1 Д ля дириґетна хору. Псалом Давидів. (140-2) Визволь мене від людини лихої, о Господи, бережи мене від насильника,

Deliver me, O Lord, from evil men; preserve me from violent men;

2 ( 140-3) що в серці своїм замишляють злі речі, що війни щодня викликають!

They devise mischiefs in their heart; continually they gather together and stir up wars.

3 ( 140-4) Вони гострять свого язика, як той вуж, отрута гадюча під їхніми устами! Села.

They sharpen their tongues like a serpent’s; adders’ poison is under their lips. Selah!

4 ( 140-5) Пильнуй мене, Господи, від рук нечестивого, бережи мене від насильника, що задумали стопи мої захитати...

Keep me, O Lord, from the hands of the wicked; preserve me from the violent men who have purposed to thrust aside my steps.

5 ( 140-6) Чванливі сховали на мене тенета та шнури, розтягли свою сітку при стежці, сільця розмістили на мене! Села.

The proud have hidden a snare for me; they have spread cords as a net by the wayside, they have set traps for me. Selah!

6 ( 140-7) Я сказав Господеві: Ти Бог мій, почуй же, о Господи, голос благання мого!

I said to the Lord, You are my God; give ear to the voice of my supplications, O Lord.

7 ( 140-8) Господи, Владико мій, сило мого спасіння, що в день бою покрив мою голову,

O God the Lord, the Strength of my salvation, You have covered my head in the day of battle.

8 ( 140-9) не виконай, Господи, бажань безбожного, не здійсни його задуму! Села.

Grant not, O Lord, the desires of the wicked; further not their wicked plot and device, lest they exalt themselves. Selah!

9 ( 140-10) Бодай голови не піднесли всі ті, хто мене оточив, бодай зло їхніх уст їх покрило!

Those who are fencing me in raise their heads; may the mischief of their own lips and the very things they desire for me come upon them.

10 ( 140-11) Хай присок на них упаде, нехай кине Він їх до огню, до провалля, щоб не встали вони!...

Let burning coals fall upon them; let them be cast into the fire, into floods of water or deep water pits, from which they shall not rise.

11 ( 140-12) Злоязична людина щоб міцною вона не була на землі, людина насильства бодай лихо спіймало її, щоб попхнути на погибіль!

Let not a man of slanderous tongue be established in the earth; let evil hunt the violent man to overthrow him.

12 ( 140-13) Я знаю, що зробить Господь правосуддя убогому, присуд правдивий для бідних,

I know and rest in confidence upon it that the Lord will maintain the cause of the afflicted, and will secure justice for the poor and needy.

13 ( 140-14) тільки праведні дякувати будуть іменню Твоєму, невинні сидітимуть перед обличчям Твоїм!

Surely the righteous shall give thanks to Your name; the upright shall dwell in Your presence (before Your very face).
