1 H ỡi dân sự ta, hãy lắng tai nghe luật pháp ta; Hãy nghiêng tai qua nghe lời của miệng ta.

Give ear, O my people, to my teaching; incline your ears to the words of my mouth.

2 T a sẽ mở miệng ra nói thí dụ, Bày ra những câu đố của đời xưa,

I will open my mouth in a parable (in instruction by numerous examples); I will utter dark sayings of old —

3 M à chúng ta đã nghe biết, Và tổ phụ chúng ta đã thuật lại cho chúng ta.

Which we have heard and known, and our fathers have told us.

4 C húng ta sẽ chẳng giấu các điều ấy cùng con cháu họ, Bèn sẽ thuật lại cho dòng dõi hậu lai những sự ngợi khen Đức Giê-hô-va, Quyền năng Ngài, và công việc lạ lùng mà Ngài đã làm.

We will not hide them from their children, but we will tell to the generation to come the praiseworthy deeds of the Lord, and His might, and the wonderful works that He has performed.

5 N gài đã lập chứng cớ nơi Gia-cốp, Định luật pháp trong Y-sơ-ra-ên, Truyền dặn tổ phụ chúng ta phải dạy nó lại cho con cháu mình;

For He established a testimony (an express precept) in Jacob and appointed a law in Israel, commanding our fathers that they should make known to their children,

6 H ầu cho dòng dõi hậu lai, tức là con cái sẽ sanh, Được biết những điều đó, Rồi phiên chúng nó truyền lại cho con cháu mình;

That the generation to come might know them, that the children still to be born might arise and recount them to their children,

7 H ầu cho chúng nó để lòng trông cậy nơi Đức Chúa Trời, Không hề quên các công việc Ngài, Song gìn giữ các điều răn của Ngài,

That they might set their hope in God and not forget the works of God, but might keep His commandments

8 Đ ể chúng nó chẳng như tổ phụ mình, Chẳng dọn lòng cho chánh-đáng, Có tâm thần không trung tín cùng Đức Chúa Trời.

And might not be as their fathers—a stubborn and rebellious generation, a generation that set not their hearts aright nor prepared their hearts to know God, and whose spirits were not steadfast and faithful to God.

9 C on cháu E

The children of Ephraim were armed and carrying bows, yet they turned back in the day of battle.

10 C húng nó không gìn giữ giao ước của Đức Chúa Trời, Cũng không chịu đi theo luật pháp Ngài,

They kept not the covenant of God and refused to walk according to His law

11 Q uên những việc làm của Ngài, Và các công tác lạ lùng mà Ngài đã tỏ cho chúng nó thấy.

And forgot His works and His wonders that He had shown them.

12 T ại trong xứ Ê-díp-tô, nơi đồng bằng Xô-an, Ngài làm những phép lạ trước mặt tổ phụ chúng nó.

Marvelous things did He in the sight of their fathers in the land of Egypt, in the field of Zoan.

13 N gài rẽ biển ra, làm cho họ đi ngang qua, Khiến nước dựng lên như một đống.

He divided the Sea and caused them to pass through it, and He made the waters stand like a heap.

14 N gài dẫn dắt họ, ban ngày bằng áng mây, Trọn đêm bằng ánh sáng lửa.

In the daytime also He led them with a cloud and all the night with a light of fire.

15 N gài bửa hòn đá ra trong đồng vắng, Ban cho họ uống nước nhiều như từ vực sâu ra.

He split rocks in the wilderness and gave them drink abundantly as out of the deep.

16 N gài cũng khiến suối từ hòn đá phun ra, Và làm cho nước chảy ra như sông.

He brought streams also out of the rock and caused waters to run down like rivers.

17 D ầu vậy, họ cứ phạm tội của Ngài, Phản nghịch cùng Đấng Chí cao trong đồng vắng.

Yet they still went on to sin against Him by provoking and rebelling against the Most High in the wilderness (in the land of drought).

18 T rong lòng họ thử Đức Chúa Trời, Mà cầu xin đồ ăn theo tình dục mình.

And they tempted God in their hearts by asking for food according to their desire and appetite.

