A false balance and unrighteous dealings are extremely offensive and shamefully sinful to the Lord, but a just weight is His delight.

2 K hi kiêu ngạo đến, sỉ nhục cũng đến nữa; Nhưng sự khôn ngoan vẫn ở với người khiêm nhượng.

When swelling and pride come, then emptiness and shame come also, but with the humble (those who are lowly, who have been pruned or chiseled by trial, and renounce self) are skillful and godly Wisdom and soundness.

3 S ự thanh liêm của người ngay thẳng dẫn dắt họ; Còn sự gian tà của kẻ bất trung sẽ hủy diệt chúng nó.

The integrity of the upright shall guide them, but the willful contrariness and crookedness of the treacherous shall destroy them.

4 T rong ngày thạnh nộ, tài sản chẳng ích chi cả; Duy công bình giải cứu khỏi sự chết.

Riches provide no security in any day of wrath and judgment, but righteousness (uprightness and right standing with God) delivers from death.

5 S ự công bình của người trọn vẹn ban bằng đường lối người; Nhưng kẻ hung ác vì gian ác mình mà sa ngã.

The righteousness of the blameless shall rectify and make plain their way and keep it straight, but the wicked shall fall by their own wickedness.

6 S ự công bình của người ngay thẳng sẽ giải cứu họ; Song kẻ bất trung bị mắc trong sự gian ác của mình.

The righteousness of the upright shall deliver them, but the treacherous shall be taken in their own iniquity and greedy desire.

7 K hi kẻ ác chết, sự trông mong nó mất; Và sự trông đợi của kẻ cường bạo bị duyệt.

When the wicked man dies, his hope perishes; and the expectation of the godless comes to nothing.

8 N gười công bình được cứu khỏi hoạn nạn; Rồi kẻ hung ác sa vào đó thế cho người.

The righteous is delivered out of trouble, and the wicked gets into it instead.

9 K ẻ ác lấy lời nói mà làm tàn hại người lân cận mình; Còn các người công bình nhờ tri thức mà được cứu khỏi.

With his mouth the godless man destroys his neighbor, but through knowledge and superior discernment shall the righteous be delivered.

10 C ả thành đều vui vẻ về sự may mắn của người công bình; Nhưng khi kẻ ác bị hư mất, bèn có tiếng reo mừng.

When it goes well with the righteous, the city rejoices, but when the wicked perish, there are shouts of joy.

11 N hờ người ngay thẳng chúc phước cho, thành được cao trọng; Song tại miệng kẻ tà ác, nó bị đánh đổ.

By the blessing of the influence of the upright and God’s favor the city is exalted, but it is overthrown by the mouth of the wicked.

12 K ẻ nào khinh dể người lân cận mình thiếu trí hiểu; Nhưng người khôn sáng làm thinh.

He who belittles and despises his neighbor lacks sense, but a man of understanding keeps silent.

13 K ẻ đi thèo lẻo tỏ ra điều kín đáo; Còn ai có lòng trung tín giữ kín công việc.

He who goes about as a talebearer reveals secrets, but he who is trustworthy and faithful in spirit keeps the matter hidden.

14 D ân sự sa ngã tại không chánh trị; Song nếu có nhiều mưu sĩ, bèn được yên ổn.

Where no wise guidance is, the people fall, but in the multitude of counselors there is safety.

15 N gười nào bảo lãnh cho người ngoại, ắt bị hại; Nhưng ai ghét cuộc bảo lãnh, bèn được bình an vô sự.

He who becomes security for an outsider shall smart for it, but he who hates suretyship is secure.

16 N gười đờn bà có duyên được sự tôn trọng; Còn người đờn ông hung bạo được tài sản.

A gracious and good woman wins honor, and violent men win riches but a woman who hates righteousness is a throne of dishonor for him.

17 N gười nhơn từ làm lành cho linh hồn mình; Còn kẻ hung bạo xui khổ cực cho thịt mình.

The merciful, kind, and generous man benefits himself, but he who is cruel and callous brings on himself retribution.

18 K ẻ dữ ăn được công giá hư giả; Song ai gieo đều công bình hưởng phần thưởng chắc chắn.

The wicked man earns deceitful wages, but he who sows righteousness (moral and spiritual rectitude in every area and relation) shall have a sure reward.

19 N gười nào vững lòng ở công bình được đến sự sống; Còn kẻ săn theo ác gây sự chết cho mình.

He who is steadfast in righteousness (uprightness and right standing with God) attains to life, but he who pursues evil does it to his own death.

20 K ẻ có lòng gian tà lấy làm gớm ghiếc cho Đức Giê-hô-va; Nhưng ai có tánh hạnh trọn vẹn được đẹp lòng Ngài.

They who are willfully contrary in heart are extremely disgusting and shamefully vile in the eyes of the Lord, but such as are blameless and wholehearted in their ways are His delight!

21 Q uả thật kẻ gian ác chẳng hề khỏi bị hình phạt; Song dòng dõi người công bình sẽ được cứu khỏi.

Assuredly the wicked shall not go unpunished, but the multitude of the righteous shall be delivered.

22 M ột người đờn bà đẹp đẽ mà thiếu dẽ dặt, Khác nào một vòng vàng đeo nơi mũi heo.

As a ring of gold in a swine’s snout, so is a fair woman who is without discretion.

23 S ự ao ước của người công bình chỉ là điều thiện; Còn điều kẻ ác trông đợi, ấy là cơn thạnh nộ.

The desire of the righteous brings only good, but the expectation of the wicked brings wrath.

24 C ó người rải của mình ra, lại càng thêm nhiều lên; Cũng có người chắt lót quá bực, nhưng chỉ được sự thiếu thốn.

There are those who scatter abroad, and yet increase more; there are those who withhold more than is fitting or what is justly due, but it results only in want.

25 L òng rộng rãi sẽ được no nê; Còn ai nhuần gội, chính người sẽ được nhuần gội.

The liberal person shall be enriched, and he who waters shall himself be watered.

26 K ẻ nào cầm giữ lúa thóc, bị dân sự rủa sả; Song sự chúc phước sẽ giáng trên đầu người bán nó ra.

The people curse him who holds back grain, but a blessing is upon the head of him who sells it.

27 A i tìm cầu sự thiện, tìm kiếm ân điển; Nhưng ai tìm cầu điều ác, tất ác sẽ xảy đến cho nó.

He who diligently seeks good seeks favor, but he who searches after evil, it shall come upon him.

28 K ẻ nào tin cậy nơi của cải mình sẽ bị xiêu ngã; Còn người công bình được xanh tươi như lá cây.

He who leans on, trusts in, and is confident in his riches shall fall, but the righteous shall flourish like a green bough.

29 A i khuấy rối nhà mình sẽ được gió làm cơ nghiệp; Còn kẻ điên cuồng trở nên tôi tớ cho người có lòng khôn ngoan.

He who troubles his own house shall inherit the wind, and the foolish shall be servant to the wise of heart.

30 K ết quả của người công bình giống như cây sự sống; Người khôn ngoan có tài được linh hồn người ta.

The fruit of the righteous is a tree of life, and he who is wise captures human lives.

31 K ìa, người công bình được báo đáp nơi thế thượng; Phương chi kẻ hung ác và kẻ có tội!

Behold, the righteous shall be recompensed on earth; how much more the wicked and the sinner! And if the righteous are barely saved, what will become of the ungodly and wicked ?
