1 O r gli apostoli e i fratelli che erano in Giudea vennero a sapere che anche i gentili avevano ricevuto la parola di Dio.

Now the apostles (special messengers) and the brethren who were throughout Judea heard that the Gentiles (heathen) also had received and accepted and welcomed the Word of God.

2 E , quando Pietro salí a Gerusalemme, quelli che erano circoncisi contendevano con lui

So when Peter went up to Jerusalem, the circumcision party found fault with him,

3 d icendo: «Tu sei entrato in casa di uomini incirconcisi e hai mangiato con loro!».

Saying, Why did you go to uncircumcised men and eat with them?

4 M a Pietro cominciando dall'inizio, spiegò loro per ordine come si erano svolti i fatti dicendo:

But Peter began and narrated and explained to them step by step. He said:

5 « Io stavo pregando nella città di Ioppe, quando fui rapito in estasi ed ebbi una visione: un oggetto, simile a un gran lenzuolo tenuto per i quattro capi, scendeva come se fosse calato giú dal cielo e giunse fino a me.

I was in the town of Joppa praying, and in a trance I saw a vision of something coming down from heaven, like a huge sheet lowered by the four corners; and it descended until it came to me.

6 G uardandovi attentamente dentro scorsi e vidi quadrupedi, fiere, rettili della terra e uccelli del cielo.

Gazing intently and closely at it, I observed in it four-footed animals and wild beasts and reptiles of the earth and birds of the air,

7 E udii una voce che mi diceva: "Pietro, alzati, ammazza e mangia".

And I heard a voice saying to me, Get up, Peter; kill and eat.

8 M a io dissi: "Niente affatto, Signore, poiché non mi è mai entrato in bocca nulla di impuro o di contaminato".

But I said, No, by no means, Lord; for nothing common or unhallowed or unclean has ever entered my mouth.

9 M a la voce mi rispose per la seconda volta dal cielo: "Le cose che Dio ha purificato, non farle tu impure".

But the voice answered a second time from heaven, What God has cleansed and pronounced clean, do not you defile and profane by regarding or calling it common or unhallowed or unclean.

10 E ciò accadde per tre volte, poi ogni cosa fu di nuovo ritirata in cielo.

This occurred three times, and then all was drawn up again into heaven.

11 I n quello stesso momento tre uomini, mandati a me da Cesarea, si presentarono alla casa dove mi trovavo.

And right then the three men sent to me from Caesarea arrived at the house in which we were.

12 E lo Spirito mi disse di andare con loro, senza avere alcuna esitazione. Or con me vennero anche questi sei fratelli, e cosí entrammo nella casa di quell'uomo.

And the Spirit instructed me to accompany them without hesitation or misgivings or discrimination. So these six brethren accompanied me also, and we went into the man’s house.

13 E gli ci raccontò come aveva visto presentarsi un angelo in casa sua e dirgli: "Manda degli uomini a Ioppe e fa' chiamare Simone, soprannominato Pietro.

And he related to us how he had seen the angel in his house which stood and said to him, Send men to Joppa and bring Simon who is surnamed Peter;

14 E gli ti dirà parole, per mezzo delle quali sarai salvato tu e tutta la tua casa".

He will give and explain to you a message by means of which you and all your household will be saved '> from eternal death].

15 A vevo appena cominciato a parlare quando lo Spirito Santo discese su di loro, come era sceso al principio su di noi.

When I began to speak, the Holy Spirit fell on them just as He did on us at the beginning.

16 M i ricordai allora della parola del Signore che diceva: "Giovanni ha battezzato con acqua, ma voi sarete battezzati con lo Spirito Santo".

Then I recalled the declaration of the Lord, how He said, John indeed baptized with water, but you shall be baptized with ( be placed in, introduced into) the Holy Spirit.

17 S e dunque Dio ha dato loro lo stesso dono che abbiamo ricevuto noi, che abbiamo creduto nel Signore Gesú Cristo, chi ero io da potermi opporre a Dio?».

