1 I l principio dell'evangelo di Gesú Cristo, il Figlio di Dio,

The beginning of the good news (the Gospel) of Jesus Christ, the Son of God.

2 C ome sta scritto nei profeti: «Ecco, io mando il mio messaggero davanti alla tua faccia, il quale preparerà la tua via davanti a te.

Just as it is written in the prophet Isaiah: Behold, I send My messenger before Your face, who will make ready Your way—

3 V i è una voce di uno che grida nel deserto: "Preparate la via del Signore, raddrizzate i suoi sentieri"».

A voice of one crying in the wilderness, Prepare the way of the Lord, make His beaten tracks straight (level and passable)!

4 G iovanni comparve nel deserto, battezzando e predicando un battesimo di ravvedimento, per il perdono dei peccati.

John the Baptist appeared in the wilderness (desert), preaching a baptism '> obligating] repentance ( a change of one’s mind for the better, heartily amending one’s ways, with abhorrence of his past sins) in order to obtain forgiveness of and release from sins.

5 E tutto il paese della Giudea e quelli di Gerusalemme andavano a lui, ed erano tutti battezzati da lui nel fiume Giordano, confessando i loro peccati.

And there kept going out to him all the country of Judea and all the inhabitants of Jerusalem; and they were baptized by him in the river Jordan, as they were confessing their sins.

6 O r Giovanni era vestito di peli di cammello, aveva una cintura di cuoio intorno ai lombi e mangiava locuste e miele selvatico.

And John wore clothing woven of camel’s hair and had a leather girdle around his loins and ate locusts and wild honey.

7 E predicava, dicendo: «Dopo di me viene uno che è piú forte di me, al quale io non sono degno neppure di chinarmi a sciogliere il legaccio dei suoi sandali.

And he preached, saying, After me comes He Who is stronger (more powerful and more valiant) than I, the strap of Whose sandals I am not worthy or fit to stoop down and unloose.

8 I o vi ho battezzati con acqua, ma egli vi battezzerà con lo Spirito Santo»,

I have baptized you with water, but He will baptize you with the Holy Spirit.

9 E avvenne in quei giorni, che Gesú venne da Nazaret di Galilea e fu battezzato da Giovanni nel Giordano.

In those days Jesus came from Nazareth of Galilee and was baptized by John in the Jordan.

10 E subito, come usciva dall'acqua, vide aprirsi i cieli e lo Spirito scendere su di lui come una colomba.

And when He came up out of the water, at once he saw the heavens torn open and the Spirit like a dove coming down '> to enter] into Him.

11 E venne dal cielo una voce: «Tu sei il mio amato Figlio nel quale mi sono compiaciuto».

And there came a voice out from within heaven, You are My Beloved Son; in You I am well pleased.

12 S ubito dopo lo Spirito lo sospinse nel deserto;

Immediately the Spirit drove Him out into the wilderness (desert),

13 e rimase nel deserto quaranta giorni, tentato da Satana. Era con le fiere e gli angeli lo servivano.

And He stayed in the wilderness (desert) forty days, being tempted by Satan; and He was with the wild beasts, and the angels ministered to Him.

14 O ra, dopo che Giovanni fu messo in prigione, Gesú venne in Galilea predicando l'evangelo del regno di Dio

Now after John was arrested and put in prison, Jesus came into Galilee, preaching the good news (the Gospel) of the kingdom of God,

15 e dicendo: «Il tempo è compiuto e il regno di Dio è vicino. Ravvedetevi e credete all'evangelo».

And saying, The time is fulfilled (completed), and the kingdom of God is at hand; repent ( have a change of mind which issues in regret for past sins and in change of conduct for the better) and believe (trust in, rely on, and adhere to) the good news (the Gospel).

16 C amminando poi lungo il mare della Galilea, egli vide Simone e Andrea suo fratello, che gettavano la rete in mare, perche erano pescatori.

And passing along the shore of the Sea of Galilee, He saw Simon and Andrew the brother of Simon casting a net in the sea, for they were fishermen.

17 E Gesú disse loro: «Seguitemi, e io vi farò diventare pescatori di uomini».

And Jesus said to them, Come after Me and be My disciples, and I will make you to become fishers of men.

18 E d essi, lasciate subito le loro reti, lo seguirono.

And at once they left their nets and '> yielding up all claim to them] followed Him '> joining Him as disciples and siding with His party].

19 P oi, andando un po' oltre, vide Giacomo, figlio di Zebedeo, e Giovanni suo fratello, i quali riparavano le loro reti nella barca.

He went on a little farther and saw James the son of Zebedee, and John his brother, who were in boat putting their nets in order.

20 E subito li chiamò; ed essi, lasciato Zebedeo loro padre nella barca con gli operai, lo seguirono.

And immediately He called out to them, and '> abandoning all mutual claims] they left their father Zebedee in the boat with the hired men and went off after Him '> to be His disciples, side with His party, and follow Him].

21 P oi entrarono in Capernaum, e subito, in giorno di sabato, egli entrò nella sinagoga e insegnava.

And they entered into Capernaum, and immediately on the Sabbath He went into the synagogue and began to teach.

22 E la gente stupiva della sua dottrina perché egli li ammaestrava come uno che ha autorità e non come gli scribi,

And they were completely astonished at His teaching, for He was teaching as One Who possessed authority, and not as the scribes.

