1 S ei giorni dopo Gesú prese con sé Pietro, Giacomo e Giovanni suo fratello, e li condusse sopra un alto monte, in disparte;

And six days after this, Jesus took with Him Peter and James and John his brother, and led them up on a high mountain by themselves.

2 e fu trasfigurato alla loro presenza: la sua faccia risplendette come il sole e le sue vesti divennero candide come la luce.

And His appearance underwent a change in their presence; and His face shone clear and bright like the sun, and His clothing became as white as light.

3 E d ecco, apparvero loro Mosé ed Elia, che conversavano con lui.

And behold, there appeared to them Moses and Elijah, who kept talking with Him.

4 P ietro allora, prendendo la parola disse a Gesú: «Signore, è bene che noi stiamo qui; se vuoi, faremo qui tre tende: una per te, una per Mosé e una per Elia».

Then Peter began to speak and said to Jesus, Lord, it is good and delightful that we are here; if You approve, I will put up three booths here—one for You and one for Moses and one for Elijah.

5 M entre egli parlava ancora, ecco una nuvola luminosa li adombrò, e si udí una voce dalla nuvola che diceva: «Questi è il mio amato Figlio, in cui mi sono compiaciuto: ascoltatelo!».

While he was still speaking, behold, a shining cloud '> composed of light] overshadowed them, and a voice from the cloud said, This is My Son, My Beloved, with Whom I am '> have always been] delighted. Listen to Him!

6 E i discepoli, udito ciò, caddero con la faccia a terra e furono presi da gran spavento.

When the disciples heard it, they fell on their faces and were seized with alarm and struck with fear.

7 M a Gesú, accostatosi, li toccò e disse: «Alzatevi e non temete!».

But Jesus came and touched them and said, Get up, and do not be afraid.

8 E d essi, alzati gli occhi, non videro alcuno se non Gesú tutto solo.

And when they raised their eyes, they saw no one but Jesus only.

9 P oi, mentre scendevano dal monte, Gesú diede loro quest'ordine dicendo: «Non parlate a nessuno di questa visione, finché il Figlio dell'uomo non sia risuscitato dai morti».

And as they were going down the mountain, Jesus cautioned and commanded them, Do not mention to anyone what you have seen, until the Son of Man has been raised from the dead.

10 A llora i suoi discepoli lo interrogarono, dicendo: «Come mai dunque gli scribi, dicono che prima deve venire Elia?».

The disciples asked Him, Then why do the scribes say that Elijah must come first?

11 E Gesú rispose loro, dicendo: «Elia veramente deve venire prima e ristabilire ogni cosa.

He replied, Elijah does come and will get everything restored and ready.

12 M a io vi dico che Elia è già venuto ed essi non l'hanno riconosciuto, anzi l'hanno trattato come hanno voluto; cosí anche il Figlio dell'uomo dovrà soffrire da parte loro».

But I tell you that Elijah has come already, and they did not know or recognize him, but did to him as they liked. So also the Son of Man is going to be treated and suffer at their hands.

13 A llora i discepoli compresero che aveva parlato loro di Giovanni Battista.

Then the disciples understood that He spoke to them about John the Baptist.

14 Q uando giunsero presso la folla, un uomo gli si accostò e, inginocchiandosi davanti a lui,

And when they approached the multitude, a man came up to Him, kneeling before Him and saying,

15 d isse: «Signore, abbi pietà di mio figlio, perché è epilettico e soffre grandemente; egli cade spesso nel fuoco ed anche nell'acqua.

Lord, do pity and have mercy on my son, for he has epilepsy (is moonstruck) and he suffers terribly; for frequently he falls into the fire and many times into the water.

16 O r io l'ho presentato ai tuoi discepoli, ma essi non l'hanno potuto guarire».

And I brought him to Your disciples, and they were not able to cure him.

17 E Gesú, rispondendo, disse: «O generazione incredula e perversa! Fino a quando sarò con voi? Fino a quando vi sopporterò? Portatelo qui da me».

And Jesus answered, O you unbelieving ( warped, wayward, rebellious) and thoroughly perverse generation! How long am I to remain with you? How long am I to bear with you? Bring him here to Me.

18 G esú allora sgridò il demone, che uscí da lui; e da quell'istante il fanciullo fu guarito.

And Jesus rebuked the demon, and it came out of him, and the boy was cured instantly.

19 A llora i discepoli, accostatisi a Gesú in disparte, dissero: «Perché non siamo stati capaci di scacciarlo?».

Then the disciples came to Jesus and asked privately, Why could we not drive it out?

20 E Gesú disse loro: «Per la vostra incredulità; perché io vi dico in verità che, se avete fede quanto un granel di senape, direte a questo monte: "spostati da qui a là" ed esso si sposterà; e niente vi sarà impossibile.

He said to them, Because of the littleness of your faith '> firmly relying trust]. For truly I say to you, if you have faith '> that is living] like a grain of mustard seed, you can say to this mountain, Move from here to yonder place, and it will move; and nothing will be impossible to you.

21 O ra questa specie di demoni non esce se non mediante la preghiera e il digiuno».

But this kind does not go out except by prayer and fasting.

22 O ra, mentre essi s'intrattenevano nella Galilea, Gesú disse loro: «Il Figlio dell'uomo sta per essere dato nelle mani degli uomini,

When they were going about here and there in Galilee, Jesus said to them, The Son of Man is going to be turned over into the hands of men.

23 e d essi l'uccideranno; ma il terzo giorno egli risusciterà». Ed essi ne furono grandemente contristati.

And they will kill Him, and He will be raised again on the third day. And they were deeply and exceedingly grieved and distressed.

24 Q uando giunsero a Capernaum, gli esattori di didramme si accostarono a Pietro e dissero: «Il vostro maestro, non paga le didramme?».

When they arrived in Capernaum, the collectors of the half shekel went up to Peter and said, Does not your Teacher pay the half shekel?

25 E gli disse: «Sí». Quando fu entrato in casa, Gesú lo prevenne dicendo: «Che ti pare Simone? Da chi prendono i re della terra i tributi, o le tasse? Dai propri figli o dagli estranei?».

He answered, Yes. And when he came home, Jesus spoke to him first, saying, What do you think, Simon? From whom do earthly rulers collect duties or tribute—from their own sons or from others not of their own family?

26 P ietro gli disse: «Dagli estranei». Gesú disse: «I figli dunque sono esenti.

And when Peter said, From other people not of their own family, Jesus said to him, Then the sons are exempt.

27 T uttavia per non scandalizzarli, va'al mare, getta l'amo e prendi il primo pesce che verrà su; aprigli la bocca e vi troverai uno statere, prendilo e dallo loro per te e per me».

However, in order not to give offense and cause them to stumble '> to judge unfavorably and unjustly] go down to the sea and throw in a hook. Take the first fish that comes up, and when you open its mouth you will find there a shekel. Take it and give it to them to pay the temple tax for Me and for yourself.
