1 V ả, có mấy người từ xứ Giu-đê đến, dạy các anh em rằng: Nếu các ngươi chẳng chịu phép cắt bì theo lễ Môi-se, thì không thể được cứu rỗi.

But some men came down from Judea and were instructing the brethren, Unless you are circumcised in accordance with the Mosaic custom, you cannot be saved.

2 N hơn đó, có sự khác ý và cuộc cãi lẽ dữ dội giữa Phao-lô và Ba-na-ba với mấy người đó, người ta nhứt định Phao-lô và Ba-na-ba với mấy người trong bọn kia đi lên thành Giê-ru-sa-lem, đến cùng các sứ đồ và trưởng lão đặng hỏi về việc nầy.

And when Paul and Barnabas had no small disagreement and discussion with them, it was decided that Paul and Barnabas and some of the others of their number should go up to Jerusalem with the apostles (special messengers) and the elders about this matter.

3 V ậy, sau khi các ngươi ấy được Hội thánh đưa đường rồi, thì trải qua xứ Phê-ni-xi và xứ Sa-ma-ri, thuật lại sự người ngoại trở về đạo, và như vậy làm cho anh em thay thảy được vui mừng lắm.

So, being fitted out and sent on their way by the church, they went through both Phoenicia and Samaria telling of the conversion of the Gentiles (the heathen), and they caused great rejoicing among all the brethren.

4 V ừa tới thành Giê-ru-sa-lem, được Hội thánh, các sứ đồ và trưởng lão tiếp rước, rồi thuật lại mọi điều Đức Chúa Trời đã cậy mình làm.

When they arrived in Jerusalem, they were heartily welcomed by the church and the apostles and the elders, and they told them all that God had accomplished through them.

5 N hưng có mấy kẻ về đảng Pha-ri-si đã tin đạo, đứng dậy nói rằng phải làm phép cắt bì cho những người ngoại, và truyền họ phải tuân theo luật pháp Môi-se.

But some who believed '> acknowledged Jesus as their Savior and devoted themselves to Him] belonged to the sect of the Pharisees, and they rose up and said, It is necessary to circumcise and to charge them to obey the Law of Moses.

6 C ác sứ đồ và các trưởng lão bèn họp lại để xem xét về việc đó.

The apostles and the elders were assembled together to look into and consider this matter.

7 S au một cuộc bàn luận dài rồi, Phi -e-rơ đứng dậy nói cùng chúng rằng: Hỡi anh em, hãy biết rằng từ lúc ban đầu, Đức Chúa Trời đã chọn tôi trong các anh em, để cho người ngoại được nghe Tin Lành bởi miệng tôi và tin theo.

And after there had been a long debate, Peter got up and said to them, Brethren, you know that quite a while ago God made a choice or selection from among you, that by my mouth the Gentiles should hear the message of the Gospel '> attainment through Christ of salvation in the kingdom of God] and believe (credit and place their confidence in it).

8 Đ ức Chúa Trời là Đấng biết lòng người, đã làm chứng cho người ngoại, mà ban Đức Thánh Linh cho họ cũng như cho chúng ta;

And God, Who is acquainted with and understands the heart, bore witness to them, giving them the Holy Spirit as He also did to us;

9 N gài chẳng phân biệt chúng ta với người ngoại đâu, vì đã lấy đức tin khiến cho lòng họ tinh sạch.

And He made no difference between us and them, but cleansed their hearts by faith ( by a strong and welcome conviction that Jesus is the Messiah, through Whom we obtain eternal salvation in the kingdom of God).

10 V ậy bây giờ, cớ sao anh em thử Đức Chúa Trời, gán cho môn đồ một cái ách mà tổ phụ chúng ta hoặc chính chúng ta cũng chưa từng mang nổi?

Now then, why do you try to test God by putting a yoke on the necks of the disciples, such as neither our forefathers nor we were able to endure?

11 T rái lại, chúng ta tin rằng nhờ ơn Đức Chúa Jêsus, chúng ta được cứu cũng như người ngoại vậy.

But we believe that we are saved through the grace (the undeserved favor and mercy) of the Lord Jesus, just as they.

