1 З а два ж дні була Пасха й Опрісноки. А первосвященики й книжники стали шукати, як би підступом взяти Його та забити.

It was now two days before the Passover and the Feast of Unleavened Bread, and the chief priests and the scribes were all the while seeking to arrest by secrecy and deceit and put to death,

2 В они говорили: Та не в свято, щоб бува колотнеча в народі не сталась.

For they kept saying, It must not be during the Feast, for fear that there might be a riot of the people.

3 К оли ж Ісус був у Віфанії, у домі Симона, на проказу слабого, і сидів при столі, підійшла одна жінка, алябастрову пляшечку маючи щирого нардового дуже цінного мира. І розбила вона алябастрову пляшечку, і вилила миро на голову Йому!

And while He was in Bethany, in the house of Simon the leper, as He was reclining, a woman came with an alabaster jar of ointment ( perfume) of pure nard, very costly and precious; and she broke the jar and poured over His head.

4 А дехто обурювались між собою й казали: Нащо таке марнотратство на миро?

But there were some who were moved with indignation and said to themselves, To what purpose was the ointment ( perfume) thus wasted?

5 Б о можна було б це миро продати більше, як за три сотні динаріїв, і вбогим роздати. І нарікали на неї.

For it was possible to have sold this for more than 300 denarii and to have given to the poor. And they censured and reproved her.

6 І сус же сказав: Залишіть її! Чого прикрість їй робите? Вона добрий учинок зробила Мені.

But Jesus said, Let her alone; why are you troubling her? She has done a good and beautiful thing to Me.

7 Б о вбогих ви маєте завжди з собою, і коли схочете, можете їм робити добро, Мене ж не постійно ви маєте.

For you always have the poor with you, and whenever you wish you can do good to them; but you will not always have Me.

8 Щ о могла, те зробила вона: заздалегідь намастила Моє тіло на похорон...

She has done what she could; she came beforehand to anoint My body for the burial.

9 П оправді кажу вам: де тільки ця Євангелія проповідувана буде в цілому світі, на пам'ятку їй буде сказане й те, що зробила вона!

And surely I tell you, wherever the good news (the Gospel) is proclaimed in the entire world, what she has done will be told in memory of her.

10 Ю да ж Іскаріотський, один із Дванадцятьох, подався до первосвящеників, щоб їм Його видати.

Then Judas Iscariot, who was one of the Twelve, went off to the chief priests in order to betray and hand Him over to them.

11 А вони, як почули, зраділи, і обіцяли йому срібняків за те дати. І він став вишукувати, як би слушного часу їм видати Його.

And when they heard it, they rejoiced and were delighted, and they promised to give him money. And he sought an opportunity to betray Him.

12 А першого дня Опрісноків, коли пасху приношено в жертву, сказали Йому Його учні: Куди хочеш, щоб пішли й приготували ми Тобі пасху спожити?

On the first day of Unleavened Bread, when they killed the Passover lamb, disciples said to Him, Where do You wish us to go prepare the Passover for You to eat?

13 І посилає Він двох із Своїх учнів, і каже до них: Підіть до міста, і стріне вас чоловік, що нестиме в глекові воду, то йдіть за ним.

And He sent two of His disciples and said to them, Go into the city, and a man carrying an jar or pitcher of water will meet you; follow him.

14 І там, куди він увійде, скажіть до господаря дому: Учитель питає: Де кімната Моя, в якій Я споживу зо Своїми учнями пасху?

And whatever he enters, say to the master of the house, The Teacher says: Where is My guest room, where I may eat the Passover with My disciples?

15 І він вам покаже великую горницю, вистелену та готову: там приготуйте для нас.

And he will show you a large upper room, furnished and ready; there prepare for us.

16 І учні пішли, і до міста прийшли, і знайшли, як Він їм сказав, і зачали вони пасху готувати.

Then the disciples set out and came to the city and found just as He had told them; and they prepared the Passover.

17 А коли настав вечір, Він приходить із Дванадцятьма.

And when it was evening, He came with the Twelve.

