The words of Lemuel king of Massa, which his mother taught him:

2 H ỡi con ta sẽ nói gì? Hỡi con của thai ta, ta phải nói chi? Hỡi con của sự khấn nguyện ta, ta nên nói điều gì với con?

What, my son? What, son of my womb? What, son of my vows and dedication to God?

3 C hớ phó sức lực con cho người đờn bà, Đừng ở theo con đường gây cho vua chúa bị bại hoại.

Give not your strength to women, nor your ways to those who and that which ruin and destroy kings.

4 H ỡi Lê-mu-ên, chẳng xứng hiệp cho các vua, Chẳng xứng hiệp cho các vua uống rượu, Hay là cho các quan trưởng nói rằng: Vật uống say ở đâu?

It is not for kings, O Lemuel, it is not for kings to drink wine, or for rulers to desire strong drink,

5 E chúng uống, quên luật pháp, Và làm hư sự xét đoán của người khốn khổ chăng.

Lest they drink and forget the law and what it decrees, and pervert the justice due any of the afflicted.

6 H ãy ban vật uống say cho người gần chết, Và rượu cho người có lòng bị cay đắng:

Give strong drink to him who is ready to pass away, and wine to him in bitter distress of heart.

7 H ọ hãy uống, và quên nỗi nghèo khổ mình, Chẳng nhớ đến điều cực nhọc của mình nữa.

Let him drink and forget his poverty and remember his want and misery no more.

8 H ãy mở miệng mình binh kẻ câm, Và duyên cớ của các người bị để bỏ.

Open your mouth for the dumb, for the rights of all who are left desolate and defenseless;

9 K há mở miệng con, xét đoán cách công bình, Và phân xử phải nghĩa cho người buồn thảm và nghèo nàn.

Open your mouth, judge righteously, and administer justice for the poor and needy.

10 M ột người nữ tài đức ai sẽ tìm được? Giá trị nàng trổi hơn châu ngọc.

A capable, intelligent, and virtuous woman—who is he who can find her? She is far more precious than jewels and her value is far above rubies or pearls.

11 L òng người chồng tin cậy nơi nàng, Người sẽ chẳng thiếu huê lợi.

The heart of her husband trusts in her confidently and relies on and believes in her securely, so that he has no lack of gain or need of spoil.

12 T rọn đời nàng làm cho chồng được ích lợi, Chớ chẳng hề sự tổn hại.

She comforts, encourages, and does him only good as long as there is life within her.

13 N àng lo tìm lông chiên và gai sợi, Lạc ý lấy tay mình mà làm công việc.

She seeks out wool and flax and works with willing hands.

14 N àng giống như các chiếc tàu buôn bán, Ở từ chỗ xa chở bánh mình về.

She is like the merchant ships loaded with foodstuffs; she brings her household’s food from a far.

15 N àng thức dậy khi trời còn tối, Phát vật thực cho người nhà mình, Và cắt công việc cho các tớ gái mình.

She rises while it is yet night and gets food for her household and assigns her maids their tasks.

16 N àng tưởng đến một đồng ruộng, bèn mua nó được; Nhờ hoa lợi của hai tay mình, nàng trồng một vườn nho.

She considers a field before she buys or accepts it; with her savings she plants fruitful vines in her vineyard.

17 N àng thắt lưng bằng sức lực, Và làm hai cánh tay mình ra mạnh mẽ.

She girds herself with strength and makes her arms strong and firm.

18 N àng cảm thấy công việc mình được ích lợi; Ban đêm đèn nàng chẳng tắt.

She tastes and sees that her gain from work is good; her lamp goes not out, but it burns on continually through the night.

19 N àng đặt tay vào con quay, Và các ngón tay nàng cầm con cúi.

She lays her hands to the spindle, and her hands hold the distaff.

She opens her hand to the poor, yes, she reaches out her filled hands to the needy.

She fears not the snow for her family, for all her household are doubly clothed in scarlet.

She makes for herself coverlets, cushions, and rugs of tapestry. Her clothing is of linen, pure and fine, and of purple.

Her husband is known in the gates, when he sits among the elders of the land.

She makes fine linen garments and leads others to buy them; she delivers to the merchants girdles.

Strength and dignity are her clothing and her position is strong and secure; she rejoices over the future!

She opens her mouth in skillful and godly Wisdom, and on her tongue is the law of kindness.

She looks well to how things go in her household, and the bread of idleness (gossip, discontent, and self-pity) she will not eat.

Her children rise up and call her blessed (happy, fortunate, and to be envied); and her husband boasts of and praises her,,

29 C ó nhiều người con gái làm lụng cách tài đức, Nhưng nàng trổi hơn hết thảy.

Many daughters have done virtuously, nobly, and well, but you excel them all.

30 D uyên là giả dối, sắc lại hư không; Nhưng người nữ nào kính sợ Đức Giê-hô-va sẽ được khen ngợi.

Charm and grace are deceptive, and beauty is vain, but a woman who reverently and worshipfully fears the Lord, she shall be praised!

31 H ãy ban cho nàng bông trái của tay nàng; Khá để các công việc nàng ngợi khen nàng tại trong cửa thành.

Give her of the fruit of her hands, and let her own works praise her in the gates!