If then God gave to them the same Gift as He gave to us when we believed in (adhered to, trusted in, and relied on) the Lord Jesus Christ, who was I and what power or authority had I to interfere or hinder or forbid or withstand God?

18 U dite queste cose, essi si calmarono e glorificavano Dio, dicendo: «Dio dunque ha concesso il ravvedimento anche ai gentili per ottenere la vita!».

When they heard this, they were quieted and made no further objection. And they glorified God, saying, Then God has also granted to the Gentiles repentance unto life.

19 O r coloro che erano stati dispersi a motivo della persecuzione iniziata con Stefano, arrivarono fino alla Fenicia, a Cipro e ad Antiochia, annunziando la parola a nessun altro, se non ai soli Giudei.

Meanwhile those who were scattered because of the persecution that arose in connection with Stephen had traveled as far away as Phoenicia and Cyprus and Antioch, without delivering the message '> the attainment through Christ of salvation in the kingdom of God] to anyone except Jews.

20 O r alcuni di loro originari di Cipro e di Cirene, arrivati ad Antiochia, iniziarono a parlare ai Greci, annunziando il Signore Gesú.

But there were some of them, men of Cyprus and Cyrene, who on returning to Antioch spoke to the Greeks also, proclaiming the good news (the Gospel) about the Lord Jesus.

21 E la mano del Signore era con loro; e un gran numero credette e si convertí al Signore.

And the presence of the Lord was with them with power, so that a great number to believe (to adhere to and trust in and rely on the Lord) and turned and surrendered themselves to Him.

22 L a notizia di questo pervenne agli orecchi della chiesa che era in Gerusalemme; ed essi inviarono Barnaba, perché andasse fino ad Antiochia.

The rumors of this came to the ears of the church (assembly) in Jerusalem, and they sent Barnabas to Antioch.

23 Q uando egli giunse, vista la grazia di Dio, si rallegrò e esortava tutti a rimanere fedeli al Signore con fermo proponimento di cuore,

When he arrived and saw what grace (favor) God was bestowing upon them, he was full of joy; and he continuously exhorted (warned, urged, and encouraged) them all to cleave unto and remain faithful to and devoted to the Lord with purpose of heart.

24 p erché egli era un uomo dabbene, pieno di Spirito Santo e di fede. E un gran numero di persone fu aggiunto al Signore.

For he was a good man '> good in himself and also at once for the good and the advantage of other people], full of and controlled by the Holy Spirit and full of faith (of his belief that Jesus is the Messiah, through Whom we obtain eternal salvation). And a large company was added to the Lord.

25 P oi Barnaba partí per andare a Tarso in cerca di Saulo e, trovatolo, lo condusse ad Antiochia.

went on to Tarsus to hunt for Saul.

26 E per un anno intero essi si radunarono con la chiesa e ammaestrarono un gran numero di gente; e, per la prima volta ad Antiochia, i discepoli furono chiamati Cristiani.

And when he had found him, he brought him back to Antioch. For a whole year they assembled together with and were guests of the church and instructed a large number of people; and in Antioch the disciples were first called Christians.

27 I n quei giorni, alcuni profeti scesero da Gerusalemme ad Antiochia.

And during these days prophets (inspired teachers and interpreters of the divine will and purpose) came down from Jerusalem to Antioch.

28 E uno di loro, di nome Agabo, si alzò e per lo Spirito predisse che ci sarebbe stata una grande carestia in tutto il mondo; e questa avvenne poi sotto Claudio Cesare.

And one of them named Agabus stood up and prophesied through the Spirit that a great and severe famine would come upon the whole world. And this did occur during the reign of Claudius.

29 A llora i discepoli, ciascuno secondo le proprie possibilità, decisero di mandare una sovvenzione ai fratelli che abitavano in Giudea.

So the disciples resolved to send relief, each according to his individual ability, to the brethren who lived in Judea.

30 E questo essi fecero, inviandola agli anziani per mezzo di Barnaba e di Saulo.

And so they did, sending to the elders by the hand of Barnabas and Saul.
