1 Đ ức Chúa Jêsus cùng môn đồ qua đến bờ biển bên kia, trong miền Giê-ra-sê.

They came to the other side of the sea to the region of the Gerasenes.

2 N gài mới ở trên thuyền bước xuống, tức thì có một người bị tà ma ám từ nơi mồ mả đi ra đến trước mặt Ngài.

And as soon as He got out of the boat, there met Him out of the tombs a man of an unclean spirit.

3 N gười thường ở nơi mồ mả, dẫu dùng xiềng sắt cũng chẳng ai cột trói được nữa;

This man continually lived among the tombs, and no one could subdue him any more, even with a chain;

4 v ì nhiều lần người bị cùm chơn hoặc bị xiềng, rồi bẻ xiềng tháo cùm, không ai có sức trị được.

For he had been bound often with shackles for the feet and handcuffs, but the handcuffs of chains he wrenched apart, and the shackles he rubbed and ground together and broke in pieces; and no one had strength enough to restrain or tame him.

5 N gười cứ ở nơi mồ mả và trên núi, ngày đêm kêu la và lấy đá đánh bầm mình.

Night and day among the tombs and on the mountains he was always shrieking and screaming and beating and bruising and cutting himself with stones.

6 N gười thấy Đức Chúa Jêsus ở đằng xa, chạy lại sấp mình xuống trước mặt Ngài,

And when from a distance he saw Jesus, he ran and fell on his knees before Him in homage,

7 m à kêu lớn rằng: Hỡi Đức Chúa Jêsus, Con Đức Chúa Trời rất cao, tôi với Ngài có sự gì chăng? Tôi nhơn danh Đức Chúa Trời mà khẩn cầu Ngài, xin đừng làm khổ tôi.

And crying out with a loud voice, he said, What have You to do with me, Jesus, Son of the Most High God? I solemnly implore you by God, do not begin to torment me!

8 V ì Đức Chúa Jêsus vừa phán cùng nó rằng: Hỡi tà ma, phải ra khỏi người nầy.

For Jesus was commanding, Come out of the man, you unclean spirit!

9 N gài lại hỏi rằng: Mầy tên gì? Thưa rằng: Tên tôi là Quân đội; vì chúng tôi đông.

And He asked him, What is your name? He replied, My name is Legion, for we are many.

10 N ó lại van xin Ngài đừng đuổi chúng nó ra khỏi miền đó.

And he kept begging Him urgently not to send them away out of that region.

11 V ả, chỗ đó, tại trên núi, có một bầy heo đông đương ăn.

Now a great herd of hogs was grazing there on the hillside.

12 C ác quỉ cầu xin Ngài rằng: Xin khiến chúng tôi đến với bầy heo ấy, để chúng tôi nhập vào chúng nó. Đức Chúa Jêsus cho phép.

And the demons begged Him, saying, Send us to the hogs, that we may go into them!

13 C ác tà ma ra khỏi người đó, bèn nhập vào bầy heo từ trên bực cao vụt đâm đầu xuống biển. Có độ hai ngàn con heo chết chìm cả dưới biển.

So He gave them permission. And the unclean spirits came out and entered into the hogs; and the herd, numbering about 2, 000, rushed headlong down the steep slope into the sea and were drowned in the sea.

14 N hưng kẻ chăn heo trốn, đồn tin nầy ra khắp trong thành và trong nhà quê;

The hog feeders ran away, and told in the town and in the country. And came to see what it was that had taken place.

15 d ân sự đổ ra đặng xem điều đã xảy đến. Vậy, chúng đến cùng Đức Chúa Jêsus, thấy người đã bị nhiều quỉ ám, đang ngồi, mặc quần áo, trí khôn bình tĩnh, thì sợ hãi lắm.

And they came to Jesus and looked intently and searchingly at the man who had been a demoniac, sitting there, clothed and in his right mind, who had had the legion; and they were seized with alarm and struck with fear.

16 N hững người đã thấy việc đó, thuật cho họ nghe chuyện đã xảy đến cho kẻ bị quỉ ám và bầy heo.

And those who had seen it related in full what had happened to the man possessed by demons and to the hogs.

17 C húng bèn xin Ngài ra khỏi địa phận mình.

And they began to beg to leave their neighborhood.

18 L úc Ngài đương bước vào thuyền, người trước đã bị quỉ ám xin ở lại với Ngài.

And when He had stepped into the boat, the man who had been controlled by the unclean spirits kept begging Him that he might be with Him.

19 N hưng Đức Chúa Jêsus không cho, phán rằng: Hãy về nhà ngươi, nơi bạn hữu ngươi, mà thuật lại cho họ điều lớn lao thể nào Chúa đã làm cho ngươi, và Ngài đã thương xót ngươi cách nào.

But Jesus refused to permit him, but said to him, Go home to your own and bring back word to them of how much the Lord has done for you, and had sympathy for you and mercy on you.

20 V ậy, người đi, đồn ra trong xứ Đê-ca-bô-lơ những điều lớn lao thể nào mà Đức Chúa Jêsus đã làm cho mình; ai nấy đều lấy làm lạ.

And he departed and began to publicly proclaim in Decapolis how much Jesus had done for him, and all the people were astonished and marveled.

21 K hi Đức Chúa Jêsus lại xuống thuyền qua bờ bên kia, có đoàn dân đông nhóm họp chung quanh Ngài. Ngài đứng trên bờ biển.

And when Jesus had recrossed in the boat to the other side, a great throng gathered about Him, and He was at the lakeshore.

