1 V ậy, ai nấy hãy coi chúng tôi như đầy tớ của Đấng Christ, và kẻ quản trị những sự mầu nhiệm của Đức Chúa Trời.

So then, let us be looked upon as ministering servants of Christ and stewards (trustees) of the mysteries (the secret purposes) of God.

2 V ả lại, cái điều người ta trông mong nơi người quản trị là phải trung thành.

Moreover, it is required of stewards that a man should be found faithful.

3 V ề phần tôi, hoặc bị anh em xử đoán, hoặc bị tòa án nào của loài người xử đoán, tôi cũng chẳng lấy làm quan hệ gì. Chính tôi chẳng tự xử đoán mình nữa;

But it matters very little to me that I should be put on trial by you, and that you or any other human tribunal should investigate and question and cross-question me. I do not even put myself on trial and judge myself.

4 v ì tôi chẳng thấy mình có điều gì đáng tội, nhưng tôi cũng không nhờ sự đó mà được xưng là công bình: Đấng xử đoán tôi, ấy là Chúa.

I am not conscious of anything against myself, and I feel blameless; but I am not vindicated and acquitted before God on that account. It is the Lord Who examines and judges me.

5 V ậy, chớ xét đoán sớm quá, hãy đợi Chúa đến; chính Chúa sẽ tỏ những sự giấu trong nơi tối ra nơi sáng, và bày ra những sự toan định trong lòng người; bấy giờ, ai nấy sẽ bởi Đức Chúa Trời mà lãnh sự khen ngợi mình đáng lãnh.

So do not make any hasty or premature judgments before the time when the Lord comes, for He will both bring to light the secret things that are in darkness and disclose and expose the aims (motives and purposes) of hearts. Then every man will receive his commendation from God.

6 H ỡi anh em, ấy là vì cớ anh em, tôi đã dùng những lẽ thật, nầy chỉ về chính mình tôi và A-bô-lô, hầu cho anh em học đòi hai chúng tôi, chớ vượt qua lời đã chép, và chớ sanh lòng kiêu ngạo, theo phe người nầy nghịch cùng kẻ khác.

Now I have applied all this to myself and Apollos for your sakes, brethren, so that from what I have said of us, you may learn not to go beyond that which is written, that none of you may be puffed up and inflated with pride and boast in favor of one against another.

7 B ởi vì, ai phân biệt ngươi với người khác? Ngươi há có điều chi mà chẳng đã nhận lãnh sao? Nếu ngươi đã nhận lãnh, thì sao còn khoe mình như chẳng từng nhận lãnh?

For who separates you from the others ? What have you that was not given to you? If then you received it, why do you boast as if you had not received ?

8 A nh em được no đủ, được giàu có rồi, chẳng nhờ chúng tôi, anh em đã khởi sự cai trị; thật mong cho anh em được cai trị, hầu cho chúng tôi cũng cai trị với anh em!

'> You behave as if] you are already filled and think you have enough! Already you have become rich!, you have ascended your thrones and come into your kingdom without including us! And would that it were true and that you did reign, so that we might be sharing the kingdom with you!

9 V ì chưng Đức Chúa Trời dường đã phơi chúng tôi là các sứ đồ ra, giống như tù phải tội chết, làm trò cho thế gian, thiên sứ, loài người cùng xem vậy.

For it seems to me that God has made an exhibit of us apostles, exposing us to view last sentenced to death. For we have become a spectacle to the world with both men and angels.

10 C húng tôi là kẻ ngu dại vì cớ Đấng Christ, nhưng anh em được khôn ngoan trong Đấng Christ; chúng tôi yếu đuối, anh em mạnh mẽ; anh em quí trọng, chúng tôi khinh hèn.

We are fools on account of Christ and for His sake, but you are so amazingly wise and prudent in Christ! We are weak, but you are strong! You are highly esteemed, but we are in disrepute and contempt!

11 C ho đến bây giờ, chúng tôi vẫn chịu đói khát, trần mình, bị người ta vả trên mặt, lưu lạc rày đây mai đó.

To this hour we have gone both hungry and thirsty; we '> habitually] wear but one undergarment; we are roughly knocked about and wander around homeless.

12 C húng tôi dùng chính tay mình làm việc khó nhọc; khi bị rủa sả, chúng tôi chúc phước; khi bị bắt bớ, chúng tôi nhịn nhục;

And we still toil unto weariness, working hard with our own hands. When men revile us '> wound us with an accursed sting], we bless them. When we are persecuted, we take it patiently and endure it.

13 k hi bị vu oan, chúng tôi khuyên dỗ; chúng tôi giống như rác rến của thế gian, cặn bả của loài người, cho đến ngày nay.

When we are slandered and defamed, we answer softly and bring comfort. We have been made and are now the rubbish and filth of the world.

14 T ôi viết những điều nầy, chẳng phải để làm cho anh em hổ ngươi đâu; nhưng để khuyên bảo anh em, cũng như con cái yêu dấu của tôi vậy.

I do not write this to shame you, but to warn and counsel you as my beloved children.

15 B ởi chưng, dẫu anh em có một vạn thầy giáo trong Đấng Christ, nhưng chẳng có nhiều cha; vì tôi đã dùng Tin Lành mà sanh anh em ra trong Đức Chúa Jêsus Christ.

After all, though you should have ten thousand teachers (guides to direct you) in Christ, yet you do not have many fathers. For I became your father in Christ Jesus through the glad tidings (the Gospel).

16 V ậy, tôi lấy điều đó khuyên anh em: hãy bắt chước tôi.

So I urge and implore you, be imitators of me.

17 V ì cớ đó, tôi đã sai Ti-mô-thê, là con yêu dấu của tôi, cùng là trung thành trong Chúa, đến cùng anh em; người sẽ nhắc lại cho anh em biết đường lối tôi trong Đấng Christ, và tôi dạy dỗ cách nào trong các Hội thánh khắp các nơi.

For this very cause I sent to you Timothy, who is my beloved and trustworthy child in the Lord, who will recall to your minds my methods of proceeding and course of conduct and way of life in Christ, such as I teach everywhere in each of the churches.

18 C ó mấy kẻ lên mình kiêu ngạo, ngờ tôi chẳng còn đến cùng anh em nữa.

Some of you have become conceited and arrogant and pretentious, counting on my not coming to you.

19 N hưng nếu Chúa khứng cho, thì chẳng bao lâu tôi sẽ tới cùng anh em, và xét cho biết, chẳng phải xét lời nói của những kẻ kiêu ngạo đó, bèn là năng lực họ thể nào.

But I will come to you shortly, if the Lord is willing, and then I will perceive and understand not what the talk of these puffed up and arrogant spirits amount to, but their force ( the moral power and excellence of soul they really possess).

20 V ì nước Đức Chúa Trời chẳng ở tại lời nói, mà ở tại năng lực.

For the kingdom of God consists of and is based on not talk but power ( moral power and excellence of soul).

21 A nh em muốn điều gì hơn: muốn tôi cầm roi mà đến cùng anh em, hay là lấy tình yêu thương và ý nhu mì?

Now which do you prefer? Shall I come to you with a rod of correction, or with love and in a spirit of gentleness?