19 H ọ nói nghịch cùng Đức Chúa Trời, Mà rằng: Đức Chúa Trời há có thể dọn bàn nơi đồng vắng sao?

Yes, they spoke against God; they said, Can God furnish a table in the wilderness?

20 K ìa, Ngài đã đập hòn đá, nước bèn phun ra, Dòng chảy tràn; Ngài há cũng có thể ban bánh sao? Ngài há sẽ sắm sửa thịt cho dân Ngài ư?

Behold, He did smite the rock so that waters gushed out and the streams overflowed; but can He give bread also? Can He provide flesh for His people?

21 V ì vậy Đức Giê-hô-va có nghe bèn nổi giận; Có lửa cháy nghịch cùng Gia-cốp, Sự giận nổi lên cùng Y-sơ-ra-ên;

Therefore, when the Lord heard, He was wrath; a fire was kindled against Jacob, His anger mounted up against Israel,

22 B ởi vì chúng nó không tin Đức Chúa Trời, Cùng chẳng nhờ cậy sự cứu rỗi của Ngài.

Because in God they believed not, and they trusted not in His salvation (His power to save).

23 D ầu vậy, Ngài khiến các từng mây trên cao, Và mở các cửa trên trời,

Yet He commanded the clouds above and opened the doors of heaven;

24 C ho mưa ma-na xuống trên họ đặng ăn, Và ban cho lúa mì từ trên trời.

And He rained down upon them manna to eat and gave them heaven’s grain.

25 N gười ta ăn bánh của kẻ mạnh dạn; Ngài gởi cho họ đồ ăn danh dự.

Everyone ate the bread of the mighty; God sent them meat in abundance.

26 N gài khiến gió đông thổi trên trời, Nhờ quyền năng mình Ngài dẫn gió nam.

He let forth the east wind to blow in the heavens, and by His power He guided the south wind.

27 N gài khiến mưa thịt trên chúng nó như bụi tro, Và chim có cánh cũng nhiều như cát biển;

He rained flesh also upon them like the dust, and winged birds like the sand of the seas.

28 N gài làm các vật đó sa xuống giữa trại quân, Khắp xung quanh nơi ở chúng nó.

And He let fall in the midst of their camp, round about their tents.

29 N hư vậy chúng nó ăn, được no nê chán lán, Ngài ban cho chúng nó điều chúng nó ước ao.

So they ate and were well filled; He gave them what they craved and lusted after.

30 C húng nó chưa xây khỏi điều mình ước ao, Vật thực hãy còn trong miệng chúng nó,

But scarce had they stilled their craving, and while their meat was yet in their mouths,

31 B èn có cơn giận của Đức Chúa Trời nổi lên cùng chúng nó, Giết những kẻ béo hơn hết, Đánh hạ những người trai trẻ của Y-sơ-ra-ên.

The wrath of God came upon them and slew the strongest and sturdiest of them and smote down Israel’s chosen youth.

32 M ặc dầu các sự ấy, chúng nó còn phạm tội, Không tin các công việc lạ lùng của Ngài.

In spite of all this, they sinned still more, for they believed not in (relied not on and adhered not to Him for) His wondrous works.

33 V ì cớ ấy Ngài làm cho các ngày chúng nó tan ra hư không, Dùng sự kinh khiếp làm tiêu các năm chúng nó.

Therefore their days He consumed like a breath and their years in terror and sudden haste.

34 K hi Ngài đánh giết chúng nó, chúng nó bèn cầu hỏi Ngài, Trở lại tìm cầu Đức Chúa Trời cách sốt sắng.

When He slew them, inquired after Him diligently, and they repented and sincerely sought God.

35 C húng nó bèn nhớ lại rằng Đức Chúa Trời là hòn đá của mình, Đức Chúa Trời Chí cao là Đấng cứu chuộc mình.

And they remembered that God was their Rock, and the Most High God their Redeemer.

36 N hưng chúng nó lấy miệng dua nịnh Ngài, Dùng lưỡi mình nói dối với Ngài.

Nevertheless they flattered Him with their mouths and lied to Him with their tongues.