23 O ra nella loro sinagoga vi era un uomo posseduto da uno spirito immondo, il quale si mise a gridare,

Just at that time there was in their synagogue a man of an unclean spirit; and now he raised a deep and terrible cry from the depths of his throat, saying,

24 d icendo: «Che vi è fra noi e te, Gesú Nazareno? Sei tu venuto per distruggerci? Io so chi tu sei: Il Santo di Dio».

What have You to do with us, Jesus of Nazareth? Have You come to destroy us? I know who You are—the Holy One of God!

25 M a Gesú lo sgridò, dicendo: «Ammutolisci ed esci da costui!».

And Jesus rebuked him, saying, Hush up (be muzzled, gagged), and come out of him!

26 E lo spirito u immondo, straziandolo e mandando un gran grido, uscí da lui.

And the unclean spirit, throwing the man into convulsions and screeching with a loud voice, came out of him.

27 E tutti furono sbalorditi, tanto che si domandavano fra loro dicendo: «Che è mai questo? Quale nuova dottrina è mai questa? Egli comanda con autorità persino agli spiriti immondi, ed essi gli ubbidiscono».

And they were all so amazed and almost terrified that they kept questioning and demanding one of another, saying, What is this? What new (fresh) teaching! With authority He gives orders even to the unclean spirits and they obey Him!

28 E la sua fama si diffuse subito per tutta la regione intorno alla Galilea.

And immediately rumors concerning Him spread throughout all the region surrounding Galilee.

29 A ppena furono usciti dalla sinagoga, vennero nella casa di Simone e di Andrea, con Giacomo e Giovanni.

And at once He left the synagogue and went into the house of Simon and Andrew, accompanied by James and John.

30 O r la suocera di Simone giaceva a letto con la febbre ed essi subito gli parlarono di lei.

Now Simon’s mother-in-law had for some time been lying sick with a fever, and at once they told Him about her.

31 A llora egli si avvicinò, la prese per la mano e l'alzò, e immediatamente la febbre la lasciò ed essa si mise a servirli.

And He went up to her and took her by the hand and raised her up; and the fever left her, and she began to wait on them.

32 P oi, fattosi sera, dopo il tramonto del sole, gli portarono tutti i malati e gli indemoniati.

Now when it was evening, after the sun had set, they brought to Him all who were sick and those under the power of demons,

33 E tutta la città era affollata davanti alla porta.

Until the whole town was gathered together about the door.

34 E gli ne guarí molti, colpiti da varie malattie, e scacciò molti demoni, e non permetteva ai demoni di parlare perché sapevano chi egli fosse.

And He cured many who were afflicted with various diseases; and He drove out many demons, but would not allow the demons to talk because they knew Him '> intuitively].

35 P oi il mattino seguente, essendo ancora molto buio, Gesú si alzò, uscí e se ne andò in un luogo solitario e là pregava.

And in the morning, long before daylight, He got up and went out to a deserted place, and there He prayed.

36 E Simone e quelli che erano con lui lo cercarono.

And Simon and those who were with him followed Him '> pursuing Him eagerly and hunting Him out],

37 E , trovatolo, gli dissero: «Tutti ti cercano!».

And they found Him and said to Him, Everybody is looking for You.

38 E d egli disse loro: «Andiamo nei villaggi vicini affinché io predichi anche là, perché è per questo che io sono venuto».

And He said to them, Let us be going on into the neighboring country towns, that I may preach there also; for that is why I came out.

39 E d egli andò predicando nelle loro sinagoghe per tutta la Galilea e scacciando demoni.

He went throughout the whole of Galilee, preaching in their synagogues and driving out demons.

40 E venne da lui un lebbroso il quale, supplicandolo, cadde in ginocchio davanti a lui, e gli disse: «Se vuoi, tu puoi mondarmi».

And a leper came to Him, begging Him on his knees and saying to Him, If You are willing, You are able to make me clean.

41 E Gesú, mosso a pietà, stese la mano, lo toccò e gli disse: «Sí, lo voglio, sii mondato!».

And being moved with pity and sympathy, Jesus reached out His hand and touched him, and said to him, I am willing; be made clean!

42 E , come ebbe detto questo, subito la lebbra lo lasciò e fu guarito.

And at once the leprosy left him and he was made clean.

43 P oi, dopo averlo severamente ammonito, lo mandò via subito,

And Jesus charged him sternly (sharply and threateningly, and with earnest admonition) and sent him away at once,

44 d icendogli: «Guardati dal farne parola ad alcuno, ma va mostrati al sacerdote e offri per la tua purificazione quanto ha prescritto Mosè, come testimonianza per loro».

And said to him, See that you tell nothing to anyone; but begone, show yourself to the priest, and offer for your purification what Moses commanded, as a proof (an evidence and witness) to the people.

45 M a egli, andandosene, cominciò a proclamare e a divulgare grandemente il fatto, al punto che Gesú non poteva piú entrare pubblicamente in città, ma se ne stava fuori in luoghi solitari; e da ogni parte venivano a lui.

But he went out and began to talk so freely about it and blaze abroad the news that could no longer openly go into a town but was outside in desert places. But the people kept on coming to Him from all sides and every quarter.
