1 H ỡi con, chớ quên sự khuyên dạy ta, Lòng con khá giữ các mạng lịnh ta;

My son, forget not my law or teaching, but let your heart keep my commandments;

2 V ì nó sẽ thêm cho con lâu ngày, Số năm mạng sống, và sự bình an.

For length of days and years of a life and tranquility, these shall they add to you.

3 S ự nhơn từ và sự chơn thật, chớ để lìa bỏ con; Hãy đeo nó vào cổ, ghi nó nơi bia lòng con;

Let not mercy and kindness and truth forsake you; bind them about your neck, write them upon the tablet of your heart.

4 N hư vậy, trước mặt Đức Chúa Trời và loài người Con sẽ được ơn và có sự khôn ngoan thật.

So shall you find favor, good understanding, and high esteem in the sight of God and man.

5 H ãy hết lòng tin cậy Đức Giê-hô-va, Chớ nương cậy nơi sự thông sáng của con;

Lean on, trust in, and be confident in the Lord with all your heart and mind and do not rely on your own insight or understanding.

6 P hàm trong các việc làm của con, khá nhận biết Ngài, Thì Ngài sẽ chỉ dẫn các nẻo của con.

In all your ways know, recognize, and acknowledge Him, and He will direct and make straight and plain your paths.

7 C hớ khôn ngoan theo mắt mình; Hãy kính sợ Đức Giê-hô-va, và lìa khỏi sự ác:

Be not wise in your own eyes; reverently fear and worship the Lord and turn away from evil.

8 N hư vậy, cuống rốn con sẽ được mạnh khỏe, Và xương cốt con được mát mẻ.

It shall be health to your nerves and sinews, and marrow and moistening to your bones.

9 H ãy lấy tài vật và huê lợi đầu mùa của con, Mà tôn vinh Đức Giê-hô-va;

Honor the Lord with your capital and sufficiency and with the firstfruits of all your income;

10 V ậy, các vựa lẫm con sẽ đầy dư dật, Và những thùng của con sẽ tràn rượu mới.

So shall your storage places be filled with plenty, and your vats shall be overflowing with new wine.

11 H ỡi con, chớ khinh điều sửa phạt của Đức Giê-hô-va, Chớ hiềm lòng khi Ngài quở trách;

My son, do not despise or shrink from the chastening of the Lord; neither be weary of or impatient about or loathe or abhor His reproof,

12 V ì Đức Giê-hô-va yêu thương ai thì trách phạt nấy. Như một người cha đối cùng con trai yêu dấu mình.

For whom the Lord loves He corrects, even as a father corrects the son in whom he delights.

13 N gười nào tìm đặng sự khôn ngoan, Và được sự thông sáng, có phước thay!

Happy (blessed, fortunate, enviable) is the man who finds skillful and godly Wisdom, and the man who gets understanding,

14 V ì thà được nó hơn là được tiền bạc, Hoa lợi nó sanh ra tốt hơn vàng ròng.

For the gaining of it is better than the gaining of silver, and the profit of it better than fine gold.

15 S ự khôn ngoan quí báu hơn châu ngọc, Chẳng một bửu vật nào con ưa thích mà sánh kịp nó được.

Skillful and godly Wisdom is more precious than rubies; and nothing you can wish for is to be compared to her.

16 T ay hữu nó cầm sự trường thọ, Còn trong tay tả, có sự giàu có và vinh hiển.

Length of days is in her right hand, and in her left hand are riches and honor.

17 C ác nẻo nó vốn là nẻo khoái lạc, Và các lối nó cả điều bình an.

Her ways are highways of pleasantness, and all her paths are peace.

18 N ó là cây sự sống cho ai nắm lấy nó; Người nào cầm giữ nó đều được phước hạnh.

She is a tree of life to those who lay hold on her; and happy (blessed, fortunate, to be envied) is everyone who holds her fast.

19 Đ ức Giê-hô-va dùng sự khôn ngoan lập nên trái đất; Nhờ sự thông sáng mà sắp đặt các từng trời.

The Lord by skillful and godly Wisdom has founded the earth; by understanding He has established the heavens.

20 D o sự hiểu biết Ngài các vực sâu mở ra, Và mây đặt ra sương móc.

By His knowledge the deeps were broken up, and the skies distill the dew.

21 H ỡi con, khá gìn giữ sự khôn ngoan thật và sự dẽ dặt, Chớ để nó lìa xa mắt con;

My son, let them not escape from your sight, but keep sound and godly Wisdom and discretion,

22 T hì nó sẽ là sự sống của linh hồn con, Và như đồ trang sức cho cổ con.

And they will be life to your inner self, and a gracious ornament to your neck (your outer self).

23 C on sẽ bước đi vững vàng trong đường con, Và chơn con không vấp ngã.

Then you will walk in your way securely and in confident trust, and you shall not dash your foot or stumble.

24 K hi con nằm, chẳng có điều sợ hãi; Phải, con sẽ nằm được ngủ ngon giấc.

When you lie down, you shall not be afraid; yes, you shall lie down, and your sleep shall be sweet.

25 C hớ sợ sự kinh khiếp xảy đến thình lình, Cũng đừng kinh hãi lúc sự tàn hại giáng trên kẻ ác;

Be not afraid of sudden terror and panic, nor of the stormy blast or the storm and ruin of the wicked when it comes,

26 V ì Đức Giê-hô-va là nơi nương cậy của con, Ngài sẽ gìn giữ chơn con khỏi mắc bẫy.

For the Lord shall be your confidence, firm and strong, and shall keep your foot from being caught.

27 C hớ từ chối làm lành cho kẻ nào xứng đáng, Miễn là tay con có quyền làm điều ấy.

Withhold not good from those to whom it is due, when it is in the power of your hand to do it.

28 N hược bằng con có tại nơi con vật kẻ lân cận cầu xin, thì chớ nói với người rằng: Hãy đi và trở lại, ngày mai ta sẽ cho ngươi.

Do not say to your neighbor, Go, and come again; and tomorrow I will give it—when you have it with you.

29 C hớ lập mưu hại kẻ lân cận con, Vì người ăn ở bình yên bên con.

Do not contrive or dig up or cultivate evil against your neighbor, who dwells trustingly and confidently beside you.

30 N ếu không có làm điều hại cho con, Chớ tranh giành vô cớ với ai.

Contend not with a man for no reason—when he has done you no wrong.

31 C hớ phân bì với kẻ hung dữ, Cũng đừng chọn lối nào của hắn;

Do not resentfully envy and be jealous of an unscrupulous, grasping man, and choose none of his ways.

32 V ì Đức Giê-hô-va gớm ghiếc kẻ gian tà; Nhưng kết tình bậu bạn cùng người ngay thẳng.

For the perverse are an abomination to the Lord; but His confidential communion and secret counsel are with the righteous (those who are upright and in right standing with Him).

33 S ự rủa sả của Đức Giê-hô-va giáng trên nhà kẻ ác. Song Ngài ban phước cho chỗ ở của người công bình.

The curse of the Lord is in and on the house of the wicked, but He declares blessed (joyful and favored with blessings) the home of the just and consistently righteous.

34 Q uả thật Ngài nhạo báng kẻ hay nhạo báng; Nhưng Ngài ban ơn cho người khiêm nhường.

Though He scoffs at the scoffers and scorns the scorners, yet He gives His undeserved favor to the low, the humble, and the afflicted.

35 N gười khôn ngoan sẽ hưởng được sự vinh hiển; Còn sự thăng lên của kẻ ngu dại sẽ ra điều hổ thẹn.

The wise shall inherit glory (all honor and good) but shame is the highest rank conferred on fools.
