The words of Lemuel king of Massa, which his mother taught him:

2 Щ о, сину мій, і що, сину утроби моєї, і що, сину обітниць моїх?

What, my son? What, son of my womb? What, son of my vows and dedication to God?

3 Н е давай жінкам сили своєї, ні доріг своїх для руйнувальниць царів!

Give not your strength to women, nor your ways to those who and that which ruin and destroy kings.

4 Н е царям, Лемуїле, вино, не царям, і напій той п'янкий не князям,

It is not for kings, O Lemuel, it is not for kings to drink wine, or for rulers to desire strong drink,

5 щ об не впився він та не забув про Закона, і щоб не змінив для всіх гноблених права!

Lest they drink and forget the law and what it decrees, and pervert the justice due any of the afflicted.

6 Д айте напою п'янкого тому, хто гине, а вина гіркодухим:

Give strong drink to him who is ready to pass away, and wine to him in bitter distress of heart.

7 в ін вип'є й забуде за бідність свою, і муки своєї вже не пам'ятатиме!

Let him drink and forget his poverty and remember his want and misery no more.

8 В ідкривай свої уста немові, для суда всім нещасним.

Open your mouth for the dumb, for the rights of all who are left desolate and defenseless;

9 В ідкривай свої уста, й суди справедливо, і правосуддя зроби для убогого та для нужденного.

Open your mouth, judge righteously, and administer justice for the poor and needy.

10 Х то жінку чеснотну знайде? а ціна її більша від перел:

A capable, intelligent, and virtuous woman—who is he who can find her? She is far more precious than jewels and her value is far above rubies or pearls.

11 д овіряє їй серце її чоловіка, і йому не забракне прибутку!

The heart of her husband trusts in her confidently and relies on and believes in her securely, so that he has no lack of gain or need of spoil.

12 В она чинить для нього добро, а не зло, по всі дні свого життя.

She comforts, encourages, and does him only good as long as there is life within her.

13 Ш укає вона вовни й льону, і робить охоче своїми руками.

She seeks out wool and flax and works with willing hands.

14 В она, немов кораблі ті купецькі, здалека спроваджує хліб свій.

She is like the merchant ships loaded with foodstuffs; she brings her household’s food from a far.

15 І встане вона ще вночі, і видасть для дому свого поживу, а порядок служницям своїм.

She rises while it is yet night and gets food for her household and assigns her maids their tasks.

16 П ро поле вона намишляла, і його набула, із плоду долоней своїх засадила вона виноградника.

She considers a field before she buys or accepts it; with her savings she plants fruitful vines in her vineyard.

17 В она підперізує силою стегна свої та зміцняє рамена свої.

She girds herself with strength and makes her arms strong and firm.

18 В она розуміє, що добра робота її, і світильник її не погасне вночі.

She tastes and sees that her gain from work is good; her lamp goes not out, but it burns on continually through the night.

19 В она руки свої простягає до прядки, а долоні її веретено тримають.

She lays her hands to the spindle, and her hands hold the distaff.

20 Д олоню свою відкриває для вбогого, а руки свої простягає до бідного.

She opens her hand to the poor, yes, she reaches out her filled hands to the needy.

21 Х олоду в домі своїм не боїться вона, бо подвійно одягнений ввесь її дім.

She fears not the snow for her family, for all her household are doubly clothed in scarlet.

22 К илими поробила собі, віссон та кармазин убрання її.

She makes for herself coverlets, cushions, and rugs of tapestry. Her clothing is of linen, pure and fine, and of purple.

23 Ч оловік її знаний при брамах, як сидить він із старшими краю.

Her husband is known in the gates, when he sits among the elders of the land.

24 Т онку туніку робить вона й продає, і купцеві дає пояси.

She makes fine linen garments and leads others to buy them; she delivers to the merchants girdles.

25 С ила та пишність одежа її, і сміється вона до прийдещнього дня.

Strength and dignity are her clothing and her position is strong and secure; she rejoices over the future!

26 С вої уста вона відкриває на мудрість, і милостива наука їй на язиці.

She opens her mouth in skillful and godly Wisdom, and on her tongue is the law of kindness.

27 Д оглядає вона ходи дому свого, і хліба з лінивства не їсть.

She looks well to how things go in her household, and the bread of idleness (gossip, discontent, and self-pity) she will not eat.

28 У стають її діти, і хвалять її, чоловік її й він похваляє її:

Her children rise up and call her blessed (happy, fortunate, and to be envied); and her husband boasts of and praises her,,

29 Б агато було тих чеснотних дочок, та ти їх усіх перевищила!

Many daughters have done virtuously, nobly, and well, but you excel them all.

30 К раса то омана, а врода марнота, жінка ж богобоязна вона буде хвалена!

Charm and grace are deceptive, and beauty is vain, but a woman who reverently and worshipfully fears the Lord, she shall be praised!

31 Д айте їй з плоду рук її, і нехай її вчинки її вихваляють при брамах!

Give her of the fruit of her hands, and let her own works praise her in the gates!
