1 T ừ nơi Đức Giê-hô-va, có lời phán cho Giê-rê-mi như vầy:

The word that came to Jeremiah from the Lord:

2 H ãy nghe những lời giao ước nầy, và bảo cho người Giu-đa và dân ở thành Giê-ru-sa-lem.

Hear the words of this covenant or solemn pledge, and speak to the men of Judah and the inhabitants of Jerusalem.

3 N gươi khá bảo chúng nó rằng: Giê-hô-va Đức Chúa Trời của Y-sơ-ra-ên phán như vầy: Đáng rủa thay là người không nghe lời giao ước nầy,

Say to them, Thus says the Lord, the God of Israel: Cursed is the man who does not heed the words of this covenant or solemn pledge

4 m à ta đã truyền cho tổ phụ các ngươi, trong ngày ta đem họ ra khỏi xứ Ê-díp-tô, khỏi lò nấu sắt, mà phán rằng: Hãy nghe tiếng ta, noi theo điều ta dạy mà làm. Vậy thì các ngươi sẽ làm dân ta, ta sẽ làm Đức Chúa Trời các ngươi;

Which I commanded your fathers at the time that I brought them out of the land of Egypt, from the iron furnace, saying, Listen to My voice and do according to all that I command you. So will you be My people, and I will be your God,

5 h ầu cho ta giữ lời thề ta đã thề cùng tổ phụ các ngươi, mà ban cho họ một xứ đượm sữa và mật, như xứ các ngươi thấy ngày nay. Tôi bèn thưa rằng: Hỡi Đức Giê-hô-va! A-men!

That I may perform the oath which I swore to your fathers, to give them a land flowing with milk and honey, as it is this day. Then I answered, Amen (so be it), O Lord.

6 Đ ức Giê-hô-va phán cùng tôi rằng: Hãy rao mọi lời nầy trong các thành của Giu-đa và trong các đường phố Giê-ru-sa-lem rằng: hãy nghe những lời giao ước nầy mà làm theo.

And the Lord said to me, Proclaim all these words in the cities of Judah and in the streets of Jerusalem: Hear the words of this covenant or solemn pledge and do them.

7 T a đã khuyên răn tổ phụ các ngươi từ ngày đem họ lên khỏi xứ Ê-díp-tô cho đến ngày nay. Ta dậy sớm mà khuyên răn họ rằng: Hãy vâng theo tiếng ta!

For I earnestly protested to and warned your fathers at the time that I brought them up out of the land of Egypt, even to this day, protesting to and warning them persistently, saying, Obey My voice.

8 N hưng họ không vâng lời, không để tai vào; họ theo sự cứng cỏi của lòng ác mình mà làm. Vì vậy ta đã làm cho họ mọi lời ngăm đe của giao ước nầy, là điều ta đã dặn họ làm theo mà họ không làm theo.

Yet they did not obey or incline their ear, but everyone walked in the stubbornness of his own evil heart. Therefore I brought upon them all the words of this covenant or solemn pledge, which I had commanded, but they did not do.

9 Đ ức Giê-hô-va phán cùng tôi rằng: Trong người Giu-đa và trong dân cư Giê-ru-sa-lem có kẻ đã lập mưu bạn nghịch.

And the Lord said to me, A conspiracy is found among the men of Judah and among the inhabitants of Jerusalem.

10 C húng nó quay về sự tội ác của tổ tiên mình, là kẻ đã chẳng khứng nghe lời ta, và theo các thần khác đặng hầu việc. Nhà Y-sơ-ra-ên với nhà Giu-đa đã phạm giao ước mà ta đã lập cùng tổ phụ chúng nó.

They have turned back to the iniquities of their forefathers, who refused to hear My words; they have gone after other gods to serve them. The house of Israel and the house of Judah have broken My covenant or solemn pledge which I made with their fathers.

11 V ậy nên, Đức Giê-hô-va phán như vầy: Nầy, ta sẽ khiến tai nạn đổ trên chúng nó, không thể tránh được; chúng nó sẽ kêu đến ta, những ta chẳng thèm nghe.

Therefore thus says the Lord: Behold, I am bringing evil and calamity upon them which they will not be able to escape; though they cry to Me, I will not listen to them.

12 B ấy giờ, các thành của Giu-đa và dân cư Giê-ru-sa-lem sẽ đi kêu cầu các thần mà mình vẫn dâng hương; nhưng các thần ấy sẽ không cứu chúng nó trong khi hoạn nạn đâu.

