1 K hốn thay cho những kẻ ăn ở nể trong Si-ôn, và cho những kẻ tưởng mình an ổn trên núi Sa-ma-ri! Khốn thay cho những kẻ sang trọng của các nước làm đầu, là những kẻ mà nhà Y-sơ-ra-ên về cùng!

Woe to those who are at ease in Zion and to those on the mountain of Samaria who are careless and feel secure, the notable men of the chief of the nations, to whom the house of Israel comes!

2 V ậy hãy qua Ca-ne, và hãy xem; hãy đi từ đó đến thành Ha-mát lớn, đoạn xuống thành Gát của người Phi-li-tin. những thành ấy hát tốt hơn những nước nầy sao? Bờ cõi chúng nó há lớn hơn bờ cõi các ngươi sao?

Pass over to Calneh and see, and from there go to Hamath the great; then go down to Gath of the Philistines. Are they better than these kingdoms? Or are their boundaries greater than your boundaries,

3 C ác ngươi làm cho ngày hoạn nạn xa ra, và làm cho ngôi bạo ngược gần lại!

O you who put far away the evil day, yet cause the sitting of violence to come near?

4 C ác ngươi nằm ngủ trên giường ngà và duỗi dài trên ghế dài mình; ăn những chiên con chọn ra trong bầy và những bò con mập trong chuồng.

Woe to those who lie upon beds of ivory and stretch themselves upon their couches, and eat the lambs out of the flock and the calves out of the midst of the stall,

5 T hật, các ngươi hát bài bậy bạ họa theo đờn cầm, bày vẽ ra những đồ nhạc khí cho mình như vua Đa-vít.

Who sing idle songs to the sound of the harp and invent for themselves instruments of music like David’s,

6 C ác ngươi uống rượu trong những chén lớn, dùng dầu rất quí xức cho thơm mình, mà không lo đến tai nạn của Giô-sép!

Who drink wine in bowls and anoint themselves with the finest oils, but are not grieved and sick at heart over the affliction and ruin of Joseph (Israel)!

7 V ậy nên chúng nó sẽ bị bắt làm phu tù đầu nhứt trong những kẻ bị bắt, và bấy giờ sẽ dứt tiếng reo vui của những kẻ buông tuồng ấy!

Therefore now shall they go captive with the first who go into exile, and the revelry and banqueting of those who stretch themselves shall be ended.

8 Đ ức Giê-hô-va là Đức Chúa Trời vạn quân phán rằng: Chúa Giê-hô-va đã chỉ mình mà thề rằng: Ta gớm ghiếc sự kiêu ngạo của Gia-cốp, và ghét cung đền nó; vậy nên ta sẽ phó thành nầy cùng những vật chứa ở trong.

The Lord God has sworn by Himself—the Lord, the God of hosts, says: I abhor, reject, and despise the pride and false, futile glory of Jacob (Israel), and I hate his palaces and strongholds; and I will deliver up the city with all that is in it.

9 N ếu trong một nhà còn lại mười người, thì chúng nó cũng sẽ chết hết.

And it shall come to pass that if there remain ten men in one house, they shall die.

10 M ột người bà con gần là kẻ phải đốt xác chết, sẽ cất người lên để đem xương ra khỏi nhà; người ấy sẽ hỏi kẻ ở nhà trong rằng: Còn có ai ở với ngươi không? Kẻ ấy đáp rằng: Không có ai hết! Bấy giờ người bà con nói rằng: Hãy im đi! chớ nói đến danh Đức Giê-hô-va!

And then a man’s uncle or kinsman, he who is to make a burning to cremate and dispose, comes in to bring the bones out of the house, and he shall say to another still alive in the farthest parts of the house, Is there anyone else with you? and he shall say, No. Then shall the newcomer say, Hush! Hold your tongue! We dare not so mention the name of the Lord.

11 V ì, Đức Giê-hô-va truyền lịnh, nầy, nhà lớn sẽ bị ngã xuống mà đổ nát, nhà nhỏ sẽ bị tan ra từng mảnh.

For behold, the Lord commands and He will smite the great house into ruins and the little house into fragments.

12 N gười ta há cho ngựa chạy trên vầng đá sao! Người ta há đem bò cày tại đó? Nhưng các ngươi đã đổi sự chánh trực làm cay đắng, và đổi trái công bình ra ngải cứu.

Do horses run upon rocks? Do men plow the ocean with oxen? But you have turned justice into gall and the fruit of righteousness into wormwood—

13 C ác ngươi ưa thích sự hư không, và nói rằng: Há chẳng phải nhờ sức mạnh cẩu thả mà chúng ta đã được sừng sao?

You who rejoice in Lo-debar, who say, Have we not by our own strength taken Karnaim or horns for ourselves?

14 G iê-hô-va Đức Chúa Trời vạn quân phán: Nầy, hỡi nhà Y-sơ-ra-ên, ta sẽ dấy lên một nước nghịch cùng các ngươi, nó sẽ hà hiếp các ngươi, từ lối vào Ha-mát cho đến khe A-ra-ba.

For behold, I will raise up against you a nation, O house of Israel, says the Lord, the God of hosts; and they shall afflict and oppress you from the entrance of Hamath to the brook of the Arabah.
