що хліба не їсть і вина не п'є, а ви кажете: Має він демона.

For John the Baptist has come neither eating bread nor drinking wine, and you say, He has a demon.

34 П рийшов же Син Людський, що їсть і п'є, а ви кажете: Чоловік Цей ласун і п'яниця, Він приятель митників і грішників.

The Son of Man has come eating and drinking, and you say, Behold, a Man Who is a glutton and a wine drinker, a friend of tax collectors and notorious sinners.

35 І виправдалася мудрість усіма своїми ділами.

Yet wisdom is vindicated ( shown to be true and divine) by all her children '> by their life, character, and deeds].

36 А один із фарисеїв просив Його, щоб спожив Він із ним. І, прийшовши до дому того фарисея, Він сів при столі.

One of the Pharisees asked Jesus to dine with him, and He went into the Pharisee’s house and reclined at table.

37 І ось жінка одна, що була в місті, грішниця, як дізналась, що, Він у фарисеєвім домі засів при столі, алябастрову пляшечку мира принесла,

And behold, a woman of the town who was an especially wicked sinner, when she learned that He was reclining at table in the Pharisee’s house, brought an alabaster flask of ointment (perfume).

38 і , припавши до ніг Його ззаду, плачучи, почала обливати слізьми Йому ноги, і волоссям своїм витирала, ноги Йому цілувала та миром мастила...

And standing behind Him at His feet weeping, she began to wet His feet with tears; and she wiped them with the hair of her head and kissed His feet and anointed them with the ointment (perfume).

39 П обачивши це, фарисей, що покликав Його, міркував собі, кажучи: Коли б був Він пророк, Він би знав, хто ото й яка жінка до Нього торкається, бож то грішниця!

Now when the Pharisee who had invited Him saw it, he said to himself, If this Man were a prophet, He would surely know who and what sort of woman this is who is touching Him—for she is a notorious sinner (a social outcast, devoted to sin).

40 І озвався Ісус та й говорить до нього: Маю, Симоне, дещо сказати тобі. А той відказав: Кажи, Учителю.

And Jesus, replying, said to him, Simon, I have something to say to you. And he answered, Teacher, say it.

41 І промовив Ісус: Були два боржники в одного вірителя; один був винен п'ятсот динаріїв, а другий п'ятдесят.

A certain lender of money had two debtors: one owed him five hundred denarii, and the other fifty.

42 Я к вони ж не могли заплатити, простив він обом. Скажи ж, котрий із них більше полюбить його?

When they had no means of paying, he freely forgave them both. Now which of them will love him more?

43 В ідповів Симон, говорячи: Думаю, той, кому більше простив. І сказав Він йому: Розсудив ти правдиво.

Simon answered, The one, I take it, for whom he forgave and cancelled more. And Jesus said to him, You have decided correctly.

44 І , обернувшись до жінки, Він промовив до Симона: Чи ти бачиш цю жінку? Я прибув у твій дім, ти на ноги Мої не подав і води, а вона окропила слізьми Мої ноги й обтерла волоссям своїм.

Then turning toward the woman, He said to Simon, Do you see this woman? When I came into your house, you gave Me no water for My feet, but she has wet My feet with her tears and wiped them with her hair.

45 П оцілунку не дав ти Мені, а вона, відколи ввійшов Я, Мої ноги цілує невпинно.

You gave Me no kiss, but she from the moment I came in has not ceased '> intermittently] to kiss My feet tenderly and caressingly.

46 Г олови ти Моєї оливою не намастив, а вона миром ноги мої намастила...

You did not anoint My head with oil, but she has anointed My feet with perfume.

47 О сь тому говорю Я тобі: Численні гріхи її прощені, бо багато вона полюбила. Кому ж мало прощається, такий мало любить.

Therefore I tell you, her sins, many, are forgiven her—because she has loved much. But he who is forgiven little loves little.

48 А до неї промовив: Прощаються тобі гріхи!

And He said to her, Your sins are forgiven!

49 А ті, що сиділи з Ним при столі, почали гомоніти про себе: Хто ж це Такий, що прощає й гріхи?

Then those who were at table with Him began to say among themselves, Who is this Who even forgives sins?

50 А до жінки сказав Він: Твоя віра спасла тебе, іди з миром собі!

But Jesus said to the woman, Your faith has saved you; go (enter) into peace '> in freedom from all the distresses that are experienced as the result of sin].