18 І як сиділи вони при столі й споживали, промовив Ісус: Поправді кажу вам, що один з-поміж вас, який споживає зо Мною, видасть Мене...

And while they were at the table eating, Jesus said, Surely I say to you, one of you will betray Me, who is eating with Me.

19 В они зачали сумувати, і один по одному питати Його: Чи не я?

And they began to show that they were sad and hurt, and to say to Him one after another, Is it I? or, It is not I, is it?

20 А Він їм сказав: Один із Дванадцятьох, що в миску мачає зо Мною...

He replied to them, It is one of the Twelve, one who is dipping into the dish with Me.

21 Л юдський Син справді йде, як про Нього написано; та горе тому чоловікові, що видасть він Людського Сина! Було б краще тому чоловікові, коли б він не родився!...

For the Son of Man is going as it stands written concerning Him; but woe to that man by whom the Son of Man is betrayed! It would have been good (profitable and wholesome) for that man if he had never been born.

22 Я к вони ж споживали, Ісус узяв хліб, і поблагословив, поламав, і дав їм, і сказав: Прийміть, споживайте, це тіло Моє!

And while they were eating, He took a loaf, praised God and gave thanks and asked Him to bless it to their use. He broke and gave to them and said, Take. Eat. This is My body.

23 І взяв Він чашу, і, вчинивши подяку, подав їм, і пили з неї всі.

He also took a cup, and when He had given thanks, He gave to them, and they all drank of it.

24 І промовив до них: Це кров Моя Нового Заповіту, що за багатьох проливається.

And He said to them, This is My blood the new covenant, which is being poured out for (on account of) many.

25 П оправді кажу вам, що віднині не питиму Я від плоду виноградного до того дня, як новим буду пити його в Царстві Божім!

Solemnly and surely I tell you, I shall not again drink of the fruit of the vine till that day when I drink it of a new and a higher quality in God’s kingdom.

26 А коли відспівали вони, на гору Оливну пішли.

And when they had sung a hymn, they went out to the Mount of Olives.

27 П ромовляє тоді їм Ісус: Усі ви спокуситесь ночі цієї, як написано: Уражу пастиря, і розпорошаться вівці!

And Jesus said to them, You will all fall away this night, for it stands written, I will strike the Shepherd, and the sheep will be scattered.

28 П о воскресенні ж Своїм Я вас випереджу в Галілеї.

But after I am raised, I will go before you into Galilee.

29 І відізвався до Нього Петро: Хоч спокусяться й усі, та не я!

But Peter said to Him, Even if they all fall away and are caused to stumble and distrust and desert You, yet I will not!

30 І сус же йому відказав: Поправді кажу тобі, що сьогодні, цієї ось ночі, перше ніж заспіває півень двічі, відречешся ти тричі від Мене!

And Jesus said to him, Truly I tell you, this very night, before a cock crows twice, you will utterly deny Me three times.

31 А він ще сильніш запевняв: Коли б мені й умерти з Тобою, я не відречуся Тебе! Так же само сказали й усі...

But said more vehemently and repeatedly, if it should be necessary for me to die with You, I will not deny or disown You! And they all kept saying the same thing.

32 І приходять вони до місцевости, на ім'я Гефсиманія, і каже Він учням Своїм: Посидьте ви тут, поки Я помолюся.

Then they went to a place called Gethsemane, and He said to His disciples, Sit down here while I pray.

33 І , взявши з Собою Петра, і Якова та Івана, Він зачав сумувати й тужити...

And He took with Him Peter and James and John, and began to be struck with terror and amazement and deeply troubled and depressed.

34 І сказав Він до них: Обгорнена сумом смертельним душа Моя! Залишіться тут і пильнуйте!

And He said to them, My soul is exceedingly sad (overwhelmed with grief) so that it almost kills Me! Remain here and keep awake and be watching.

35 І Він відійшов трохи далі, припав до землі, та й благав, щоб, як можна, минула Його ця година.

And going a little farther, He fell on the ground and kept praying that if it were possible the '> fatal] hour might pass from Him.