12 C ả hội đồng đều lẳng lặng, nghe Ba-na-ba và Phao-lô thuật lại những phép lạ dấu kỳ mà Đức Chúa Trời đã cậy mình làm ra giữa người ngoại.

Then the whole assembly remained silent, and they listened as Barnabas and Paul rehearsed what signs and wonders God had performed through them among the Gentiles.

13 N ói xong, Gia-cơ cất tiếng lên rằng: Hỡi anh em, hãy nghe tôi!

When they had finished talking, James replied, Brethren, listen to me.

14 S i-môn có thuật thế nào lần thứ nhứt, Đức Chúa Trời đã đoái thương người ngoại, đặng từ đó lấy ra một dân để dâng cho danh Ngài.

Simeon has rehearsed how God first visited the Gentiles, to take out of them a people His name.

15 Đ iều đó phù hiệp với lời các đấng tiên tri, vì có chép rằng:

And with this the predictions of the prophets agree, as it is written,

16 R ồi đó, ta sẽ trở lại, Dựng lại đền tạm của vua Đa-vít bị đổ nát; Ta sẽ sửa sự hư nát đền đó lại Mà gây dựng lên;

After this I will come back, and will rebuild the house of David, which has fallen; I will rebuild its ruins, and I will set it up again,

17 H ầu cho những người sót lại Và mọi dân cầu khẩn danh ta đều tìm Chúa. Chúa là Đấng làm nên những việc nầy có phán như vậy;

So that the rest of men may seek the Lord, and all the Gentiles upon whom My name has been invoked,

18 t ừ trước vô cùng Ngài đã thông biết những việc đó.

Says the Lord, Who has been making these things known from the beginning of the world.

19 V ậy, theo ý tôi, thật chẳng nên khuấy rối những người ngoại trở về cùng Đức Chúa Trời;

Therefore it is my opinion that we should not put obstacles in the way of and annoy and disturb those of the Gentiles who turn to God,

20 s ong khá viết thơ dặn họ kiêng giữ cho khỏi sự ô uế của thần tượng, sự tà dâm, sự ăn thịt thú vật chết ngột và huyết.

But we should send word to them in writing to abstain from and avoid anything that has been polluted by being offered to idols, and all sexual impurity, and that have been strangled, and blood.

21 V ì trải bao nhiêu đời nay, trong mỗi thành vẫn có người giảng luật pháp Môi-se, bởi mọi ngày Sa-bát, trong các nhà hội người ta có đọc luật ấy.

For from ancient generations Moses has had his preachers in every town, for he is read every Sabbath in the synagogues.

22 K ế đó, các sứ đồ và trưởng lão cùng cả Hội thánh bèn quyết định sai những người được chọn ở nơi mình đi với Phao-lô và Ba-na-ba đến thành An-ti-ốt. Aáy là Giu-đe, cũng gọi là Ba-sa-ba, và Si-la, là hai người đứng đầu trong hàng anh em;

Then the apostles and the elders, together with the whole church, resolved to select men from among their number and send them to Antioch with Paul and Barnabas. They chose Judas called Barsabbas, and Silas, leading men among the brethren, and sent them.

23 r ồi giao cho hai người bức thơ như sau nầy: Các sứ đồ, trưởng lão và anh em gởi lời chào thăm anh em trong những người ngoại tại thành An-ti-ốt, trong xứ Sy-ri và xứ Si-li-si!

With the following letter: The brethren, both the apostles and the elders, to the brethren who are of the Gentiles in Antioch and Syria and Cilicia, greetings:

24 B ởi từng nghe có một vài người trong vòng chúng ta, chẳng lãnh mạng lịnh nào nơi chúng ta, tự lấy lời mình khuấy rối, và biến loạn lòng các ngươi nữa,

As we have heard that some persons from our number have disturbed you with their teaching, unsettling your minds and throwing you into confusion, although we gave them no express orders or instructions,

25 n ên chúng ta đồng lòng quyết ý chọn những người thay mặt sai đi cũng kẻ rất yêu dấu của chúng ta là Ba-na-ba và Phao-lô, mà đến nơi các ngươi;

It has been resolved by us in assembly to select men and send them to you with our beloved Barnabas and Paul,

26 h ai người nầy vốn đã liều thân vì danh Đức Chúa Jêsus Christ là Chúa chúng ta.

