1 L a parola dell'Eterno mi fu ancora rivolta, dicendo:

Moreover, the word of the Lord came to me, saying,

2 « E tu, figlio d'uomo, cosí dice il Signore, l'Eterno, al paese d'Israele: La fine! E' giunta la fine sulle quattro estremità del paese.

Also, son of man, thus says the Lord God to the land of Israel: An end! The end has come upon the four corners of the land.

3 O ra ti sovrasta la fine e io manderò contro di te la mia ira, ti giudicherò secondo le tue vie e ti farò ricadere addosso tutte le tue abominazioni.

Now is the end upon you, and I will send My anger upon you and will judge you according to your ways and will bring upon you retribution for all your abominations.

4 I l mio occhio non ti risparmierà e non avrò pietà, ma ti farò ricadere addosso le tue vie, e le tue abominazioni saranno in mezzo a te; allora riconoscerete che io sono l'Eterno».

And My eye will not spare you, neither will I have pity; but I will bring recompense for your evil ways upon you, while your abominations are in the midst of you; and you shall know (recognize, understand, and realize) that I am the Lord.

5 C osí dice il Signore, l'Eterno: «Una calamità, una calamità senza precedenti, ecco è venuta.

Thus says the Lord God: Behold, an evil is coming, only one evil.

6 L a fine è giunta, la fine è giunta. Si è destata per te; ecco, è giunta.

An end has come! The end has come! awakes against you. See, it has come!

7 E ' giunta su di te la rovina, o abitante del paese. Il tempo è arrivato è vicino il giorno dei guai e non di grida di gioia sui monti.

Your turn (your doom) has come upon you, O inhabitant of the land; the time has come, the day is near, a day not of joyful shouting, but a day of tumult upon the mountains.

8 O ra, tra poco, verserò il mio furore su di te e sfogherò su di te la mia ira, ti giudicherò secondo le tue vie e ti farò ricadere addosso tutte le tue abominazioni.

Now will I shortly pour out My wrath upon you and finish spending My anger against you, and I will judge you according to your ways and will recompense you with punishment for all your abominations.

9 I l mio occhio non ti risparmierà e non avrò pietà, ma ti farò ricadere addosso le tue vie e le tue abominazioni saranno in mezzo a te; allora riconoscerete che io sono l'Eterno che colpisce.

And My eye will not spare, nor will I have pity. I will punish you according to your ways while your abominations are right in the midst of you. And you shall know, understand, and realize that it is I the Lord Who smites you.

10 E cco il giorno, eccolo giunto. E' arrivata la rovina. La verga è fiorita, l'orgoglio è sbocciato.

Behold, the day! Behold, it has come! Your doom has gone forth, the rod has blossomed, pride has budded.

11 L a violenza è cresciuta come verga di empietà. Non rimarrà nessuno di essi, nessuno della loro moltitudine, nessuno di essi; non ci sarà alcun lamento per loro.

Violence has grown up into a rod of wickedness; none of shall remain, none of their abundance, none of their wealth; neither shall there be preeminence among them or wailing for them.

12 I l tempo è arrivato, il giorno si avvicina. Chi compra non si rallegri, chi vende non si addolori, perché un'ira ardente sovrasta su tutta la loro moltitudine.

The time has come, the day draws near. Let not the buyer rejoice nor the seller mourn, for wrath is upon all their multitude.

13 P oiché chi vende non tornerà in possesso di ciò che ha venduto, anche se rimarrà ancora in vita, perché la visione riguarda tutta la sua moltitudine e non sarà revocata, e nessuno potrà preservare la propria vita, vivendo nell'iniquità.

For the seller shall not return to that which is sold, even were they yet alive. For the vision is touching whole multitude; he shall not come back, neither shall any strengthen himself whose life is in his iniquity.

14 H anno suonato la tromba, e tutti sono pronti, ma nessuno va alla battaglia, perché l'ardore della mia ira è contro tutta la loro moltitudine.

They have blown the trumpet and have made all ready, but none goes to the battle, for My wrath is upon all their multitude.

