1 H ỡi kẻ rất yêu dấu, nầy là thơ thứ hai tôi viết cho anh em. trong thơ nầy và thơ kia, tôi tìm cách làm cho nhớ lại để giục lòng lành trong anh em,

Beloved, I am now writing you this second letter. In them I have stirred up your unsullied (sincere) mind by way of remembrance,

2 h ầu cho ghi lấy lời nói trước của Chúa và Cứu Chúa chúng ta, đã cậy các sứ đồ của anh em mà truyền lại.

That you should recall the predictions of the holy (consecrated, dedicated) prophets and the commandment of the Lord and Savior through your apostles (His special messengers).

3 T rước hết phải biết rằng, trong những ngày sau rốt, sẽ có mấy kẻ hay gièm chê, dùng lời giễu cợt, ở theo tình dục riêng của mình,

To begin with, you must know and understand this, that scoffers (mockers) will come in the last days with scoffing, walk after their own fleshly desires

4 đ ến mà nói rằng: Chớ nào lời hứa về sự Chúa đến ở đâu? Vì từ khi tổ phụ chúng ta qua đời rồi, muôn vật vẫn còn nguyên như lúc bắt đầu sáng thế.

And say, Where is the promise of His coming? For since the forefathers fell asleep, all things have continued exactly as they did from the beginning of creation.

5 C húng nó có ý quên lững đi rằng buổi xưa bởi lời Đức Chúa Trời có các từng trời và trái đất, đất ra từ Nước và làm nên ở giữa nước,

For they willfully overlook and forget this, that the heavens existence long ago by the word of God, and the earth also which was formed out of water and by means of water,

6 t hế gian bấy giờ cũng bị hủy phá như vậy, là bị chìm đắm bởi nước lụt.

Through which the world that then was deluged with water and perished.

7 N hưng trời đất thời bây giờ cũng là bởi lời ấy mà còn lại, và để dành cho lửa; lửa sẽ đốt nó đi trong ngày phán xét và hủy phá kẻ ác.

But by the same word the present heavens and earth have been stored up (reserved) for fire, being kept until the day of judgment and destruction of the ungodly people.

8 H ỡi kẻ rất yêu dấu, chớ nên quên rằng ở trước mặt Chúa một ngày như ngàn năm, ngàn năm như một ngày.

Nevertheless, do not let this one fact escape you, beloved, that with the Lord one day is as a thousand years and a thousand years as one day.

9 C húa không chậm trễ về lời hứa của Ngài như mấy người kia tưởng đâu, nhưng Ngài lấy lòng nhịn nhục đối với anh em, không muốn cho một người nào chết mất, song muốn cho mọi người đều ăn năn.

The Lord does not delay and is not tardy or slow about what He promises, according to some people’s conception of slowness, but He is long-suffering (extraordinarily patient) toward you, not desiring that any should perish, but that all should turn to repentance.

10 S ong le, ngày của Chúa sẽ đến như kẻ trộm. Bấy giờ các từng trời sẽ có tiếng vang rầm mà qua đi, các thể chết bị đốt mà tiêu tán, đất cùng mọi công trình trên nó đều sẽ bị đốt cháy cả.

But the day of the Lord will come like a thief, and then the heavens will vanish (pass away) with a thunderous crash, and the '> material] elements will be dissolved with fire, and the earth and the works that are upon it will be burned up.

11 V ì mọi vật đó phải tiêu tán thì anh em đáng nên thánh và tôn kính trong mọi sự ăn ở của mình là dường nào,

Since all these things are thus in the process of being dissolved, what kind of person ought you to be in consecrated and holy behavior and devout and godly qualities,

12 t rong khi chờ đợi trông mong cho ngày Đức Chúa Trời mau đến, là ngày các từng trời sẽ bị đốt mà tiêu tán, các thể chất sẽ bị thiêu mà tan chảy đi!

While you wait and earnestly long for (expect and hasten) the coming of the day of God by reason of which the flaming heavens will be dissolved, and the '> material] elements will flare and melt with fire?

13 V ả, theo lời hứa của Chúa, chúng ta chờ đợi trời mới đất mới, là nơi sự công bình ăn ở.

But we look for new heavens and a new earth according to His promise, in which righteousness (uprightness, freedom from sin, and right standing with God) is to abide.

14 V ậy nên, hỡi kẻ rất yêu dấu, vì anh em trông đợi những sự đó, thì phải làm hết sức mình, hầu cho Chúa thấy anh em ở bình an, không dấu vít, chẳng chỗ trách được.

So, beloved, since you are expecting these things, be eager to be found by Him without spot or blemish and at peace '> free from fears and agitating passions and moral conflicts].

15 L ại phải nhìn biết rằng sự nhịn nhục lâu dài của Chúa chúng ta cốt vì cứu chuộc anh em, cũng như Phao lô, anh rất yêu dấu của chúng ta, đã đem sự khôn ngoan được ban cho mình mà viết thơ cho anh em vậy.

And consider that the long-suffering of our Lord '> His slowness in avenging wrongs and judging the world] is salvation ( that which is conducive to the soul’s safety), even as our beloved brother Paul also wrote to you according to the spiritual insight given him,

16 A áy là điều người đã viết trong mọi bức thơ, nói về những sự đó, ở trong có mấy khúc khó hiểu, mà những kẻ dốt nát và tin không quyết đem giải sai ý nghĩa, cũng như họ giải sai về các phần Kinh Thánh khác, chuốc lấy sự hư mất riêng về mình.

Speaking of this as he does in all of his letters. There are some things in those that are difficult to understand, which the ignorant and unstable twist and misconstrue to their own utter destruction, just as the rest of the Scriptures.

17 H ỡi kẻ rất yêu dấu, vì anh em đã được biết trước, vậy hãy giữ cho cẩn thận, e anh em cũng bị sự mê hoặc của những người ác ấy dẫn dụ, mất sự vững vàng của mình chăng.

Let me warn you therefore, beloved, that knowing these things beforehand, you should be on your guard, lest you be carried away by the error of lawless and wicked fall from your own firm condition.

18 H ãy tấn tới trong ân điển và trong sự thông biết Chúa và Cứu Chúa chúng ta là Đức Chúa Jêsus Christ. Nguyền xin vinh hiển về nơi Ngài, từ rày đến đời đời! A-men.

But grow in grace (undeserved favor, spiritual strength) and recognition and knowledge and understanding of our Lord and Savior Jesus Christ (the Messiah). To Him glory (honor, majesty, and splendor) both now and to the day of eternity. Amen (so be it)!
