1 Đ ức Chúa Jêsus gọi mười hai môn đồ đến, ban quyền phép trừ tà ma, và chữa các thứ tật bịnh.

And Jesus summoned to Him His twelve disciples and gave them power and authority over unclean spirits, to drive them out, and to cure all kinds of disease and all kinds of weakness and infirmity.

2 T ên mười hai sứ đồ như sau nầy: Sứ đồ thứ nhứt là Si-môn, cũng gọi là Phi -e-rơ, và Anh-rê là em người; Gia-cơ con của Xê-bê-đê, và Giăng là em Gia-cơ;

Now these are the names of the twelve apostles (special messengers): first, Simon, who is called Peter, and Andrew his brother; James son of Zebedee, and John his brother;

3 P hi-líp cùng Ba-tê-lê-my; Thô-ma, và Ma-thi -ơ là người thâu thuế; Gia-cơ con của A-phê, cùng Tha-đê;

Philip and Bartholomew; Thomas and Matthew the tax collector; James son of Alphaeus, and Thaddaeus;

4 S i-môn là người Ca-na-an, cùng Giu-đa Ích-ca-ri-ốt, là kẻ phản Đức Chúa Jêsus.

Simon the Cananaean, and Judas Iscariot, who also betrayed Him.

5 A áy đó là mười hai sứ đồ Đức Chúa Jêsus sai đi, và có truyền rằng: Đừng đi đến dân ngoại, cũng đừng vào một thành nào của dân Sa-ma-ri cả;

Jesus sent out these twelve, charging them, Go nowhere among the Gentiles and do not go into any town of the Samaritans;

6 s ong thà đi đến cùng những con chiên lạc mất của nhà Y-sơ-ra-ên.

But go rather to the lost sheep of the house of Israel.

7 K hi đi đàng, hãy rao giảng rằng: Nước thiên đàng gần rồi.

And as you go, preach, saying, The kingdom of heaven is at hand!

8 H ãy chữa lành kẻ đau, khiến sống kẻ chết, làm sạch kẻ phung, và trừ các quỉ. Các ngươi đã được lãnh không thì hãy cho không.

Cure the sick, raise the dead, cleanse the lepers, drive out demons. Freely (without pay) you have received, freely (without charge) give.

9 Đ ừng đem vàng, hoặc bạc, hoặc tiền trong lưng các ngươi;

Take no gold nor silver nor copper money in your purses (belts);

10 c ũng đừng đem cái bao đi đường, hoặc hai áo, hoặc giày, hoặc gậy; vì người làm việc đáng được đồ ăn.

And do not take a provision bag or a wallet for a collection bag for your journey, nor two undergarments, nor sandals, nor a staff; for the workman deserves his support (his living, his food).

11 C ác ngươi vào thành nào hay là làng nào, hãy hỏi thăm ai là người đáng tiếp rước mình, rồi ở nhà họ cho đến lúc đi.

And into whatever town or village you go, inquire who in it is deserving, and stay there until you leave.

12 V à khi vào nhà nào, hãy cầu bình an cho nhà ấy;

As you go into the house, give your greetings and wish it well.

13 n ếu nhà đó xứng đáng, thì sự bình an các ngươi xuống cho; bằng không, thì sự bình an các ngươi trở về các ngươi.

Then if indeed that house is deserving, let come upon it your peace '> freedom from all the distresses that are experienced as the result of sin]. But if it is not deserving, let your peace return to you.

14 N ếu ai không tiếp rước, không nghe lời các ngươi, khi ra khỏi nhà đó, hay là thành đó, hãy phủi bụi đã dính chơn các ngươi.

And whoever will not receive and accept and welcome you nor listen to your message, as you leave that house or town, shake the dust from your feet.

15 Q uả thật, ta nói cùng các người, đến ngày phán xét, thì xứ Sô-đôm và xứ Gô-mô-rơ sẽ chịu đoán phạt nhẹ hơn thành ấy.

Truly I tell you, it shall be more tolerable on the day of judgment for the land of Sodom and Gomorrah than for that town.

16 K ìa, ta sai các ngươi đi khác nào như chiên vào giữa bầy muông sói. Vậy, hãy khôn khéo như rắn, đơn sơ như chim bò câu.

Behold, I am sending you out like sheep in the midst of wolves; be wary and wise as serpents, and be innocent (harmless, guileless, and without falsity) as doves.

17 H ãy coi chừng người ta; vì họ sẽ nộp các ngươi trước tòa án, đánh đòn các ngươi trong nhà hội;

Be on guard against men '> way or nature is to act in opposition to God]; for they will deliver you up to councils and flog you in their synagogues,

18 l ại vì cớ ta mà các ngươi sẽ bị giải đến trước mặt các quan tổng đốc và các vua, để làm chứng trước mặt họ và các dân ngoại.

And you will be brought before governors and kings for My sake, as a witness to bear testimony before them and to the Gentiles (the nations).

19 S ong khi họ sẽ đem nộp các ngươi, thì chớ lo về cách nói làm sao, hoặc nói lời gì; vì những lời đáng nói sẽ chỉ cho các ngươi chính trong giờ đó.

But when they deliver you up, do not be anxious about how or what you are to speak; for what you are to say will be given you in that very hour and moment,

20 A áy chẳng phải tự các ngươi nói đâu, song là Thánh-Linh của Cha các ngươi sẽ từ trong lòng các ngươi nói ra.

For it is not you who are speaking, but the Spirit of your Father speaking through you.

21 A nh sẽ nộp em cho bị giết, cha sẽ nộp con cho bị giết, con cái sẽ dấy lên nghịch cùng cha mẹ mà làm cho người phải chết đi.

Brother will deliver up brother to death, and the father his child; and children will take a stand against their parents and will have them put to death.

