1 V ả, Ru-bên, con trưởng nam của Y-sơ-ra-ên, vì làm ô uế giường của cha mình, nên quyền trưởng tử đã về các con trai Giô-sép, là con trai Y-sơ-ra-ên; dầu vậy, trong gia phổ không chép Giô-sép là trưởng tử;

Now the sons of Reuben the firstborn of Israel. For was the eldest, but because he polluted his father’s couch his birthright was given to the sons of Joseph son of Israel; so the genealogy is not to be reckoned according to the birthright.

2 v ì Giu-đa trổi hơn anh em mình, và bởi người mà ra vua chúa; song quyền trưởng tử thì về Giô-sép.

Judah prevailed above his brethren, and from him came the prince and leader; yet the birthright was Joseph’s.

3 N ầy con trai của Ru-bên, con trưởng nam của Y-sơ-ra-ên, là Hê-nóc, Pha-lu, Hết-rôn, và Cạt-mi.

The sons of Reuben the firstborn of Israel: Hanoch, Pallu, Hezron, and Carmi.

4 C on trai của Giô-ên là Sê-ma-gia, con trai của Sê-ma-gia là Gót, con trai của Gót là Si-mê -i,

The sons of Joel: Shemaiah his son, Gog his son, Shimei his son,

5 c on trai của Si-mê -i là Mi-ca, con trai của Mi-ca là Rê -a-gia, con trai của Rê -a-gia là Ba-anh,

Micah his son, Reaiah his son, Baal his son,

6 c on trai của Ba-anh là Bê-ê-ra, bị Tiếc-lát-Phin-nê-se, vua nước A-si-ri, bắt làm phu tù; người vốn làm trưởng tộc trong chi phái Ru-bên.

7 A nh em của Bê-ê-ra theo họ hàng mình, y như đã chép vào sách gia phổ là, Giê -i-ên, trưởng tộc, Xa-cha-ri,

9 v ề phía đông người ở vào lối đồng vắng cho đến sông Ơ-phơ-rát, vì trong xứ Ga-la-át bầy súc vật chúng có sanh thêm nhiều lắm.

Eastward inhabited the land as far as the entrance into the desert this side of the river Euphrates, because their cattle had multiplied in the land of Gilead.

10 T rong đời vua Sau-lơ, chúng ra đánh giặc với dân Ha-ga-rít, thắng hơn họ, và ở trong trại họ tại khắp miền phía đông xứ Ga-la-át.

In the days of Saul they made war with the Hagrites or Ishmaelites, who fell by their hands; they dwelt in their tents in all the land east of Gilead.

11 C on cháu Gát ở đối ngang chúng nó trong xứ Ba-san, cho đến Sanh-ca.

The children of Gad who dwelt opposite them in the land of Bashan, as far as Salecah:

Their kinsmen of the houses of their fathers: Michael, Meshullam, Sheba, Jorai, Jacan, Zia, and Eber—seven in all.

They dwelt in Gilead, in Bashan and in its towns, and in all the suburbs and pasturelands of Sharon to their limits.

17 N hững kẻ nầy đã được biên vào sách gia phổ trong đời vua Giô-tham nước Giu-đa, và trong đời vua Giê-rô-bô-am nước Y-sơ-ra-ên.

All these were enrolled by genealogies in the days of Jotham king of Judah and in the days of Jeroboam king of Israel.

18 T rong con cháu Ru-bên, người Gát và phân nửa chi phái Ma-na-se, các người lính chiến có tài cầm khiên, cầm gươm, giương cung, và thạo về chinh chiến, là bốn vạn bốn ngàn bảy trăm sáu mươi người, có thể ra trận được.

The sons of Reuben, the Gadites, and the half-tribe of Manasseh—valiant men able to bear buckler and sword and to shoot with bow and skillful in war—were 44, 760 able and ready to go forth to war.

19 C húng giao chiến với dân Ha-ga-rít, dân Giê-tua, dân Na-phi, và dân Nô-đáp.

And made war with the Hagrites, Jetur, Naphish, and Nodab.

20 T rong khi giao chiến, chúng kêu cầu cùng Đức Chúa Trời, và Đức Chúa Trời vì chúng có lòng tin cậy Ngài, thì cứu giúp cho, phó dân Ha-ga-rít và cả những kẻ theo nó vào tay chúng.

They were given help against them, and the Hagrites or Ishmaelites were delivered into their hands, and all who were allied with them, for they cried to God in the battle; and He granted their entreaty, because they relied on, clung to, and trusted in Him.

21 C húng bắt được những bầy súc vật của các dân ấy, là năm vạn lạc đà, hai mươi lăm vạn chiên, hai ngàn lừa, và luôn mười vạn người.

And took away their adversaries’ herds: of their camels 50, 000, and of sheep 250, 000, and of donkeys 2, 000, and of the lives of men 100, 000.

22 C ũng có nhiều người bị chết, vì trận nầy bởi Đức Chúa Trời mà có. Chúng ở thay vào các dân tộc ấy cho đến khi bị bắt dẫn đi làm phu tù.

For a great number fell mortally wounded, because the battle was God’s. And dwelt in their territory until the captivity.

23 N gười nửa chi phái Mê-na-se ở trong xứ từ Ba-san cho đến Ba-anh-Hẹt-môn, Sê-nia, và núi Hẹt-môn; nhân số họ rất đông.

And the people of the half-tribe of Manasseh dwelt in the land; their settlements spread from Bashan to Baal-hermon, Senir, and Mount Hermon.

24 Đ ây là các trưởng tộc trong dòng dõi chúng: Ê-phe, Di-si, Ê-li-ên, A

And these were the heads of their fathers’ houses: Epher, Ishi, Eliel, Azriel, Jeremiah, Hodaviah, and Jahdiel, mighty men of strength of mind and spirit, famous men, and heads of the houses of their fathers.

25 S ong chúng phạm tội cùng Đức Chúa Trời của các tổ phụ mình, và thông dâm cùng những thần của các dân tộc của xứ mà Đức Chúa Trời đã hủy hoại trước mặt chúng.

They transgressed against the God of their fathers and played the harlot after the gods of the native peoples, whom God had destroyed before them.

26 Đ ức Chúa Trời của Y-sơ-ra-ên xui giục lòng Phun, vua nước A-si-ri, và Tiếc-lát-Phin-nê-se, cùng vua nước A-si-ri, đến bắt người Ru-bên, người Gát, và nửa chi phái Mê-na-se, đem chúng về ở Ha-la, Cha-bo, Ha-ra, và miền gần sông Gô-xan, là nơi chúng còn ở cho đến ngày nay.

So the God of Israel stirred up the spirit of Pul king of Assyria, the spirit of Tilgath-pilneser king of Assyria, and he carried them away, the Reubenites, Gadites, and half-tribe of Manasseh and brought them to Halah, Habor, Hara, and the river Gozan, to this day.
