1 « Salmo di Asaf.» O DIO, le nazioni sono entrate nella tua eredità, hanno profanato il tuo santo tempio, hanno ridotto Gerusalemme in un cumulo di rovine.

O God, the nations have come into Your inheritance; Your sacred temple have they defiled; they have made Jerusalem heaps of ruins.

2 H anno dato i corpi morti dei tuoi servi in pasto agli uccelli del cielo e la carne dei tuoi santi alle fiere della campagna.

The dead bodies of Your servants they have given as food to the birds of the heavens, the flesh of Your saints to the beasts of the earth.

3 H anno sparso il loro sangue come acqua intorno a Gerusalemme, senza che alcuno desse loro sepoltura.

Their blood they have poured out like water round about Jerusalem, and there was none to bury them.

4 S iamo divenuti un obbrobrio per i nostri vicini, lo scherno e zimbello di quelli che ci stanno attorno.

we have become a taunt and reproach to our neighbors, a mocking and derision to those who are round about us.

5 F ino a quando, o Eterno? Rimarrai tu adirato per sempre? Arderà la tua gelosia come un fuoco?

How long, O Lord? Will You be angry forever? Shall Your jealousy burn like fire?

6 R iversa la tua ira sulle nazioni che non ti conoscono e sui regni che non invocano il tuo nome,

Pour out Your wrath on the Gentile nations who do not acknowledge You, and upon the kingdoms that do not call on Your name.

7 p oiché hanno divorato Giacobbe e hanno devastato la sua dimora.

For they have devoured Jacob and laid waste his dwelling and his pasture.

8 N on ricordare contro di noi le colpe dei nostri antenati; affrettati a venirci incontro con le tue compassioni perché siamo molto tribolati.

O do not remember against us the iniquities and guilt of our forefathers! Let Your compassion and tender mercy speedily come to meet us, for we are brought very low.

9 S occorrici, o DIO della nostra salvezza, per la gloria del tuo nome, e liberaci e perdona i nostri peccati per amore del tuo nome.

Help us, O God of our salvation, for the glory of Your name! Deliver us, forgive us, and purge away our sins for Your name’s sake.

10 P erché direbbero le nazioni: «Dov'è il loro DIO?». Davanti ai nostri occhi fa' conoscere fra le nazioni la vendetta del sangue sparso dei tuoi servi.

Why should the Gentile nations say, Where is their God? Let vengeance for the blood of Your servants which is poured out be known among the nations in our sight.

11 G iunga fino a te il gemito dei prigionieri, secondo la potenza del tuo braccio, salva quelli che sono condannati a morte.

Let the groaning and sighing of the prisoner come before You; according to the greatness of Your power and Your arm spare those who are appointed to die!

12 E restituisci ai nostri vicini sette volte tanto il vituperio che ti hanno fatto, o Signore.

And return into the bosom of our neighbors sevenfold the taunts with which they have taunted and scoffed at You, O Lord!

13 E noi tuo popolo e gregge del tuo pascolo, ti celebreremo per sempre e proclameremo la tua lode per ogni età.

Then we Your people, the sheep of Your pasture, will give You thanks forever; we will show forth and publish Your praise from generation to generation.
