1 H ỡi nhà Y-sơ-ra-ên, hãy nghe lời Đức Giê-hô-va phán cho ngươi.

Hear the word which the Lord speaks to you, O house of Israel.

2 Đ ức Giê-hô-va phán như vầy: Chớ tập theo tục của các dân ngoại, chớ sợ các dấu trên trời, mặc dầu dân ngoại nghi sợ các dấu ấy.

Thus says the Lord: Learn not the way of the nations and be not dismayed at the signs of the heavens, though they are dismayed at them,

3 V ì thói quen của các dân ấy chỉ là hư không. Người ta đốn cây trong rừng, tay thợ lấy búa mà đẽo;

For the customs and ordinances of the peoples are false, empty, and futile; it is but a tree which one cuts out of the forest, the work of the hands of the craftsman with the ax or other tool.

4 r ồi lấy bạc vàng mà trang sức; dùng búa mà đóng đinh vào, đặng khỏi lung lay.

They deck with silver and with gold; they fasten it with nails and with hammers so it will not fall apart or move around.

5 C ác thần ấy tiện như hình cây chà là, không biết nói; không biết đi, nên phải khiêng. Đừng sợ các thần ấy, vì không có quyền làm họa hay làm phước.

are like pillars of turned work, like scarecrows in a cucumber field; they cannot speak; they have to be carried, for they cannot walk. Do not be afraid of them, for they cannot do evil, neither is it possible for them to do good.

6 H ỡi Đức Giê-hô-va, chẳng ai giống như Ngài! Ngài là lớn, danh Ngài có sức mạnh lớn lắm.

None at all is like You, O Lord; You are great, and Your name is great in might.

7 H ỡi vua các nước! ai chẳng nên sợ Ngài? Aáy là điều Ngài đáng được. Vì trong những người khôn ngoan của các nước, tỏ ra sự vinh hiển mình, chẳng có ai giống như Ngài.

Who would not fear You, O King of the nations? For it is fitting to You and Your due! For among all the wise of the nations and in all their kingdoms, there is none like You.

8 C húng nó hết thảy đều là u mê khờ dại. Sự dạy dỗ của hình tượng chỉ là gỗ mà thôi.

But they are altogether irrational and stupid and foolish. Their instruction is given by idols who are but wood!

9 A áy là bạc giát mỏng vận đến từ Ta-rê-si, và vàng của U-pha, nhờ tay thợ chạm làm ra cùng thợ vàng chế thành; có vải màu xanh màu tím làm áo; ấy cũng là việc của người thợ khéo.

Silver beaten is brought from Tarshish and gold from Uphaz, the work of the craftsman and of the hands of the goldsmith; the clothing is violet and purple—they are all the work of skillful men.

10 N hưng Đức Giê-hô-va là Đức Chúa Trời thật; Ngài là Đức Chúa Trời hằng sống, là Vua đời đời. Nhơn cơn giận Ngài, đất đều rúng động, các nước không thể chịu được cơn giận Ngài.

But the Lord is the true God and the God of truth (the God Who is Truth). He is the living God and the everlasting King. At His wrath the earth quakes, and the nations are not able to bear His indignation.

11 C ác ngươi khó nói cùng họ rằng: Những thần nầy không làm nên các từng trời, cũng không làm nên đất, thì sẽ bị diệt đi khỏi trên đất và khỏi dưới các từng trời.

Thus shall you say to them: The gods, who did not make the heavens and the earth, shall perish from the earth and from under the heavens.

12 C hính Đức Giê-hô-va đã làm nên đất bởi quyền năng Ngài, đã lập thế gian bởi sự khôn ngoan Ngài, đã giương các từng trời ra bởi sự thông sáng Ngài.

God made the earth by His power; He established the world by His wisdom and by His understanding and skill stretched out the heavens.

13 K hi Ngài phát ra tiếng, thì có tiếng động lớn của nước trong các từng trời; Ngài làm cho hơi nước từ đầu cùng đất bay lên, kéo gió ra từ trong kho Ngài;

When He utters His voice, there is a tumult of waters in the heavens, and He causes the vapors to ascend from the ends of the earth. He makes lightnings for the rain and brings forth the wind out from His treasuries and from His storehouses.