36 І благав Він: Авва-Отче, Тобі все можливе: пронеси мимо Мене цю чашу!... А проте, не чого хочу Я, але чого Ти...

And He was saying, Abba, Father, everything is possible for You. Take away this cup from Me; yet not what I will, but what You.

37 І вернувся, і знайшов їх, що спали, та й каже Петрові: Симоне, спиш ти? Однієї години не зміг попильнувати?

And He came back and found them sleeping, and He said to Peter, Simon, are you asleep? Have you not the strength to keep awake and watch one hour?

38 П ильнуйте й моліться, щоб не впасти в спокусу, бадьорий бо дух, але немічне тіло!

Keep awake and watch and pray, that you may not enter into temptation; the spirit indeed is willing, but the flesh is weak.

39 І знову пішов і молився, те саме промовивши слово.

He went away again and prayed, saying the same words.

40 А вернувшись, ізнову знайшов їх, що спали, бо зважніли їм очі були. І не знали вони, що Йому відказати...

And again He came back and found them sleeping, for their eyes were very heavy; and they did not know what answer to give Him.

41 І вернувсь Він утретє, та й каже до них: Ви ще далі спите й спочиваєте? Скінчено, надійшла та година: у руки грішникам ось видається Син Людський!...

And He came back a third time and said to them, Are you still sleeping and resting? It is enough! The hour has come. The Son of Man is betrayed into the hands of sinful men (men whose way or nature is to act in opposition to God).

42 У ставайте, ходім, ось наблизивсь Мій зрадник...

Get up, let us be going! See, My betrayer is at hand!

43 І зараз, як Він ще говорив, прийшов Юда, один із Дванадцятьох, а з ним люди з мечами та киями від первосвящеників, і книжників, і старших.

And at once, while He was still speaking, Judas came, one of the Twelve, and with him a crowd of men with swords and clubs, from the chief priests and the scribes and the elders.

44 А зрадник Його дав був знака їм, кажучи: Кого я поцілую, то Він, беріть Його, і обережно ведіть.

Now the betrayer had given them a signal, saying, The One I shall kiss is; seize Him and lead away safely.

45 І , прийшовши, підійшов він негайно та й каже: Учителю! І поцілував Його...

And when he came, he went up to Jesus immediately and said, Master! Master! and he embraced Him and kissed Him fervently.

46 В они ж руки свої наклали на Нього, і схопили Його.

And they threw their hands on Him and arrested Him.

47 А один із тих, що стояли навколо, меча вихопив та й рубонув раба первосвященика, і відтяв йому вухо.

But one of the bystanders drew his sword and struck the bond servant of the high priest and cut off his ear.

48 А Ісус їм промовив у відповідь: Немов на розбійника вийшли з мечами та киями, щоб узяти Мене.

And Jesus said to them, Have you come out with swords and clubs as against a robber to capture Me?

49 Я щодня був із вами у храмі, навчаючи, і Мене не взяли ви. Але, щоб збулися Писання.

I was with you daily in the temple '> porches and courts] teaching, and you did not seize Me; but that the Scriptures might be fulfilled.

50 Т оді всі полишили Його й повтікали...

Then, forsaking Him, fled, all.

51 О дин же юнак, по нагому загорнений у покривало, ішов услід за Ним. І хапають його.

And a young man was following Him, with nothing but a linen cloth ( sheet) thrown about naked; and they laid hold of him,

52 А ле він, покривало покинувши, утік нагий.

But, leaving behind the linen cloth ( sheet), he fled from them naked.

53 А Ісуса вони повели до первосвященика. І зійшлися всі первосвященики й старші та книжники.

And they led Jesus away to the high priest, and all the chief priests and the elders and the scribes were gathered together.

54 П етро ж здалека йшов услід за Ним до середини двору первосвященика; і сидів він із службою, і грівсь при огні.

And Peter followed Him at a distance, even right into the courtyard of the high priest. And he was sitting '> in the firelight] with the guards and warming himself at the fire.

55 А первосвященики та ввесь синедріон шукали посвідчення на Ісуса, щоб Йому заподіяти смерть, і не знаходили.