Men who have hazarded their lives for the sake of our Lord Jesus Christ.

27 V ậy chúng ta đã sai Giu-đe và Si-la đến, để nói miệng với anh em về việc đó:

So we have sent Judas and Silas, who themselves will bring you the same message by word of mouth.

28 ấ y là Đức Thánh Linh và chúng ta đã ưng rằng chẳng gán gánh nặng nào khác cho anh em ngoài những điều cần dùng,

For it has seemed good to the Holy Spirit and to us not to lay upon you any greater burden than these indispensable requirements:

29 t ức là anh em phải kiêng ăn của cúng thần tượng, huyết, thú vật chết ngột, và chớ tà dâm; ấy là mọi điều mà anh em khá kiêng giữ lấy vậy. Kính chúc bình an.

That you abstain from what has been sacrificed to idols and from blood and from that have been strangled and from sexual impurity. If you keep yourselves from these things, you will do well. Farewell!

30 V ậy, khi các người đó đã từ giã Hội thánh, xuống thành An-ti-ốt, nhóm hết thảy anh em lại và trao thơ cho.

So when were sent off, they went down to Antioch; and having assembled the congregation, they delivered the letter.

31 N gười ta đọc thơ, thảy đều mừng rỡ vì được lời yên ủi.

And when they read it, the people rejoiced at the consolation and encouragement.

32 G iu-đe và Si-la chính là kẻ tiên tri, cũng lấy nhiều lời giảng mà khuyên bảo, và giục lòng anh em mạnh mẽ.

And Judas and Silas, who were themselves prophets (inspired interpreters of the will and purposes of God), urged and warned and consoled and encouraged the brethren with many words and strengthened them.

33 K hỏi ít lâu, anh em chúc các người đó bình an mà cho về cùng những người đã sai đến.

And after spending some time there, they were sent back by the brethren with peace to those who had sent them.

34 N hưng mà Si-la thì quyết ở lại thành An-ti-ốt.

However, Silas decided to stay on there.

35 N hưng Phao-lô và Ba-na-ba ở lại tại thành An-ti-ốt, giảng Tin Lành và dạy đạo Chúa với nhiều người khác.

But Paul and Barnabas remained in Antioch and with many others also continued teaching and proclaiming the good news, the Word of the Lord '> attainment through Christ of eternal salvation in God’s kingdom].

36 S au ít lâu, Phao-lô nói với Ba-na-ba rằng: Chúng ta hãy trở lại thăm hết thảy anh em trong các thành mà chúng ta trước đã giảng đạo Chúa, xem thử ra thể nào.

And after some time Paul said to Barnabas, Come, let us go back and again visit and help and minister to the brethren in every town where we made known the message of the Lord, and see how they are getting along.

37 B a-na-ba muốn đem theo Giăng cũng gọi là Mác.

Now Barnabas wanted to take with them John called Mark.

38 N hưng Phao-lô không có ý đem Mác đi với, vì người đã lìa hai người trong xứ Bam-phi-ly, chẳng cùng đi làm việc với.

But Paul did not think it best to have along with them the one who had quit and deserted them in Pamphylia and had not gone on with them to the work.

39 N hơn đó có sự cãi lẫy nhau dữ dội, đến nỗi hai người phân rẽ nhau, và Ba-na-ba đem Mác cùng xuống thuyền vượt qua đảo Chíp-rơ.

And there followed a sharp disagreement between them, so that they separated from each other, and Barnabas took Mark with him and sailed away to Cyprus.

40 C òn Phao-lô sau khi đã chọn Si-la, và nhờ anh em giao phó mình cho ân điển Chúa, thì khởi đi.

But Paul selected Silas and set out, being commended by the brethren to the grace (the favor and mercy) of the Lord.

41 N gười trải qua xứ Sy-ri và xứ Si-li-si, làm cho các Hội thánh được vững bền.

And he passed through Syria and Cilicia, establishing and strengthening the churches.
