1 C ác sứ đồ và anh em ở xứ Giu-đê nghe tin người ngoại cũng đã nhận lấy đạo Đức Chúa Trời.

Now the apostles (special messengers) and the brethren who were throughout Judea heard that the Gentiles (heathen) also had received and accepted and welcomed the Word of God.

2 K hi Phi -e-rơ đã trở lên thành Giê-ru-sa-lem, có người tín đồ vốn chịu phép cắt bì trách móc người,

So when Peter went up to Jerusalem, the circumcision party found fault with him,

3 r ằng: Ngươi đã vào nhà kẻ chưa chịu phép cắt-bì, và ăn chung với họ!

Saying, Why did you go to uncircumcised men and eat with them?

4 N hưng Phi -e-rơ đem mọi sự đã qua thuật cho họ theo thứ tự và từng điều,

But Peter began and narrated and explained to them step by step. He said:

5 r ằng: Ta đương cầu nguyện trong thành Giốp-bê, lúc đó ta bị ngất trí đi, thấy sự hiện thấy: có vật gì giống như cái khăn lớn, níu bốn chéo lên, từ trên trời sa xuống đến tận ta.

I was in the town of Joppa praying, and in a trance I saw a vision of something coming down from heaven, like a huge sheet lowered by the four corners; and it descended until it came to me.

6 T a xem xét kỹ càng, thấy trong đó có các loài thú bốn cẳng trên đất, các thú rừng, các côn trùng và các loài chim trên trời.

Gazing intently and closely at it, I observed in it four-footed animals and wild beasts and reptiles of the earth and birds of the air,

7 T a lại nghe có tiếng phán rằng: Hỡi Phi -e-rơ, hãy chờ dậy, giết thịt và ăn.

And I heard a voice saying to me, Get up, Peter; kill and eat.

8 T a thưa rằng: Lạy Chúa, chẳng vậy; vì không bao giờ có vật chi dơ dáy hay chẳng sạch vào miệng tôi đâu.

But I said, No, by no means, Lord; for nothing common or unhallowed or unclean has ever entered my mouth.

9 T iếng từ trời phán cùng ta lần thứ hai mà rằng: Chớ coi điều Chúa đã làm cho tinh sạch như là dơ dáy.

But the voice answered a second time from heaven, What God has cleansed and pronounced clean, do not you defile and profane by regarding or calling it common or unhallowed or unclean.

10 L ời đó lặp lại ba lần, đoạn, thay thảy đều thâu lại lên trời.

This occurred three times, and then all was drawn up again into heaven.

11 K ìa, cũng một lúc đó, ba người ở thành Sê-sa-rê chịu sai đến cùng ta, đã tới tận cửa nhà ta ở.

And right then the three men sent to me from Caesarea arrived at the house in which we were.

12 Đ ức Thánh Linh truyền cho ta phải đi với ba người ấy, đừng nghi ngại gì. Nầy, sáu người anh em đây đồng đi với ta, và chúng ta đều vào trong nhà Cọt-nây.

And the Spirit instructed me to accompany them without hesitation or misgivings or discrimination. So these six brethren accompanied me also, and we went into the man’s house.

13 N gười nầy thuật lại cho ta thể nào tại nhà mình đã thấy một thiên sứ hiện đến và phán rằng: Hãy sai tới thành Giốp-bê, mời Si-môn cũng gọi là Phi -e-rơ đến đây.

And he related to us how he had seen the angel in his house which stood and said to him, Send men to Joppa and bring Simon who is surnamed Peter;

14 N gười ấy sẽ nói cho ngươi những lời, mà nhờ đó ngươi và cả nhà mình sẽ được cứu rỗi.

He will give and explain to you a message by means of which you and all your household will be saved '> from eternal death].

15 T a mới khởi sự nói, thì có Đức Thánh Linh giáng trên họ, cũng như ban đầu Ngài đã giáng trên chúng ta.

When I began to speak, the Holy Spirit fell on them just as He did on us at the beginning.

16 T a bèn nhớ lại lời Chúa đã truyền rằng: Giăng đã làm phép báp-tem bằng nước; nhưng các ngươi sẽ chịu phép báp-tem bằng Đức Thánh Linh.

Then I recalled the declaration of the Lord, how He said, John indeed baptized with water, but you shall be baptized with ( be placed in, introduced into) the Holy Spirit.

17 V ậy, nếu Đức Chúa Trời đã ban cho họ cũng một ơn như cho chúng ta, là kẻ đã tin đến Đức Chúa Jêsus Christ, thì ta là ai, mà ngăn trở Đức Chúa Trời được?