37 V ì lòng chúng nó chẳng khắn khít cùng Ngài, Chúng nó cũng không trung tín trong sự giao ước Ngài.

For their hearts were not right or sincere with Him, neither were they faithful and steadfast to His covenant.

38 N hưng Ngài, vì lòng thương xót, tha tội ác cho, chẳng hủy diệt chúng nó: Thật, nhiều khi Ngài xây cơn giận Ngài khỏi, chẳng nổi giận đến cực kỳ.

But He, full of compassion, forgave their iniquity and destroyed them not; yes, many a time He turned His anger away and did not stir up all His wrath and indignation.

39 N gài nhớ lại chúng nó chẳng qua là xác thịt, Một hơi thở qua, rồi không trở lại.

For He remembered that they were but flesh, a wind that goes and does not return.

40 B iết mấy lần chúng nó phản nghịch cùng Ngài nơi đồng vắng, Và làm phiền Ngài trong chỗ vắng vẻ!

How often they defied and rebelled against Him in the wilderness and grieved Him in the desert!

41 C húng nó lại thử Đức Chúa Trời, Trêu chọc Đấng thánh của Y-sơ-ra-ên.

And time and again they turned back and tempted God, provoking and incensing the Holy One of Israel.

42 C húng nó không nhớ lại tay của Ngài, Hoặc ngày Ngài giải cứu chúng nó khỏi kẻ hà hiếp;

They remembered not His hand, nor the day when He delivered them from the enemy,

43 T hể nào Ngài đặt các dấu lạ mình tại Ê-díp-tô, Và những phép kỳ mình trong đồng Xô-an;

How He wrought His miracles in Egypt and His wonders in the field of Zoan

44 Đ ổi ra huyết các sông Và các dòng nước chúng nó, đến đỗi không thế uống được.

And turned their rivers into blood, and their streams, so that they could not drink from them.

45 N gài sai muỗi cắn nuốt họ, Và ếch làm hại chúng nó;

He sent swarms of flies among them which devoured them, and frogs which destroyed them.

46 C ũng phó hoa lợi chúng nó cho châu chấu, Nộp bông trái công lao họ cho cào cào.

He gave also their crops to the caterpillar and their labor to the locust.

47 N gài phá vườn nho chúng nó bằng mưa đá, Hủy cây sung họ bằng tuyết giá;

He destroyed their vines with hail and their sycamore trees with frost and ice.

48 C ũng phó trâu bò chúng nó cho mưa đá, Và nộp bầy chiên họ cho sấm sét.

He gave them up also to the hail and their flocks to hot thunderbolts.

49 N gài thả nghịch chúng nó cơn giận dữ Ngài, Sự thạnh nộ, sự nóng nả, và gian truân, Tức là một lũ sứ tai họa.

He let loose upon them the fierceness of His anger, His wrath and indignation and distress, by sending angels of calamity and woe among them.

50 N gài mở lối cho cơn giận Ngài, Chẳng dong thứ linh hồn họ khỏi chết, Bèn phó mạng sống chúng nó cho dịch hạch;

He leveled and made a straight path for His anger; He did not spare from death but gave their beasts over to the pestilence and the life over to the plague.

51 C ũng đánh giết mọi con đầu lòng trong Ê-díp-tô, Tức là cường-tráng sanh đầu ở trong các trại Cham.

He smote all the firstborn in Egypt, the chief of their strength in the tents of Ham.

52 Đ oạn Ngài đem dân sự Ngài ra như con chiên. Dẫn dắt họ trong đồng vắng như một bầy chiên.

But led His own people forth like sheep and guided them like a flock in the wilderness.

53 N gài dẫn chúng nó bình an vô sự, chúng nó chẳng sợ chi: Còn biển lấp lại những kẻ thù nghịch họ.

And He led them on safely and in confident trust, so that they feared not; but the sea overwhelmed their enemies.

54 N gài đưa họ đến bờ cõi thánh Ngài, Tức đến núi mà tay hữu Ngài đã được.

And He brought them to His holy border, the border of His sanctuary, even to this mountain which His right hand had acquired.