15 D i fuori la spada, di dentro la peste e la fame. Chi è nei campi morirà per la spada, chi è in città sarà divorato dalla fame e dalla peste.

The sword is without and pestilence and famine are within. He who is in the field shall die by the sword, and him who is in the city shall famine and pestilence devour.

16 M a i loro fuggiaschi che riusciranno a mettersi in salvo staranno su per i monti come le colombe della valle, tutti gemendo ciascuno per la propria iniquità.

But those of them that escape shall escape, but shall be on the mountains like doves of the valleys, all of them moaning, every one in his iniquity’s.

17 T utte le mani diverranno fiacche e tutte le ginocchia saranno deboli come acqua.

All hands shall be feeble and all knees shall be weak as water.

18 S i vestiranno di sacco e lo spavento li coprirà, la vergogna sarà su tutti i volti e la calvizie su tutte le loro teste.

They shall also gird themselves with sackcloth; horror and dismay shall cover them, and shame shall be upon all faces and baldness upon all their heads.

19 G etteranno il loro argento per le strade e il loro oro diventerà un'immondezza. Il loro argento e il loro oro non li potranno salvare nel giorno del furore dell'Eterno non potranno saziare la loro anima né riempire il loro ventre, perché la loro iniquità è divenuta una causa d'intoppo.

They shall cast their silver into the streets, and their gold shall be like an unclean thing or rubbish; their silver and their gold shall not be able to deliver them in the day of the wrath of the Lord; they shall not satisfy their animal cravings nor fill their stomachs with them, for has been the stumbling block of their iniquity.

20 H anno fatto della bellezza dei loro ornamenti un motivo di orgoglio, ne hanno fatto immagini delle loro abominazioni e i loro idoli esecrandi. Per questo li renderò per loro un'immondezza,

As for the beauty of gold for ornament, they turned it to pride and made of it the images of their abominations (idols) and of their detestable things. Therefore I will make it to them as an unclean thing.

21 e li darò come preda nelle mani degli stranieri e come bottino agli empi della terra che lo profaneranno.

And I will give it for plunder into the hands of strangers and to the wicked of the earth for a spoil, and they shall profane it.

22 D istoglierò da loro la mia faccia ed essi profaneranno il mio luogo segreto; vi entreranno uomini violenti e lo profaneranno.

Also I will turn My face from them and they shall profane My secret treasure; and robbers shall enter into it and profane it.

23 P repara una catena, perché il paese è pieno di delitti di sangue e la città è piena di violenza.

Prepare the chain, for the land is full of bloodguiltiness and the city is full of violence.

24 F arò venire le nazioni malvagie che s'impadroniranno delle loro case; farò venir meno la superbia dei potenti e i loro luoghi sacri saranno profanati.

Therefore I will bring in the worst of the nations, who will take possession of the houses; I will also silence their strongholds and put an end to their proud might, and their holy places and those who sanctify them shall be profaned.

25 L a distruzione giunge. Essi cercheranno la pace, ma non vi sarà.

Distress, panic, and destruction shall come, and they shall seek peace, and there shall be none.

26 V errà calamità su calamità, e ci saranno cattive notizie dietro cattive notizie. Allora chiederanno una visione a un profeta, ma la legge verrà meno al sacerdote e il consiglio agli anziani.

Calamity shall come upon calamity and rumor shall be upon rumor, and they shall seek a vision of the prophet; and the law and instruction shall cease from the priest and counsel from the elders.

27 I l re sarà in lutto, il principe si vestirà di desolazione e le mani del popolo del paese saranno prese da spavento. Io li tratterò secondo la loro condotta e li giudicherò secondo i loro giudizi; allora riconosceranno che io sono l'Eterno».

The king shall wear mourning and the prince shall clothe himself with garments of despair and desolation, while the hands of the people of the land shall tremble; for I will do to them in accordance with their ways, and according to their deserts will I judge them; and they shall know, recognize, and realize that I am the Lord.