22 C ác ngươi lại sẽ bị thiên hạ ghen ghét vì danh ta; song ai bền lòng cho đến cuối cùng, thì sẽ được rỗi.

And you will be hated by all for My name’s sake, but he who perseveres and endures to the end will be saved '> from spiritual disease and death in the world to come].

23 K hi nào người ta bắt bớ các ngươi trong thành nầy, thì hãy trốn qua thành kia; vì ta nói thật, các ngươi đi chưa khắp các thành dân Y-sơ-ra-ên thì Con người đã đến rồi.

When they persecute you in one town, flee to another town; for truly I tell you, you will not have gone through all the towns of Israel before the Son of Man comes.

24 M ôn đồ không hơn thầy, tôi tớ không hơn chủ.

A disciple is not above his teacher, nor is a servant or slave above his master.

25 M ôn đồ được như thầy, tôi tớ được như chủ, thì cũng đủ rồi. Nếu người ta đã gọi chủ nhà là Bê-ên-xê-bun, phương chi là người nhà!

It is sufficient for the disciple to be like his teacher, and the servant or slave like his master. If they have called the Master of the house Beelzebub '> master of the dwelling], how much more will they speak evil of those of His household.

26 V ậy, các ngươi đừng sợ; vì chẳng có việc gì giấu mà chẳng phải bày ra, cũng chẳng có việc gì kín nhiệm mà sau sẽ chẳng biết.

So have no fear of them; for nothing is concealed that will not be revealed, or kept secret that will not become known.

27 C ho nên lời ta phán cùng các ngươi trong nơi tối tăm, hãy nói ra nơi sáng láng; và lời các ngươi nghe kề lỗ tai, hãy giảng ra trên mái nhà.

What I say to you in the dark, tell in the light; and what you hear whispered in the ear, proclaim upon the housetops.

28 Đ ừng sợ kẻ giết thân thể mà không giết được linh hồn; nhưng thà sợ Đấng làm cho mất được linh hồn và thân thể trong địa ngục.

And do not be afraid of those who kill the body but cannot kill the soul; but rather be afraid of Him who can destroy both soul and body in hell (Gehenna).

29 H ai con chim sẻ há chẳng từng bị bán một đồng tiền sao? Và ví không theo ý muốn Cha các ngươi, thì không hề một con nào rơi xuống đất.

Are not two little sparrows sold for a penny? And yet not one of them will fall to the ground without your Father’s leave (consent) and notice.

30 T óc trên đầu các ngươi cũng đã đếm hết rồi.

But even the very hairs of your head are all numbered.

31 V ậy, đừng sợ chi hết, vì các ngươi quí trọng hơn nhiều con chim sẻ.

Fear not, then; you are of more value than many sparrows.

32 B ởi đó, ai xưng ta ra trước mặt thiên hạ, thì ta cũng sẽ xưng họ trước mặt Cha ta ở trên trời;

Therefore, everyone who acknowledges Me before men and confesses Me '> out of a state of oneness with Me], I will also acknowledge him before My Father Who is in heaven and confess him.

33 c òn ta chối ta trước mặt thiên hạ, thì ta cũng sẽ chối họ trước mặt Cha ta ở trên trời.

But whoever denies and disowns Me before men, I also will deny and disown him before My Father Who is in heaven.

34 C hớ tưởng rằng ta đến để đem sự bình an cho thế gian; ta đến, không phải đem sự bình an, mà là đem gươm dáo.

Do not think that I have come to bring peace upon the earth; I have not come to bring peace, but a sword.

35 T a đến để phân rẽ con trai với cha, con gái với mẹ, dâu với bà gia;

For I have come to part asunder a man from his father, and a daughter from her mother, and a newly married wife from her mother-in-law—

36 v à người ta sẽ có kẻ thù nghịch, là người nhà mình.

And a man’s foes will be they of his own household.

37 A i yêu cha mẹ hơn ta thì không đáng cho ta; ai yêu con trai hay là con gái hơn ta thì cũng không đáng cho ta;

He who loves '> takes more pleasure in] father or mother more than Me is not worthy of Me; and he who loves son or daughter more than Me is not worthy of Me;

38 a i không vác thập tự mình mà theo ta, thì cũng chẳng đáng cho ta.

And he who does not take up his cross and follow Me '> cleave steadfastly to Me, conforming wholly to My example in living and, if need be, in dying also] is not worthy of Me.

39 A i gìn giữ sự sống mình, thì sẽ mất; còn ai vì cớ ta mất sự sống mình, thì sẽ tìm lại được.

Whoever finds his '> lower] life will lose it, and whoever loses his life on My account will find it.

40 A i rước các ngươi, tức là rước ta; ai rước ta, tức là rước Đấng đã sai ta.

He who receives and welcomes and accepts you receives and welcomes and accepts Me, and he who receives and welcomes and accepts Me receives and welcomes and accepts Him Who sent Me.

41 A i rước một đấng tiên tri vì là tiên tri, thì sẽ lãnh phần thưởng của đấng tiên tri; ai rước một người công chính vì là công chính, thì sẽ lãnh phần thưởng của người công chính.

He who receives and welcomes and accepts a prophet because he is a prophet shall receive a prophet’s reward, and he who receives and welcomes and accepts a righteous man because he is a righteous man shall receive a righteous man’s reward.

42 A i sẽ cho một người trong bọn nhỏ nầy chỉ uống một chén nước lạnh, vì người nhỏ đó là môn đồ ta, quả thật, ta nói cùng các ngươi, kẻ ấy sẽ chẳng mất phần thưởng của mình đâu.

And whoever gives to one of these little ones even a cup of cold water because he is My disciple, surely I declare to you, he shall not lose his reward.
