The heavens declare the glory of God; and the firmament shows and proclaims His handiwork.

2 u n giorno proferisce parole all'Altro, e una notte rivela conoscenza all'altra.

Day after day pours forth speech, and night after night shows forth knowledge.

3 N on hanno favella, né parole; la loro voce non s'ode;

There is no speech nor spoken word; their voice is not heard.

4 m a la loro armonia si diffonde per tutta la terra e il loro messaggio giunge fino all'estremità del mondo; nei cieli Dio ha posto una tenda per il sole;

Yet their voice goes out through all the earth, their sayings to the end of the world. Of the heavens has God made a tent for the sun,

5 e d esso è come uno sposo che esce dalla sua camera di nozze, esulta come un prode che percorre la sua via.

Which is as a bridegroom coming out of his chamber; and it rejoices as a strong man to run his course.

6 E sso sorge da una estremità dei cieli, e il suo giro giunge fino all'altra estremità; niente è nascosto al suo calore.

Its going forth is from the end of the heavens, and its circuit to the ends of it; and nothing is hidden from the heat of it.

7 L a legge dell'Eterno è perfetta, essa ristora l'anima; la testimonianza dell'Eterno è verace e rende savio il semplice.

The law of the Lord is perfect, restoring the person; the testimony of the Lord is sure, making wise the simple.

8 I precetti dell'Eterno sono giusti e rallegrano il cuore, il comandamento dell'Eterno è puro e illumina gli occhi.

The precepts of the Lord are right, rejoicing the heart; the commandment of the Lord is pure and bright, enlightening the eyes.

9 I l timore dell'Eterno è puro, rimane in eterno; i giudizi dell'Eterno sono verità, tutti quanti sono giusti;

The fear of the Lord is clean, enduring forever; the ordinances of the Lord are true and righteous altogether.

10 e ssi sono piú desiderabili dell'oro, sí, piú di molto oro finissimo; sono piú dolci del miele, di quello che stilla dai favi.

More to be desired are they than gold, even than much fine gold; they are sweeter also than honey and drippings from the honeycomb.

11 A nche il tuo servo è da essi istruito vi è grande ricompensa ad osservarli.

Moreover, by them is Your servant warned (reminded, illuminated, and instructed); and in keeping them there is great reward.

12 C hi conosce i suoi errori? Purificami da quelli che mi sono occulti.

Who can discern his lapses and errors? Clear me from hidden faults.

13 P reserva inoltre il tuo servo dai peccati volontari, e fa che non signoreggino su di me; allora io sarò integro e sarò puro da grandi trasgressioni.

Keep back Your servant also from presumptuous sins; let them not have dominion over me! Then shall I be blameless, and I shall be innocent and clear of great transgression.

14 S iano gradite davanti a te le parole della mia bocca e la meditazione del mio cuore, o Eterno, mia rocca e mio redentore.

Let the words of my mouth and the meditation of my heart be acceptable in Your sight, O Lord, my Rock and my Redeemer.
