1 ( 021-6) La parola dell'Eterno mi fu ancora rivolta, dicendo:

And the word of the Lord came to me, saying,

2 ( 021-7) «Figlio d'uomo, rivolgi la faccia verso Gerusalemme, parla apertamente contro i luoghi santi e profetizza contro il paese d'Israele;

Son of man, set your face toward Jerusalem and direct your word against the holy places; prophesy against the land of Israel

3 ( 021-8) e di' al paese d'Israele: Cosí dice l'Eterno: Ecco io sono contro di te. Io estrarrò la mia spada dal suo fodero e reciderò da te giusti e malvagi.

And say to the land of Israel, Thus says the Lord: Behold, I am against you and will draw forth My sword out of its sheath and will cut off from you both the righteous and the wicked.

4 ( 021-9) Poiché voglio recidere da te giusti e malvagi, la mia spada uscirà dal suo fodero contro ogni carne dal sud al nord.

Because I will cut off from you both the righteous and the wicked, therefore shall My sword go out of its sheath against all flesh from the south to the north,

5 ( 021-10) Cosí ogni carne riconoscerà che io l'Eterno, ho estratto la mia spada dal suo fodero e non vi rientrerà piú.

And all living shall know, understand, and realize that I the Lord have drawn My sword out of its sheath; it shall not be sheathed any more.

6 ( 021-11) Perciò tu, figlio d'uomo, gemi con i lombi rotti e gemi con dolore davanti ai loro occhi.

Sigh therefore, son of man! With breaking heart and with bitterness shall you sigh before their eyes.

7 ( 021-12) E avverrà che quando ti domanderanno: "Perché gemi?" risponderai: "Per la notizia che sta per giungere ogni cuore si struggerà, tutte le mani s'indeboliranno, tutti gli spiriti verranno meno e tutte le ginocchia si scioglieranno come acqua". Ecco la cosa giunge e si compirà», dice il Signore, l'Eterno.

And it shall be that when they say to you, Why do you sigh? that you shall answer, Because of the tidings. When it comes, every heart will melt and all hands will be feeble, and every spirit will faint and all knees will be weak as water. Behold, it comes and it shall be fulfilled, says the Lord God.

8 ( 021-13) La parola dell'Eterno mi fu nuovamente rivolta, dicendo:

Again the word of the Lord came to me, saying,

9 ( 021-14) «Figlio d'uomo, profetizza e di Cosí dice il Signore. Di Una spada, una spada è affilata e anche lucidata.

Son of man, prophesy and say, Thus says the Lord: Say, A sword, a sword is sharpened and also polished;

10 ( 021-15) affilata per fare un gran massacro e affilata per lampeggiare. Potremo forse rallegrarci? Voi disprezzate lo scettro di mio figlio come se fosse un qualsiasi legno.

It is sharpened that it may make a slaughter, polished that it may flash and glitter like lightning! Shall we then rejoice and make mirth ? But the rod or scepter of My son rejects and views with contempt every tree!

11 ( 021-16) Il Signore l'ha data a lucidare per impugnarla, la spada è affilata e lucidata per darla in mano di chi uccide.

And the sword is given to be polished that it may be put to use; the sword is sharpened and polished to be given into the hand of the slayer.

12 ( 021-17) Grida e urla, figlio d'uomo, perché sarà usata contro il mio popolo, contro tutti i principi d'Israele, essi saranno consegnati in potere della spada insieme al mio popolo. Perciò percuotiti la coscia,

Cry and wail, son of man, for it is against My people; it is against all the princes of Israel; they are thrown to the sword along with My people, and terrors by reason of the sword are upon My people. Therefore smite your thigh.

13 ( 021-18) perché è una prova. Che cosa accadrebbe se non ci fosse piú neppure lo scettro sprezzante?», dice il Signore, l'Eterno.

For this sword has been tested and proved, and what if the rejecting and despising rod or scepter of Judah shall be no more but completely swept away? says the Lord God.

14 ( 021-19) «Perciò tu, figlio d'uomo, profetizza e batti le mani, lascia che la spada raddoppi e triplichi i suoi colpi: è la spada del massacro, è la spada del grande massacro, che li circonda da ogni lato.

Therefore, son of man, prophesy and smite your hands together and let the sword be doubled, yes, trebled in intensity—the sword for those to be overthrown and pierced through; it is the sword of great slaughter which encompasses them.

15 ( 021-20) Ho rivolto la punta della spada contro tutte le loro porte perché il loro cuore si strugga e molti cadano. Ah è fatta per brillare, è affilata per il massacro.

I have set the threatening and glittering sword against all their gates, that their hearts may melt and their stumblings be multiplied. Ah! It is made like lightning; it is pointed and sharpened for slaughter.

16 ( 021-21) Spada, sii spietata, volgiti a destra volgiti a sinistra, ovunque è diretta la tua lama.

Turn and cut right or cut left, whichever way your lust for blood and your edge direct you.

17 ( 021-22) Anch'io batterò le mani e sfogherò il mio furore. Io, l'Eterno, ho parlato».

I will also clap My hands, and I will cause My wrath to rest. I the Lord have said it.

