1 N ell'anno in cui Tartan venne a Ashdod, mandato da Sargon, re di Assiria, egli combattè contro Ashdod e la prese.

In the year that the Tartan came to Ashdod in Philistia, sent by Sargon king of Assyria, he fought against Ashdod and took it.

2 I n quel tempo l'Eterno parlò per mezzo di Isaia, figlio di Amots, e gli disse: «Va' e rimuovi il sacco dai tuoi lombi e togli i calzari dai tuoi piedi». Egli fece così, andando nudo e scalzo.

At that time the Lord spoke by Isaiah son of Amoz, saying, Go, loose the sackcloth from off your loins and take your shoes off your feet. And he had done so, walking around stripped and barefoot.

3 Q uindi l'Eterno disse: «Come il mio servo Isaia è andato nudo e scalzo per tre anni quale segno e presagio contro l'Egitto e contro l'Etiopia

And the Lord said, As My servant Isaiah has walked naked and barefoot for three years, as a sign and forewarning concerning Egypt and concerning Cush (Ethiopia),

4 c osí il re di Assiria condurrà via i prigionieri dell'Egitto e i deportati dell'Etiopia, giovani e vecchi, nudi e scalzi, con le natiche scoperte, a vergogna dell'Egitto.

So shall the king of Assyria lead away the Egyptian captives and the Ethiopian exiles, young and old, naked and barefoot, even with buttocks uncovered—to the shame of Egypt.

5 A llora essi saranno spaventati e confusi, a causa dell'Etiopia, loro speranza, e a causa dell'Egitto, loro gloria.

And they shall be dismayed and confounded because of Ethiopia their hope and expectation and Egypt their glory and boast.

6 I n quel giorno gli abitanti di questa regione costiera diranno: «Ecco, che cosa è avvenuto a quelli nei quali riponevamo la nostra speranza e presso i quali ci eravamo rifugiati in cerca di aiuto, per essere liberati dal re di Assiria. Come scamperemo noi?».

And the inhabitants of this coastland will say in that day, See! This is what comes to those in whom we trusted and hoped, to whom we fled for help to deliver us from the king of Assyria! But we, how shall we escape ?
