1 H ãy liệng bánh ngươi nơi mặt nước, vì khỏi lâu ngày ngươi sẽ tìm nó lại.

Cast your bread upon the waters, for you will find it after many days.

2 H ãy phân phát nó cho bảy hoặc cho tám người; vì ngươi không biết tai nạn nào sẽ xảy ra trên đất.

Give a portion to seven, yes, even to eight, for you know not what evil may come upon the earth.

3 K hi mây đầy nước, nó bèn mưa xuống đất; khi một cây ngã về hướng nam hay về hướng bắc, hễ ngã chỗ nào nó phải ở chỗ đó.

If the clouds are full of rain, they empty themselves upon the earth; and if a tree falls toward the south or toward the north, in the place where the tree falls, there it will lie.

4 A i xem gió sẽ không gieo; ai xem mây sẽ không gặt.

He who observes the wind will not sow, and he who regards the clouds will not reap.

5 N gười không biết đường của gió đi, cũng không biết xương cốt kết cấu trong bụng đờn bà mang thai thể nào, thì cũng một thể ấy, ngươi chẳng hiểu biết công việc của Đức Chúa Trời, là Đấng làm nên muôn vật.

As you know not what is the way of the wind, or how the spirit comes to the bones in the womb of a pregnant woman, even so you know not the work of God, Who does all.

6 V ừa sáng sớm, khá gieo giống ngươi, và buổi chiều, chớ nghỉ tay ngươi; vì ngươi chẳng biết giống nào sẽ mọc tốt, hoặc giống nầy, hoặc giống kia, hoặc là cả hai đều sẽ ra tốt.

In the morning sow your seed, and in the evening withhold not your hands, for you know not which shall prosper, whether this or that, or whether both alike will be good.

Truly the light is sweet, and a pleasant thing it is for the eyes to behold the sun.

8 N ếu một người được sống lâu năm, thì khá vui vẻ trong trọn các năm ấy; song cũng chớ quên những ngày tối tăm, vì những ngày ấy nhiều. Phàm việc gì xảy đến đều là sự hư không.

Yes, if a man should live many years, let him rejoice in them all; yet let him remember the days of darkness, for they will be many. All that comes is vanity (emptiness, falsity, vainglory, and futility)!

9 H ỡi kẻ trẻ kia, hãy vui mừng trong buổi thiếu niên, khá đem lòng hớn hở trong khi còn thơ ấu, hãy đi theo đường lối lòng mình muốn, và nhìn xem sự mắt mình ưa thích, nhưng phải biết rằng vì mọi việc ấy, Đức Chúa Trời sẽ đòi ngươi đến mà đoán xét.

Rejoice, O young man, in your adolescence, and let your heart cheer you in the days of your youth. And walk in the ways of your heart and in the sight of your eyes, but know that for all these things God will bring you into judgment.

10 V ậy, khá giải sầu khỏi lòng ngươi, và cất điều tai hại khỏi xác thịt ngươi; vì lúc thiếu niên và thì xuân xanh là sự hư không mà thôi.

Therefore remove sorrow and vexation from your heart and mind and put away evil from your body, for youth and the dawn of life are vanity.