55 N gài cũng đuổi các dân khỏi trước mặt chúng nó, Bắt thăm và chia xứ làm sản nghiệp cho họ, Khiến các chi phái Y-sơ-ra-ên ở trong trại của các dân ấy.

He drove out the nations also before and allotted their land as a heritage, measured out and partitioned; and He made the tribes of Israel to dwell in the tents of those dispossessed.

56 D ầu vậy, chúng nó thử và phản nghịch Đức Chúa Trời Chí cao, Không giữ các chứng cớ của Ngài;

Yet they tempted and provoked and rebelled against the Most High God and kept not His testimonies.

57 N hưng trở lòng, ở bất trung như các tổ phụ mình: Chúng nó sịa như cây cung sai lệch.

But they turned back and dealt unfaithfully and treacherously like their fathers; they were twisted like a warped and deceitful bow.

58 N hơn vì các nơi cao, chúng nó chọc giận Ngài, Giục Ngài phân bì tại vì những tượng chạm.

For they provoked Him to anger with their high places and moved Him to jealousy with their graven images.

59 K hi Đức Chúa Trời nghe điều ấy, bèn nổi giận, Gớm ghiếc Y-sơ-ra-ên quá đỗi;

When God heard this, He was full of wrath; and He utterly rejected Israel, greatly abhorring and loathing,

60 Đ ến nỗi bỏ đền tạm tại Si-lô, Tức là trại Ngài đã dựng giữa loài người;

So that He forsook the tabernacle at Shiloh, the tent in which He had dwelt among men,

61 P hó sức lực Ngài bị dẫn tù, Và nộp vinh hiển Ngài vào tay cừu địch.

And delivered His strength and power (the ark of the covenant) into captivity, and His glory into the hands of the foe (the Philistines).

62 N gài cũng phó dân sự Ngài cho bị thanh gươm, Và nổi giận cùng cơ nghiệp mình.

He gave His people over also to the sword and was wroth with His heritage.

63 L ửa thiêu nuốt những gã trai trẻ họ, Còn các nữ đồng trinh không có ai hát nghinh thú.

The fire devoured their young men, and their bereaved virgins were not praised in a wedding song.

64 N hững thầy tế lễ họ bị gươm sa ngã, Song các người góa bụa không than khóc.

Their priests fell by the sword, and their widows made no lamentation.

65 B ấy giờ Chúa tỉnh thức như người khỏi giấc ngủ, Khác nào kẻ mạnh dạn reo la vì cớ rượu.

Then the Lord awakened as from sleep, as a strong man whose consciousness of power is heightened by wine.

66 N gài hãm đánh những kẻ cừu địch lui lại, Làm cho chúng nó bị sỉ nhục đời đời.

And He smote His adversaries in the back; He put them to lasting shame and reproach.

67 V ả lại, Ngài từ chối trại Giô-sép, Cũng chẳng chọn chi phái E

Moreover, He rejected the tent of Joseph and chose not the tribe of Ephraim.

68 B èn chọn chi phái Giu-đa, Là núi Si-ôn mà Ngài yêu mến.

But He chose the tribe of Judah, Mount Zion, which He loved.

69 N gài xây đền thánh Ngài giống như nơi rất cao, Khác nào trái đất mà Ngài đã sáng lập đời đời.

And He built His sanctuary like the heights and like the earth which He established forever.

70 N gài cũng chọn Đa-vít là tôi tớ Ngài, Bắt người từ các chuồng chiên:

He chose David His servant and took him from the sheepfolds;

71 N gài đem người khỏi bên các chiên cho bú, Đặng người chăn giữ Gia-cốp, là dân sự Ngài, Và Y-sơ-ra-ên, là cơ nghiệp Ngài.

From tending the ewes that had their young He brought him to be the shepherd of Jacob His people, of Israel His inheritance.

72 N hư vậy, người chăn giữ họ theo sự thanh liêm lòng người, Và lấy sự khôn khéo tay mình mà dẫn dắt họ.

So was their shepherd with an upright heart; he guided them by the discernment and skillfulness his hands.
