1 H ỡi anh em là kẻ giàu có! Hãy khóc lóc, kêu la, vì cớ hoạn nạn sẽ đổ trên anh em.

Come now, you rich, weep aloud and lament over the miseries (the woes) that are surely coming upon you.

2 C ủa cải anh em bị mục nát, áo xống bị mối mọt ăn rồi.

Your abundant wealth has rotted and is ruined, and your garments have become moth-eaten.

3 V àng bạc anh em bị ten rét, ten rét đó sẽ làm chứng nghịch cùng anh em, nó cũng như lửa vậy, sẽ ăn thịt anh em. Anh em đã thâu trử tiền của trong những ngày sau rốt!

Your gold and silver are completely rusted through, and their rust will be testimony against you and it will devour your flesh as if it were fire. You have heaped together treasure for the last days.

4 K ìa, tiền công con gặt gặt ruộng anh em, mà anh em đã ăn gian, nó kêu oan, và tiếng kêu của con gặt đã thấu đến tai Chúa các cơ binh.

look! the wages that you have withheld by fraud from the laborers who have reaped your fields, crying out; and the cries of the harvesters have come to the ears of the Lord of hosts.

5 A nh em đã sống trên thế gian ăn uống vui sướng và xa xỉ, anh em đã làm cho lòng mình no nê trong ngày chém giết;

on earth you have abandoned yourselves to soft (prodigal) living and to self-indulgence and self-gratification. You have fattened your hearts in a day of slaughter.

6 a nh em đã luận tội và đã giết người công bình, mà người chẳng cự lại.

You have condemned and have murdered the righteous (innocent man), he offers no resistance to you.

7 H ỡi anh em, vậy hãy nhịn nhục cho tới kỳ Chúa đến. Hãy xem kẻ làm ruộng: họ bền lòng chờ đợi sản vật quí báu dưới đất cho đến chừng nào đã được mưa đầu mùa và cuối mùa.

So be patient, brethren, till the coming of the Lord. See how the farmer waits expectantly for the precious harvest from the land. he keeps up his patient over it until it receives the early and late rains.

8 a nh em cũng vậy, hãy nhịn nhục và bền lòng; vì kỳ Chúa đến gần rồi.

So you also must be patient. Establish your hearts, for the coming of the Lord is very near.

9 H ỡi anh em, chớ oán trách nhau, hầu cho khỏi bị xét đoán; kìa, Đấng xét đoán đứng trước cửa.

Do not complain, brethren, against one another, so that you may not be judged. Look! The Judge is standing at the very door.

10 H ỡi anh em, hãy lấy các đấng tiên tri đã nhơn danh Chúa mà nói, làm mẫu mực về sự chịu khổ và nhịn nhục cho mình.

an example of suffering and ill-treatment together with patience, brethren, take the prophets who spoke in the name of the Lord.

11 A nh em biết rằng những kẻ nhịn nhục chịu khổ thì chúng ta xưng là có phước. Anh em đã nghe nói về sự nhịn nhục của Gióp, và thấy cái kết cuộc mà Chúa ban cho người; vì Chúa đầy lòng thương xót và nhơn từ.

You know how we call those blessed (happy) who were steadfast. You have heard of the endurance of Job, and you have seen the Lord’s end, inasmuch as the Lord is full of pity and compassion and tenderness and mercy.

12 H ỡi Anh em, trước hết chớ có thề, chớ chỉ trời, chỉ đất, cũng chớ chỉ vật khác mà thề; nhưng phải thì nói phải, không thì nói không, hầu cho khỏi bị xét đoán.

But above all, my brethren, do not swear, either by heaven or by earth or by any other oath; but let your yes be yes, and your no be no, so that you may not sin and fall under condemnation.

13 T rong anh em có ai chịu khổ chăng? Người ấy hãy cầu nguyện. Có ai vui mừng chăng? hãy hát ngợi khen.

Is anyone among you afflicted (ill-treated, suffering evil)? He should pray. Is anyone glad at heart? He should sing praise.

14 T rong anh em có ai đau ốm chăng? hãy mời các trưởng lão hội thánh đến, sau khi nhơn danh Chúa xức dầu cho người bịnh đoạn, thì các trưởng lão hãy cầu nguyện cho người.

Is anyone among you sick? He should call in the church elders (the spiritual guides). And they should pray over him, anointing him with oil in the Lord’s name.

15 S ự cầu nguyện bởi đức tin sẽ cứu kẻ bịnh, Chúa sẽ đỡ kẻ ấy dậy; nếu kẻ bịnh có phạm tội, cũng sẽ được tha.

And the prayer of faith will save him who is sick, and the Lord will restore him; and if he has committed sins, he will be forgiven.

16 V ậy, hãy xưng tội cùng nhau, và cầu nguyện cho nhau, hầu cho anh em được lành bịnh: người công bình lấy lòng sốt sắng cầu nguyện, thật có linh nghiệm nhiều.

Confess to one another therefore your faults (your slips, your false steps, your offenses, your sins) and pray for one another, that you may be healed and restored. The earnest (heartfelt, continued) prayer of a righteous man makes tremendous power available.

17 Ê -li vốn là người yếu đuối như chúng ta. Người cầu nguyện, cố xin cho đừng mưa, thì không mưa xuống đất trong ba năm rưỡi.

Elijah was a human being with a nature such as we have; and he prayed earnestly for it not to rain, and no rain fell on the earth for three years and six months.

18 Đ oạn, người cầu nguyện lại, trời bèn mưa, và đất sanh sản hoa màu.

And he prayed again and the heavens supplied rain and the land produced its crops.

19 H ỡi anh em, trong vòng anh em nếu có ai lầm lạc cách xa lẽ thật, mà có người khác làm cho nó trở lại,

brethren, if anyone among you strays from the Truth and falls into error and another brings him back,

20 t hì phải biết rằng kẻ làm cho người có tội trở lại, bỏ đường lầm lạc, ấy là cứu linh hồn người khỏi sự chết và che đậy vô số tội lỗi.

Let the one be sure that whoever turns a sinner from his evil course will save soul from death and will cover a multitude of sins '> procure the pardon of the many sins committed by the convert].