22 B ấy giờ, có một người trong những người cai nhà hội, tên là Giai ru, đến, thấy Đức Chúa Jêsus, bèn gieo mình nơi chơn Ngài;

Then one of the rulers of the synagogue came up, Jairus by name; and seeing Him, he prostrated himself at His feet

23 n ài xin mà rằng: Con gái nhỏ tôi gần chết; xin Chúa đến, đặt tay trên nó, đặng nó lành mạnh và sống.

And begged Him earnestly, saying, My little daughter is at the point of death. Come and lay Your hands on her, so that she may be healed and live.

24 Đ ức Chúa Jêsus đi với người; đoàn dân đông cùng đi theo và lấn ép Ngài.

And Jesus went with him; and a great crowd kept following Him and pressed Him from all sides.

25 v ả, tại đó có một người đờn bà bị bịnh mất huyết đã mười hai năm,

And there was a woman who had had a flow of blood for twelve years,

26 b ấy lâu chịu khổ sở trong tay nhiều thầy thuốc, hao tốn hết tiền của, mà không thấy đỡ gì; bịnh lại càng nặng thêm.

And who had endured much suffering under many physicians and had spent all that she had, and was no better but instead grew worse.

27 N gười đã nghe tin về Đức Chúa Jêsus, bèn lẩn vào đằng sau giữa đám đông, mà rờ áo Ngài.

She had heard the reports concerning Jesus, and she came up behind Him in the throng and touched His garment,

28 V ì người nói rằng: Nếu ta chỉ rờ đến áo Ngài mà thôi, thì ta sẽ được lành.

For she kept saying, If I only touch His garments, I shall be restored to health.

29 C ùng một lúc ấy, huyết lậu liền cầm lại; người nghe trong mình đã được lành bịnh.

And immediately her flow of blood was dried up at the source, and '> suddenly] she felt in her body that she was healed of her '> distressing] ailment.

30 T ức thì Đức Chúa Jêsus tự biết có sức mạnh đã ra từ mình, bèn xây lại giữa đám đông mà hỏi rằng: Ai đã rờ áo ta?

And Jesus, recognizing in Himself that the power proceeding from Him had gone forth, turned around immediately in the crowd and said, Who touched My clothes?

31 M ôn đồ thưa rằng: Thầy thấy đám đông lấn ép thầy, thầy còn hỏi rằng: Ai rờ đến ta?

And the disciples kept saying to Him, You see the crowd pressing hard around You from all sides, and You ask, Who touched Me?

32 N gài nhìn chung quanh mình để xem người đã làm điều đó.

Still He kept looking around to see her who had done it.

33 N gười đờn bà biết sự đã xảy đến cho mình, bèn run sợ đến gieo mình dưới chơn Ngài, tỏ hết tình thật.

But the woman, knowing what had been done for her, though alarmed and frightened and trembling, fell down before Him and told Him the whole truth.

34 Đ ức Chúa Jêsus phán rằng: Hỡi con gái ta, đức tin con đã cứu con; hãy đi cho bình an và được lành bịnh.

And He said to her, Daughter, your faith (your trust and confidence in Me, springing from faith in God) has restored you to health. Go in (into) peace and be continually healed and freed from your '> distressing bodily] disease.

35 Đ ương khi Ngài còn phán, có kẻ đến từ nhà người cai nhà hội mà nói với người rằng: Con gái ông đã chết rồi; còn phiền Thầy làm chi?

While He was still speaking, there came some from the ruler’s house, who said, Your daughter has died. Why bother and distress the Teacher any further?

36 N hưng Đức Chúa Jêsus chẳng màng đến lời ấy, phán cùng cai nhà hội rằng: Đừng sợ, chỉ tin mà thôi.

Overhearing but ignoring what they said, Jesus said to the ruler of the synagogue, Do not be seized with alarm and struck with fear; only keep on believing.

37 N gài chẳng cho ai theo mình, trừ ra Phi -e-rơ, Gia-cơ, và Giăng là em là Gia-cơ.

And He permitted no one to accompany Him except Peter and James and John the brother of James.

38 K hi đã đến nhà người cai nhà hội, Ngài thấy chúng làm om sòm, kẻ khóc người kêu lớn tiếng.

When they arrived at the house of the ruler of the synagogue, He looked at tumult and the people weeping and wailing loudly.

39 V ào nhà rồi, Ngài phán cùng chúng rằng: Sao các ngươi làm ồn ào và khóc lóc vậy? Đứa trẻ chẳng phải chết, song nó ngủ.

And when He had gone in, He said to them, Why do you make an uproar and weep? The little girl is not dead but is sleeping.

40 C húng nhạo báng Ngài. Ngài bèn đuổi chúng ra hết, đem cha mẹ đứa trẻ với những kẻ theo Ngài, cùng vào chỗ nó nằm.

And they laughed and jeered at Him. But He put them all out, and, taking the child’s father and mother and those who were with Him, He went in where the little girl was lying.

41 N gài nắm tay nó mà phán rằng: Ta-li-tha Cu-mi; nghĩa là: Hỡi con gái nhỏ, ta truyền cho mầy, hãy chờ dậy.

Gripping her by the hand, He said to her, Talitha cumi—which translated is, Little girl, I say to you, arise '> from the sleep of death]!

42 T ức thì đứa gái chờ dậy mà bước đi, vì đã lên mười hai tuổi. Chúng rất lấy làm lạ.

And instantly the girl got up and started walking around—for she was twelve years old. And they were utterly astonished and overcome with amazement.

43 N gài cấm ngặt chúng đừng cho ai biết sự ấy, và truyền cho đứa trẻ ăn.

And He strictly commanded and warned them that no one should know this, and He '> expressly] told them to give her to eat.