Then the cities of Judah and the inhabitants of Jerusalem will go and cry out to the gods to whom they offer incense, but they cannot save them at all in the time of their evil trouble.

13 H ỡi Giu-đa, ngươi có bao nhiêu thành, có bấy nhiêu thần; Giê-ru-sa-lem có bao nhiêu đường phố, các ngươi cũng lập bấy nhiêu bàn thờ cho vật xấu hổ, tức những bàn thờ đốt hương cho Ba-anh.

For the number of your cities are your gods, O Judah; and the number of the streets of Jerusalem are the altars you have set up to the shameful thing, even altars to burn incense to Baal.

14 V ậy ngươi chớ cầu thay cho dân nầy; chớ vì chúng nó lên tiếng kêu cầu; vì khi chúng nó nhơn cớ hoạn nạn mà kêu đến ta, ta chẳng thèm nghe.

Therefore do not pray for this people or lift up a cry or prayer for them, for I will not listen when they cry out to Me in the time of their evil trouble.

15 K ẻ yêu dấu của ta đã làm nhiều sự dâm loạn, và thịt thánh đã cất khỏi ngươi, còn đến trong nhà ta làm chi? mà ngươi còn lấy làm vui trong khi phạm tội.

What right has My beloved in My house when she has wrought lewdness and done treacherously many times? Can vows and the holy flesh remove from you your wickedness and avert your calamity? Can you by these rejoice exultantly?

16 X ưa Đức Giê-hô-va vốn xưng nó là cây ô-li-ve xanh, trái tươi tốt đáng ưa! Nay có tiếng lớn inh ỏi, Ngài đốt lửa nơi cây ấy, những nhánh nó bị gãy.

The Lord called a green olive tree, fair and of good fruit; but with the roar of a great tempest He will set fire to it, and its branches will be consumed.

17 Đ ức Giê-hô-va vạn quân, là Đấng đã vun trồng ngươi, nay đã phán định tai vạ nghịch cùng ngươi, vì cớ sự gian ác mà nhà Y-sơ-ra-ên và nhà Giu-đa đã làm cho mình khi chọc giận ta bởi họ dâng hương cho Ba-anh.

For the Lord of hosts, Who planted you, has pronounced evil and calamity against you because of the evil which the house of Israel and the house of Judah have done against themselves in provoking Me to anger by offering incense to Baal.

18 Đ ức Giê-hô-va đã cho tôi biết sự ấy, và tôi biết rồi: thì Ngài đã tỏ ra cho tôi việc làm của chúng nó.

And the Lord gave me knowledge of it, and I knew it; then You showed me their doings.

19 C òn tôi, như chiên con dễ biểu bị dắt đến chỗ giết, tôi chẳng biết họ mưu toan nghịch cùng tôi, mà rằng: Hãy diệt cả cây và trái, dứt khỏi đất người sống, hầu cho danh nó chẳng được nhớ đến nữa.

But I was like a tame lamb that is brought to the slaughter; I did not know that they had devised inventions and schemes against me, saying, Let us destroy the tree with its fruit; let us cut him off from the land of the living, that his name may be no more remembered.

20 H ỡi Đức Giê-hô-va vạn quân! Ngài đoán xét cách công bình, dò xét lòng và trí, tôi sẽ thấy sự Ngài báo thù họ, vì tôi đã tỏ việc tôi cùng Ngài.

But, O Lord of hosts, Who judges rightly and justly, Who tests the heart and the mind, let me see Your vengeance on them, for to You I have revealed and committed my cause.

21 V ậy nên Đức Giê-hô-va phán như vầy về người A-na-tốt, là kẻ đòi mạng sống ngươi, mà rằng: Nếu ngươi không muốn chết về tay ta, thì chớ nhơn danh Đức Giê-hô-va mà nói tiên tri!

Therefore thus says the Lord about the men of Anathoth, who seek your life and say, Prophesy not in the name of the Lord, that you die not by our hands—

22 V ậy, Đức Giê-hô-va vạn quân phán như vầy: Nầy, ta sẽ phạt chúng nó; những người trai tráng sẽ chết bởi gươm dao, những con trai con gái nó sẽ chết bởi đói kém;

Therefore thus says the Lord of hosts: Behold, I will punish them. Their young men will die by the sword, their sons and their daughters will die by famine;

23 s ẽ không có dân sót cho chúng nó; vì đến năm thăm phạt, ta sẽ giáng tai vạ trên người nam của A-na-tốt.

And there will be no remnant left, for I will bring evil and calamity upon the men of Anathoth in the year of their punishment.