14 n gười ta đều trở nên u mê khờ dại, thợ vàng xấu hổ vì tượng chạm của mình; vì các tượng đúc chẳng qua là giả dối, chẳng có hơi thở ở trong;

Every man has become like a brute, irrational and stupid, without knowledge; every goldsmith is brought to shame by his graven idols; for his molten images are frauds and falsehood, and there is no breath in them.

15 c hỉ là sự hư vô, chỉ là đồ đánh lừa; đến ngày thăm phạt sẽ bị diệt mất.

They are devoid of worth, usefulness, or truth, a work of delusion and mockery; in their time of trial and punishment they shall perish.

16 S ản nghiệp của Gia-cốp thì chẳng giống như vậy; vì Ngài đã tạo nên mọi sự, và Y-sơ-ra-ên là chi phái của cơ nghiệp Ngài. Danh Ngài là Đức Giê-hô-va vạn quân.

The Portion of Jacob is not like these, for He is the Fashioner and Maker of all things, and Israel is the tribe of His inheritance—the Lord of hosts is His name.

17 H ỡi ngươi là kẻ bị vây, hãy lấy của cải mình lìa khỏi đất nầy.

Gather up your bundle from the ground, O you who dwell under siege.

18 V ì Đức Giê-hô-va phán như vầy: Nầy, lần nầy ta sẽ liệng ra dân của đất nầy, ta sẽ làm khốn chúng nó, cho chúng nó tỉnh biết.

For thus says the Lord: Behold, I will sling out the inhabitants of the land at this time and will bring distress on them, that they may feel it and find it.

19 K hốn nạn cho tôi vì vết thương tôi! Vít tôi là đau đớn! Nhưng tôi nói: Aáy là sự lo buồn tôi, tôi phải chịu.

Woe is me because of my hurt! My wound is grievous and incurable. But I said, Surely this sickness and suffering and grief are mine, and I must endure, tolerate, and bear them.

20 T rại của tôi bị phá hủy, những dây của tôi đều đứt, con cái tôi bỏ tôi, chúng nó không còn nữa. Tôi không có người để giương trại tôi ra và căng màn tôi.

My tent (home) is taken by force and plundered, and all my cords are broken. My children have gone forth from me, and they are no more; there is no one to stretch forth my tent any more and to set up my curtains.

21 N hững kẻ chăn chiên đều ngu dại, chẳng tìm cầu Đức Giê-hô-va. Vì vậy mà chúng nó chẳng được thạnh vượng, và hết thảy những bầy chúng nó bị tan lạc.

For the shepherds have become like brutes, irrational and stupid, and have not sought the Lord or inquired of Him or required Him. Therefore they have not dealt prudently and have not prospered, and all their flocks are scattered.

22 N ầy, có tiếng đồn ra; có sự ồn ào lớn đến từ miền phương bắc, đặng làm cho các thành của Giu-đa nên hoang vu, nên hang chó rừng.

Hark, the sound of a rumor! comes!—a great commotion out of the north country—to make the cities of Judah a desolation, a dwelling place of jackals.

23 H ỡi Đức Giê-hô-va, tôi biết đường của loài người chẳng do nơi họ, người ta đi, chẳng có quyền dẫn đưa bước của mình.

O Lord, I know that the way of a man is not in himself; it is not in man to direct his steps.

24 H ỡi Đức Giê-hô-va, vậy xin hãy sửa trị tôi cách chừng đỗi; xin chớ nhơn cơn giận, e rằng Ngài làm cho tôi ra hư không chăng.

O Lord, correct, instruct, and chastise me, but with judgment and in just measure—not in Your anger, lest You diminish me and bring me to nothing.

25 X in hãy đổ sự thạnh nộ trên các nước chẳng nhìn biết Ngài, trên các họ hàng chẳng kêu cầu danh Ngài. Vì họ nuốt Gia-cốp, và còn nuốt nữa; họ diệt Gia-cốp, làm cho chỗ ở nó thành ra hoang vu.

Pour out Your wrath upon the nations that do not know or recognize You and upon the peoples that do not call upon Your name. For they have devoured Jacob, yes, devoured him and consumed him and made his habitation a desolate waste.
