1 T a sẽ đứng nơi vọng canh, chôn chơn nơi đồn lũy, rình xem Ngài bảo ta điều gì, và ta trả lời thế nào về sự đối nại của ta.

I will stand upon my post of observation and station myself on the tower or fortress, and will watch to see what He will say within me and what answer I will make to the perplexities of my complaint against Him.

2 Đ ức Giê-hô-va đáp lại cũng ta mà rằng: Ngươi khá chép lấy sự hiện thấy, và rõ rệt nó ra trên bảng, hầu cho người đương chạy đọc được.

And the Lord answered me and said, Write the vision and engrave it so plainly upon tablets that everyone who passes may read as he hastens by.

3 V ì sự hiện thấy còn phải ứng nghiệm trong kỳ nhứt định, sau cùng nó sẽ kíp đến, không phỉnh dối đâu; nếu nó chậm trễ, ngươi hãy đợi; bởi nó chắc sẽ đến, không chậm trễ.

For the vision is yet for an appointed time and it hastens to the end; it will not deceive or disappoint. Though it tarry, wait for it, because it will surely come; it will not be behindhand on its appointed day.

4 N ầy, lòng người kiêu ngạo, không có sự ngay thẳng trong nó; song người công bình thì sống bởi đức tin mình.

Look at the proud; his soul is not straight or right within him, but the just and the righteous man shall live by his faith and in his faithfulness.

5 N ó ghiền rượu, làm sự dối trá, kiêu ngạo và chẳng ở yên chỗ mình, mở rộng lòng ham mê nó như âm phủ, như sự chết chẳng được no chán; nó thâu góp mọi nước và hội hiệp mọi dân cho mình.

Moreover, wine and wealth are treacherous; the proud man is restless and cannot stay at home. His appetite is large like that of Sheol and is like death and cannot be satisfied; he gathers to himself all nations and collects all people as if he owned them.

6 C hớ thì những kẻ đó há chẳng lấy thí dụ nhạo cười nó, lấy lời kín biếm nhẻ nó mà rằng: Khốn thay cho kẻ nhóm góp của chẳng thuộc về mình! Nó gánh vác của cầm rất nặng cho đến chừng nào?

Shall not all these take up a taunt against him and in scoffing derision of him say, Woe to him who piles up that which is not his! And who loads himself with promissory notes for usury!

7 H á chẳng sẽ có kẻ vụt dấy lên đặng cắn ngươi sao? Kẻ đuổi bắt ngươi há chẳng tỉnh thức sao? Ngươi sẽ bị nó cướp bóc.

Shall not rise up suddenly who shall bite you, exacting usury of you, and those awake who will vex you ? Then you will be booty for them.

8 V ì ngươi đã cướp nhiều nước, thì cả phần sót lại của các dân sẽ cướp ngươi, vì cớ huyết người ta, vì sự bạo ngược làm ra cho đất, cho thành, và cho hết thảy dân cư nó.

Because you have plundered many nations, all who are left of the people shall plunder you—because of men’s blood and for the violence done to the earth, to the city and all the people who live in each city.

9 K hốn thay cho kẻ tìm lợi bất nghĩa cho nhà mình, để lót ổ mình trong nơi cao, để được cứu khỏi tay hung ác.

Woe to him who obtains wicked gain for his house, to set his nest on high that he may be preserved from calamity and delivered from the power of evil!

10 N gươi đã dùng mưu xấu hổ cho nhà mình mà diệt nhiều dân tộc, ngươi đã phạm tội nghịch cùng linh hồn ngươi.

You have devised shame to your house by cutting off and putting an end to many peoples, and you have sinned against and forfeited your own life.

11 V ì đá trong vách sẽ kêu lên, rường trên mái sẽ đáp lại.

For the stone shall cry out of the wall, and the beam out of the woodwork will answer it.

12 K hốn thay cho kẻ lấy huyết dựng ấp, và lấy sự gian ác xây thành!

Woe to him who builds a town with blood and establishes a city by iniquity!

13 P hải, ấy há chẳng phải bởi Đức Giê-hô-va vạn quân mà các dân làm việc cho lửa, và các nước nhọc nhằn cho sự hư không hay sao?

Behold, is it not by appointment of the Lord of hosts that the nations toil only to satisfy the fire, and the peoples weary themselves only for emptiness, falsity, and futility?

14 V ì sự nhận biết vinh quang Đức Giê-hô-va sẽ đầy dẫy khắp đất như nước đầy tràn biển.

But the earth shall be filled with the knowledge of the glory of the Lord as the waters cover the sea.

15 K hốn thay cho kẻ pha đồ độc cho người lân cận mình uống, làm cho nó say, đặng xem sự lõa lồ nó!

Woe to him who gives his neighbors drink, who pours out your bottle to them and adds to it your poisonous and blighting wrath and also makes them drunk, that you may look on their stripped condition and pour out foul shame!

16 N gươi đầy sự sỉ nhục mà chẳng đầy sự vinh hiển. Ngươi cũng hãy uống đi, và làm như người chưa chịu phép cắt bì. Chén của Đức Giê-hô-va cầm trong tay hữu sẽ đến phiên trao cho ngươi, và sự nhuốc nha sẽ đổ ra trên sự vinh hiển ngươi.

You will be filled with shame and contempt instead of glory. Drink also and be like an uncircumcised! The cup in the Lord’s right hand will come around to you, and foul shame shall be upon your own glory!

17 V ì sự bạo ngược đã làm ra cho Li-ban sẽ che phủ ngươi, và sự tàn hại các loài thú làm cho nó kinh sợ, lại vì cớ huyết người ta, vì sự bạo ngược làm ra cho đất, cho thành, và cho hết thảy dân cư nó.

For the violence done to Lebanon will cover and overwhelm you; the destruction of the animals will terrify you on account of men’s blood and the violence done to the land, to the city and all its inhabitants.

18 T ượng chạm mà thợ đã chạm ra, có ích gì cho nó chăng? Tượng đúc, là thầy giả dối, thi có ích gì, mà người thợ làm thần tượng câm ấy lại tin cậy nơi việc mình làm ra?

What profit is the graven image when its maker has formed it? It is only a molten image and a teacher of lies. For the maker trusts in his own creations when he makes dumb idols.

19 K hốn tay cho kẻ nói với gỗ rằng: Hãy tỉnh thức! và với đá câm rằng: Hãy chổi dậy! Nó có dạy dỗ được chăng? nầy, nó là bọc vàng và bạc, song chẳng có một chút hơi thổ nào ở giữa nó.

Woe to him who says to the wooden image, Awake! and to the dumb stone, Arise, teach! behold, it is laid over with gold and silver and there is no breath at all inside it!

20 N hưng Đức Giê-hô-va ở trong đền thánh của Ngài, trước mặt Ngài, cả đất hãy làm thinh!

But the Lord is in His holy temple; let all the earth hush and keep silence before Him.