If then God gave to them the same Gift as He gave to us when we believed in (adhered to, trusted in, and relied on) the Lord Jesus Christ, who was I and what power or authority had I to interfere or hinder or forbid or withstand God?

18 T ín đồ nghe bấy nhiêu lời xong, đều thỏa thuận và ngợi khen Đức Chúa Trời, rằng: Vậy Đức Chúa Trời cũng đã ban sự ăn năn cho người ngoại để họ được sự sống!

When they heard this, they were quieted and made no further objection. And they glorified God, saying, Then God has also granted to the Gentiles repentance unto life.

19 N hững kẻ bị tan lạc bởi sự bắt bớ xảy đến về dịp Ê-tiên, bèn đi đến xứ Phê-ni-xi, đảo Chíp-rơ và thành An-ti-ốt, chỉ giảng đạo cho người Giu-đa thôi.

Meanwhile those who were scattered because of the persecution that arose in connection with Stephen had traveled as far away as Phoenicia and Cyprus and Antioch, without delivering the message '> the attainment through Christ of salvation in the kingdom of God] to anyone except Jews.

20 N hưng trong đám những người ấy có một vài người quê ở Chíp-rơ và Sy-ren đến thành An-ti-ốt, cũng giảng dạy cho người Gờ-réc nữa, truyền Tin Lành của Đức Chúa Jêsus cho họ.

But there were some of them, men of Cyprus and Cyrene, who on returning to Antioch spoke to the Greeks also, proclaiming the good news (the Gospel) about the Lord Jesus.

21 T ay Chúa ở cùng mấy người đó, nên số người tin và trở lại cùng Chúa rất nhiều.

And the presence of the Lord was with them with power, so that a great number to believe (to adhere to and trust in and rely on the Lord) and turned and surrendered themselves to Him.

22 T iếng đồn thấu tai Hội thánh Giê-ru-sa-lem, hội bèn sai Ba-na-ba sang đến thành An-ti-ốt.

The rumors of this came to the ears of the church (assembly) in Jerusalem, and they sent Barnabas to Antioch.

23 K hi người đến nơi và thấy ơn Đức Chúa Trời, bèn vui mừng và khuyên mọi người phải cứ vững lòng theo Chúa;

When he arrived and saw what grace (favor) God was bestowing upon them, he was full of joy; and he continuously exhorted (warned, urged, and encouraged) them all to cleave unto and remain faithful to and devoted to the Lord with purpose of heart.

24 v ì Ba-na-ba thật là người lành, đầy dẫy Thánh Linh và đức tin. Bấy giờ rất đông người tin theo Chúa.

For he was a good man '> good in himself and also at once for the good and the advantage of other people], full of and controlled by the Holy Spirit and full of faith (of his belief that Jesus is the Messiah, through Whom we obtain eternal salvation). And a large company was added to the Lord.

25 K ế đó, Ba-na-ba đi đến thành Tạt-sơ, để tìm Sau-lơ,

went on to Tarsus to hunt for Saul.

26 t ìm gặp rồi, bèn đưa đến thành An-ti-ốt. Trọn một năm, hai người cùng nhóm với Hội-thánh và dạy dỗ nhiều người. Aáy là ở thành An-ti-ốt, người ta bắt đầu xưng môn đồ là Cơ-rê-tiên.

And when he had found him, he brought him back to Antioch. For a whole year they assembled together with and were guests of the church and instructed a large number of people; and in Antioch the disciples were first called Christians.

27 T rong những ngày đó, có mấy người tiên tri từ thành Giê-ru-sa-lem xuống thành An-ti-ốt.

And during these days prophets (inspired teachers and interpreters of the divine will and purpose) came down from Jerusalem to Antioch.

28 T rong bọn có một người tên là A-ga-bút đứng dậy, bởi Đức Thánh Linh nói tiên tri rằng sẽ có sự đói kém trên khắp đất; thật vậy, sự đói kém nầy xảy đến trong đời Cơ-lốt trị vì.

And one of them named Agabus stood up and prophesied through the Spirit that a great and severe famine would come upon the whole world. And this did occur during the reign of Claudius.

29 C ác môn đồ bèn định, mỗi người tùy sức riêng mình, gởi một món tiền bố thí cho anh em ở trong xứ Giu-đê;

So the disciples resolved to send relief, each according to his individual ability, to the brethren who lived in Judea.

30 m ôn đồ cũng làm thành việc đó, nhờ tay Ba-na-ba và Sau-lơ, gởi tiền ấy cho các trưởng lão.

And so they did, sending to the elders by the hand of Barnabas and Saul.