Now the chief priests and the entire council (the Sanhedrin) were constantly seeking testimony against Jesus with a view to condemning Him and putting Him to death, but they did not find any.

56 Б о багато-хто свідчив фальшиво на Нього, але не було згідних свідчень.

For many were repeatedly bearing false witness against Him, but their testimonies did not agree.

57 Т оді деякі встали, і кривосвідчили супроти Нього й казали:

And some stood up and were bearing false witness against Him, saying,

58 М и чули, як Він говорив: Я зруйную цей храм рукотворний, і за три дні збудую інший, нерукотворний.

We heard Him say, I will destroy this temple (sanctuary) which is made with hands, and in three days I will build another, made without hands.

59 А ле й так не було їхнє свідчення згідне.

Still not even did their testimony agree.

60 Т оді встав насередині первосвященик, та й Ісуса спитав і сказав: Ти нічого не відповідаєш, що свідчать вони проти Тебе?

And the high priest stood up in the midst and asked Jesus, Have You not even one answer to make? What these are testifying against You?

61 В ін же мовчав, і нічого не відповідав. Первосвященик ізнову спитав Його, до Нього говорячи: Чи Христос Ти, Син Благословенного?

But He kept still and did not answer at all. Again the high priest asked Him, Are You the Christ (the Messiah, the Anointed One), the Son of the Blessed?

62 А Ісус відказав: Я! І побачите ви Сина Людського, що сидітиме по правиці сили Божої, і на хмарах небесних приходитиме!

And Jesus said, I Am; and you will see the Son of Man seated at the right hand of Power ( the Almighty) and coming on the clouds of heaven.

63 Р оздер тоді первосвященик одежу свою та й сказав: На що нам ще свідки потрібні?

Then the high priest tore his garments and said, What need have we for more witnesses?

64 В и чули цю богозневагу. Як вам здається? Вони ж усі присудили, що Він умерти повинен...

You have heard His blasphemy. What is your decision? And they all condemned Him as being guilty and deserving of death.

65 Т оді деякі стали плювати на Нього, і закривати обличчя Йому, і бити Його та казати Йому: Пророкуй! Служба теж Його била по щоках...

And some of them began to spit on Him and to blindfold Him and to strike Him with their fists, saying to Him, Prophesy! And the guards received Him with blows and by slapping Him.

66 А коли Петро був на подвір'ї надолі, приходить одна із служниць первосвященика,

While Peter was down below in the courtyard, one of the maids of the high priest came;

67 і як Петра вона вгледіла, що грівся, подивилась на нього та й каже: І ти був із Ісусом Назарянином!

And when she saw Peter warming himself, she gazed intently at him and said, You were with Jesus of Nazareth too.

68 В ін же відрікся, говорячи: Не відаю, і не розумію, що кажеш... І вийшов назовні, на переддвір'я. І заспівав тоді півень.

But he denied it falsely and disowned Him, saying, I neither know nor understand what you say. Then he went outside into the vestibule. And a cock crowed.

69 С лужниця ж, коли його вгледіла, стала знов говорити приявним: Цей із них!

And the maidservant saw him, and began again to say to the bystanders, This is of them.

70 І він знову відрікся. Незабаром же знов говорили приявні Петрові: Поправді, ти з них, бо ти галілеянин. Та й мова твоя така сама.

But again he denied it falsely and disowned Him. And after a short while, again the bystanders said to Peter, Really, you are one of them, for you are a Galilean and your dialect shows it.

71 А він став клястись та божитись: Не знаю Цього Чоловіка, про Якого говорите ви!

Then he commenced invoking a curse on himself and swearing, I do not know the Man about Whom you are talking!

72 І заспівав півень хвилі тієї подруге. І згадав Петро слово, що Ісус був промовив йому: Перше ніж заспіває півень двічі, відречешся ти тричі від Мене. І кинувся він, та й плакати став...

And at once for the second time a cock crowed. And Peter remembered how Jesus said to him, Before a cock crows twice, you will utterly deny Me three times. And having put his thought upon it, he broke down and wept aloud and lamented.