18 ( 021-23) La parola dell'Eterno mi fu ancora rivolta, dicendo:

The word of the Lord came to me again, saying,

19 ( 021-24) «Tu, figlio d'uomo, traccia due strade, per le quali passi la spada del re di Babilonia, partiranno ambedue dallo stesso paese. Metti un indicatore stradale, mettilo all'inizio della strada che porta alla città.

Also, son of man, mark out two ways by which the sword of the king of Babylon may come; both shall come forth from the same land. And make a signpost (a hand); make it at the head of the way to a city.

20 ( 021-25) Traccia una strada per la quale la spada vada a Rabbah, città dei figli di Ammon, e un'altra perché vada in Giuda, contro Gerusalemme, città fortificata.

You shall point out a way for the sword to come to Rabbah of the sons of Ammon and to Judah with Jerusalem, the fortified and inaccessible.

21 ( 021-26) Infatti il re di Babilonia sta al crocevia della strada, all'inizio delle due strade, per fare divinazione: agita le frecce, consulta gli idoli domestici, esamina il fegato.

For the king of Babylon stands at the parting of the way, at the fork of the two ways, to use divination. He shakes the arrows to and fro, he consults the teraphim (household gods), he looks at the liver.

22 ( 021-27) Nella sua destra il responso della divinazione designa Gerusalemme per collocarvi gli arieti, per aprire la bocca e ordinare il massacro, per alzar la voce con grida di guerra, per collocare gli arieti contro le porte, per innalzare terrapieni e per costruire torri,

In his right hand is the lot marked for Jerusalem: to set battering rams, to open the mouth calling for slaughter, to lift up the voice with a war cry, to set battering rams against the gates, to cast up siege mounds, and to build siege towers.

23 ( 021-28) Ma per essi questo sarà come una falsa divinazione agli occhi di quelli che hanno fatto loro giuramenti. Ma egli si ricorderà della loro iniquità, perché siano presi».

And it shall seem like a lying divination to them who have sworn oaths. But he will remind them of their guilt and iniquity, that they may be caught.

24 ( 021-29) Perciò cosí dice il Signore, l'Eterno: «Poiché avete fatto ricordare la vostra iniquità, essendo le vostre trasgressioni messe a nudo e i vostri peccati palesati in tutte le vostre azioni; poiché siete stati ricordati, sarete presi dalla mano del nemico.

Therefore thus says the Lord God: Because you have made your guilt and iniquity to be remembered, in that your transgressions are uncovered, so that in all your doings your sins appear—because, I say, you have come to remembrance, you shall be taken with the hand.

25 ( 021-30) E tu, o corrotto e malvagio principe d'Israele, il cui giorno è giunto al tempo della punizione finale»

And you, O dishonored and wicked one, the prince of Israel, whose day will come at the time of your final reckoning and punishment,

26 ( 021-31) cosi dice il Signore, l'Eterno: «Deponi il turbante, togliti la corona; le cose non saranno piú le stesse: ciò che è basso sarà innalzato e ciò che è alto sarà abbassato.

Thus says the Lord God: Remove the miter or headband and take off the crown; things shall not remain as they have been; the low is to be exalted and the high is to be brought low.

27 ( 021-32) Devastazione, devastazione, io la compirò. Ed essa non sarà piú restaurata, finché non verrà colui a cui appartiene il giudizio e al quale io la darò.

I will overthrow, overthrow, overthrow it; this also shall be no more until He comes Whose right it is, and I will give it to Him.

28 ( 021-33) E tu, figlio d'uomo, profetizza e di Cosí dice il Signore, l'Eterno, riguardo ai figli di Ammon a e riguardo al loro obbrobrio e di' la spada, la spada è sguainata, è lucidata per il massacro, per divorare, per lampeggiare.

And you, son of man, prophesy and say, Thus says the Lord God concerning the sons of Ammon and concerning their reproach: Say, A sword, a sword is drawn for the slaughter; it is polished to cause it to devour to the uttermost and to flash like lightning,

29 ( 021-34) mentre hanno per te false visioni e fanno a te divinazioni bugiarde, per metterti sul collo dei malvagi uccisi, il cui giorno è giunto al tempo della punizione finale.

While they see for you false visions, while they divine lies for you to lay you upon the headless trunks of those who are slain, of the wicked whose day is coming at the time of the final reckoning and punishment.

30 ( 021-35) Rimetti la spada nel suo fodero. Io ti giudicherò nel luogo stesso dove fosti creata, nel paese della tua origine.

Return to its sheath. In the place where you were created, in the land of your origin and of your birth, I will judge you.

31 ( 021-36) Riverserò su di te la mia indignazione, soffierò contro di te nel fuoco della mia ira e ti consegnerò in mano di uomini brutali, artefici di distruzione.

And I will pour out My indignation upon you; I will blow upon you with the fire of My wrath and will deliver you into the hand of brutish men, skillful to destroy.

32 ( 021-37) Sarai preda del fuoco, il tuo sangue sarà sparso in mezzo al paese; non sarai piú ricordata, perché io, l'Eterno, ho parlato».

You shall be for fuel to the fire; your blood shall be in the midst of the land; you shall be no more remembered, for I the Lord have spoken it.
