1 H ãy nhắc lại cho các tín đồ phải vâng phục những bậc cầm quyền chấp chánh, phải vâng lời các bậc ấy, sẵn sàng làm mọi việc lành,

Remind people to be submissive to magistrates and authorities, to be obedient, to be prepared and willing to do any upright and honorable work,

2 c hớ nói xấu ai, chớ tranh cạnh, hãy dong thứ, đối với mọi người tỏ ra một cách mềm mại trọn vẹn.

To slander or abuse or speak evil of no one, to avoid being contentious, to be forbearing (yielding, gentle, and conciliatory), and to show unqualified courtesy toward everybody.

3 V ì chưng chúng ta ngày trước cũng ngu muội, bội nghịch, bị lừa dối, bị đủ thứ tình dục dâm dật sai khiến, sống trong sự hung ác tham lam, đáng bị người ta ghét và tự chúng ta cũng ghét lẫn nhau.

For we also were once thoughtless and senseless, obstinate and disobedient, deluded and misled; slaves to all sorts of cravings and pleasures, wasting our days in malice and jealousy and envy, hateful (hated, detestable) and hating one another.

4 N hưng từ khi lòng nhơn từ của Đức Chúa Trời, là Cứu Chúa chúng ta, và tình thương yêu của Ngài đối với mọi người ta đã được bày ra, thì Ngài cứu chúng ta,

But when the goodness and loving-kindness of God our Savior to man appeared,

5 k hông phải cứu vì việc công bình chúng ta đã làm, nhưng cứ theo lòng thương xót Ngài, bởi sự rửa về sự lại sanh và sự đổi mới của Đức Thánh Linh

He saved us, not because of any works of righteousness that we had done, but because of His own pity and mercy, by cleansing of the new birth (regeneration) and renewing of the Holy Spirit,

6 m à Ngài đã rải ra trên chúng ta cách dư dật bởi Đức Chúa Jêsus Christ, Cứu Chúa chúng ta;

Which He poured out richly upon us through Jesus Christ our Savior.

7 h ầu cho chúng ta nhờ ơn Ngài được xưng công bình, trở nên con kế tự của Ngài trong sự trông cậy của sự sống đời đời.

that we might be justified by His grace (by His favor, wholly undeserved),, and that we might become heirs of eternal life according to hope.

8 L ời nầy là chắc chắn, ta muốn con nói quyết sự đó, hầu cho những kẻ đã tin Đức Chúa Trời lo chăm chỉ làm việc lành: đó là điều tốt lành và có ích cho mọi người.

This message is most trustworthy, and concerning these things I want you to insist steadfastly, so that those who have believed in (trusted in, relied on) God may be careful to apply themselves to honorable occupations and to doing good, for such things are excellent and right, but good and profitable for the people.

9 N hưng hãy lánh những điều cãi lẽ dại dột, những gia phổ, những sự cạnh tranh nghị luận về luật pháp, vì mấy sự đó đều là vô ích và hư không.

But avoid stupid and foolish controversies and genealogies and dissensions and wrangling about the Law, for they are unprofitable and futile.

10 S au khi mình đã khuyên bảo kẻ theo tà giáo một hai lần rồi, thì hãy lánh họ,

a man who is factious, after admonishing him a first and second time, reject,

11 v ì biết rằng người như thế đã bội nghịch mà cứ phạm tội, thì tự đoán phạt lấy mình.

Well aware that such a person has utterly changed (is perverted and corrupted); he goes on sinning is convicted of guilt and self-condemned.

12 Đ ến chừng ta sẽ sai A-te-ma hoặc Ti-chi-cơ đến cùng con, thì hãy vội vả sang thành Ni-cô-bô-li nhập với ta; vì ta định qua mùa đông tại đó.

13 H ãy lo liệu cho Xê-ma, là thầy dạy luật, và A-bô-lô, đừng thiếu đồ chi hết, trong khi họ ra đi.

Do your utmost to speed Zenas the lawyer and Apollos on their way; see that they want for (lack) nothing.

14 N hững người bổn đạo ta cũng phải học tập chuyên làm việc lành, đặng giùm giúp khi túng ngặt, hầu cho họ khỏi đưng đi mà không ra trái.

And let our own learn to apply themselves to good deeds (to honest labor and honorable employment), so that they may be able to meet necessary demands whenever the occasion may require and not be living idle and uncultivated and unfruitful lives.

15 H ết thảy những người ở cùng ta gởi lời thăm con. Chào thăm những kẻ yêu chúng ta bởi lòng tin đạo. Nguyền xin ân điển ở với anh em hết thảy!
