1 H ỡi anh em, chúng tôi muốn anh em biết ơn Đức Chúa Trời đã làm cho các Hội thánh ở xứ Ma-xê-đoan:

We want to tell you further, brethren, about the grace (the favor and spiritual blessing) of God which has been evident in the churches of Macedonia;

2 đ ang khi họ chịu nhiều hoạn nạn thử thách, thì lòng quá vui mừng, và cơn rất nghèo khó của họ đã rải rộng ra sự dư dật của lòng rộng rãi mình.

For in the midst of an ordeal of severe tribulation, their abundance of joy and their depth of poverty have overflowed in wealth of lavish generosity on their part.

3 V ì tôi làm chứng cho họ rằng họ đã tự ý quyên tiền theo sức mình, hoặc cũng quá sức nữa,

For, as I can bear witness, according to their ability, yes, and beyond their ability; and voluntarily,

4 v à nài xin chúng tôi làm ơn cho họ có phần vào sự giùm giúp các thánh đồ.

Begging us most insistently for the favor and the fellowship of contributing in this ministration for the saints.

5 H ọ lại làm quá lòng trông cậy của chúng tôi, vì trước hết đã dâng chính mình cho Chúa, và sau lại cho chúng tôi, theo ý muốn Đức Chúa Trời.

Nor that we expected, but first they gave themselves to the Lord and to us by the will of God '> entirely disregarding their personal interests, they gave as much as they possibly could, having put themselves at our disposal to be directed by the will of God]—

6 V ậy nên chúng tôi đã khuyên Tít đi đến nơi anh em để làm trọn việc nhơn đức nầy, như người đã khởi sự làm.

So much so that we have urged Titus that as he began it, he should also complete this beneficent and gracious contribution among you.

7 V ậy thì, như anh em đều trổi hơn về mọi việc, tức là về đức tin, về lời giảng, về sự vâng lời, về mọi sự sốt sắng, về tình yêu chúng tôi, thì cũng hãy chủ ý làm cho trổi hơn về việc nhơn đức nầy.

Now as you abound and excel and are at the front in everything—in faith, in expressing yourselves, in knowledge, in all zeal, and in your love for us— abound and excel in this gracious work also.

8 T ôi nói điều đó chẳng phải truyền dạy anh em; nhưng bởi kẻ khác làm gương sốt sắng, thì tôi cũng muốn thử xem sự thành thực của lòng yêu thương anh em là thể nào.

I give this not as an order, but to prove, by the zeal of others, the sincerity of your love also.

9 V ì anh em biết ơn của Đức Chúa Jêsus Christ chúng ta, Ngài vốn giàu, vì anh em mà tự làm nên nghèo, hầu cho bởi sự nghèo của Ngài, anh em được nên giàu.

For you are becoming progressively acquainted with and recognizing more strongly and clearly the grace of our Lord Jesus Christ (His kindness, His gracious generosity, His undeserved favor and spiritual blessing), that though He was rich, yet for your sakes He became poor, in order that by His poverty you might become enriched (abundantly supplied).

10 A áy là ý tôi ngỏ cho anh em; ý đó có ích cho anh em, vì từ năm trước, anh em đã là người thứ nhứt, chẳng người ra tay làm việc nầy, lại vui lòng mà làm nữa.

my counsel and my opinion in this matter that I give: It is profitable and fitting for you which more than a year ago you not only began, but were the first to wish to do anything.

11 V ậy bây giờ, hãy làm trọn công việc của anh em, hầu cho như anh em đã sẵn lòng thể nào thì làm cho trọn theo tài năng mình.

So now finish doing it, that your readiness in desiring it may be equalled by your completion of it according to your ability and means.

12 V ì nếu mình lấy lòng tốt mà làm, thì được đẹp ý theo điều mình có, chớ chẳng theo điều mình không có.

For if the readiness to give is there, then it is acceptable and welcomed in proportion to what a person has, not according to what he does not have.

13 T ôi chẳng khuyên bảo anh em chịu túng tíu để giúp đỡ kẻ khác, nhưng tôi muốn có sự bằng nhau.

For it is not that other people be eased and relieved and you be burdened and suffer,

14 T heo cảnh bây giờ, anh em có dư thì bù cho họ lúc túng thiếu, hầu cho họ có dư cũng bù lại lúc túng thiếu cho anh em, như vậy là bằng nhau,

But to have equality, your surplus over necessity at the present time going to meet their want and to equalize the difference created by it, so that their surplus in turn may be given to supply your want. Thus there may be equality,

15 t heo lời chép rằng: Kẻ đã thâu nhiều cũng chẳng dư, kẻ thâu ít cũng chẳng thiếu chi.

As it is written, He who gathered much had nothing over, and he who gathered little did not lack.

16 T ạ ơn Đức Chúa Trời về sự Ngài đã xui lòng Tít cũng ân cần với anh em thể ấy;

But thanks be to God Who planted the same earnest zeal and care for you in the heart of Titus.

17 v ì người nghe lời tôi khuyên, và cũng bởi sốt sắng, thì người tự ý đi đến thăm anh em.

For he not only welcomed and responded to our appeal, but was himself so keen in his enthusiasm and interest in you that he is going to you of his own accord.

18 C húng tôi có sai một người anh em cùng đi, là người có tiếng khen đồn khắp trong các Hội thánh, tại những điều người đã làm vì đạo Tin Lành.

But we are sending along with him that brother whose praise in the Gospel ministry throughout all the churches;

19 V ả lại, người đã được các Hội thánh chọn lựa, để làm bạn đi đường cùng chúng tôi trong việc nhơn đức nầy, là việc chúng tôi làm trọn để tỏ vinh hiển chính mình Chúa ra, và để làm chứng về ý tốt của chúng tôi.

And more than that, he has been appointed by the churches to travel as our companion in regard to this bountiful contribution which we are administering for the glory of the Lord Himself and our eager readiness.

20 C húng tôi nhờ đó tránh khỏi tiếng trách móc về sự dùng tiền góp nhiều như vậy;

we are on our guard, intending that no one should find anything for which to blame us in regard to our administration of this large contribution.

21 v ì chúng tôi tìm tòi điều lành, chẳng những ở trước mặt Chúa, mà cũng ở trước mặt người ta nữa.

For we take thought beforehand and aim to be honest and absolutely above suspicion, not only in the sight of the Lord but also in the sight of men.

22 C húng tôi lại sai một người trong anh em chúng tôi đi với họ, là người có lòng sốt sắng mà đòi phen chúng tôi đã thử thách trong nhiều dịp; lần nầy, vì cớ người có lòng rất tin cậy anh em, thì chắc là càng sốt sắng hơn.

Moreover, along with them we are sending our brother, whom we have often put to the test and have found him zealous (devoted and earnest) in many matters, but who is now more earnest than ever because of absolute confidence in you.

23 A áy vậy, nói về Tít, thì là bạn bè tôi, và là người cùng làm việc với tôi ở nơi anh em; còn như hai anh em kia, là sứ giả của các Hội thánh, tức là sự vinh hiển của Đấng Christ.

As for Titus, he is my colleague and shares my work in your service; and as for the brethren, they are the messengers of the churches, a credit and glory to Christ (the Messiah).

24 V ậy, anh em ở trước mặt các Hội thánh, hãy tỏ chứng cớ của sự yêu thương mình, và bày ra cho họ biết chúng tôi có cớ khoe mình nơi họ vì anh em.

Show to these men, therefore, in the sight of the churches, the reality and plain truth of your love (your affection, goodwill, and benevolence) and what I had for boasting about and being proud of you.
