1 P arole di Amos, uno dei mandriani di Tekoa, che ebbe in visione riguardo a Israele, al tempo di Uzziah re di Giuda e al tempo di Geroboamo, figlio di Joas, re d'Israele, due anni prima del terremoto.

The words of Amos, who was among the herdsmen and sheep masters of Tekoa, which he saw concerning Israel in the days of Uzziah king of Judah and in the days of Jeroboam the son of Joash, king of Israel, two years before the earthquake.

2 E gli disse: «L'Eterno rugge da Sion e fa sentire la sua voce da Gerusalemme; i pascoli dei pastori fanno cordoglio e la sommità del Karmel è inaridita».

And he said, The Lord roars out of Zion and utters His voice from Jerusalem; then the pastures of the shepherds mourn and the top of Carmel dries up.

3 C osí parla l'Eterno: «Per tre misfatti di Damasco, anzi per quattro, io non revocherò la sua punizione, perché hanno tritato Galaad con trebbie di ferro.

Thus says the Lord: For three transgressions of Damascus and for four, I will not reverse the punishment of it or revoke My word concerning it, because they have threshed Gilead with iron sledges.

4 P erciò manderò fuoco nella casa di Hazael, che divorerà i palazzi di Benhadad.

So I will send a fire upon the house of Hazael which shall devour the palaces and strongholds of Ben-hadad.

5 S pezzerò anche le sbarre di Damasco sterminerò l'abitante da Bikath-aven e chi detiene lo scettro da Beth-eden, e il popolo di Siria andrà in cattività a Kir», dice l'Eterno.

I will break also the bar of Damascus and cut off the inhabitant from the plain of Aven or On, and him who holds the scepter from Beth-eden; and the people of Syria shall go into exile to Kir, says the Lord.

6 C osí dice l'Eterno: «Per tre misfatti di Gaza, anzi per quattro, io non revocherò la sua punizione, perché hanno deportato un'intera popolazione per consegnarla a Edom.

Thus says the Lord: For three transgressions of Gaza and for four, I will not reverse the punishment of it or revoke My word concerning it, because they carried away captive the whole population and delivered them up to Edom.

7 P erciò manderò fuoco entro le mura di Gaza, che ne divorerà i palazzi.

So I will send a fire on the wall of Gaza which shall devour its strongholds.

8 S terminerò l'abitante da Ashdod e chi detiene lo scettro da Ashkelon volgerò la mia mano contro Ekron, e il resto dei Filistei perirà», dice il Signore, l'Eterno.

And I will cut off the inhabitants from Ashdod and him who holds the scepter from Ashkelon, and I will turn My hand against Ekron; and the rest of the Philistines shall perish, says the Lord God.

9 C osí dice l'Eterno: «Per tre misfatti di Tiro, anzi per quattro, io non revocherò la sua punizione, perché hanno consegnato come prigionieri un'intera popolazione a Edom, senza ricordarsi del patto fraterno.

Thus says the Lord: For three transgressions of Tyre and for four, I will not reverse the punishment of it or revoke My word concerning it, because they delivered up a whole population to Edom and did not remember their brotherly covenant.

10 P erciò manderò fuoco entro le mura di Tiro, che ne divorerà i palazzi».

So I will send a fire on the wall of Tyre which shall devour its strongholds.

11 C osí dice l'Eterno: «Per tre misfatti di Edom, anzi per quattro, io non revocherò la sua punizione, perché ha inseguito suo fratello con la spada, soffocando ogni compassione; la sua ira dilania in continuazione e conserva la sua collera per sempre.

Thus says the Lord: For three transgressions of Edom and for four, I will not reverse the punishment of it or revoke My word concerning it, because he pursued his brother Jacob (Israel) with the sword, corrupting his compassions and casting off all pity, and his anger tore perpetually and his wrath he kept and heeded forever.

12 P erciò manderò fuoco contro Teman, che divorerà i palazzi di Botsrah».

So I will send a fire upon Teman which shall devour the strongholds of Bozrah.

13 C osí dice l'Eterno: «Per tre misfatti dei figli di Ammon, anzi per quattro, io non revocherò la sua punizione, perché hanno sventrato le donne incinte di Galaad per allargare i loro confini.

Thus says the Lord: For three transgressions of the children of Ammon and for four, I will not reverse the punishment of it or revoke My word concerning it, because have ripped up women with child in Gilead, that they might enlarge their border.

14 P erciò accenderò un fuoco entro le mura di Rabbah, che ne divorerà i palazzi tra lo strepito di un giorno di battaglia, tra il turbine in un giorno di uragano.

So I will kindle a fire in the wall of Rabbah and it shall devour the strongholds of it, with shouting in the day of battle, with a tempest in the day of the whirlwind;

15 I l loro re andrà in cattività, egli insieme ai suoi capi», dice l'Eterno.

And their king shall go into exile, he and his princes together, says the Lord.
