1 C ome giunse il giorno della Pentecoste, essi erano tutti riuniti con una sola mente nello stesso luogo.

And when the day of Pentecost had fully come, they were all assembled together in one place,

2 E all'improvviso venne dal cielo un suono come di vento impetuoso che soffia, e riempí tutta la casa dove essi sedevano.

When suddenly there came a sound from heaven like the rushing of a violent tempest blast, and it filled the whole house in which they were sitting.

3 E apparvero loro delle lingue come di fuoco che si dividevano, e andarono a posarsi su ciascuno di loro.

And there appeared to them tongues resembling fire, which were separated and distributed and which settled on each one of them.

4 C osí furono tutti ripieni di Spirito Santo e cominciarono a parlare in altre lingue, secondo che lo Spirito dava loro di esprimersi.

And they were all filled (diffused throughout their souls) with the Holy Spirit and began to speak in other (different, foreign) languages (tongues), as the Spirit kept giving them clear and loud expression.

5 O r a Gerusalemme dimoravano dei Giudei, uomini pii, da ogni nazione sotto il cielo.

Now there were then residing in Jerusalem Jews, devout and God-fearing men from every country under heaven.

6 Q uando si fece quel suono, la folla si radunò e fu confusa, perché ciascuno di loro li udiva parlare nella sua propria lingua.

And when this sound was heard, the multitude came together and they were astonished and bewildered, because each one heard them speaking in his own dialect.

7 E tutti stupivano e si meravigliavano, e si dicevano l'un l'altro: «Ecco, non sono Galilei tutti questi che parlano?

And they were beside themselves with amazement, saying, Are not all these who are talking Galileans?

8 C ome mai ciascuno di noi li ode parlare nella propria lingua natìa?

Then how is it that we hear, each of us, in our own (particular) dialect to which we were born?

9 N oi Parti, Medi, Elamiti e abitanti della Mesopotamia, della Giudea e della Cappadocia, del Ponto e dell'Asia,

Parthians and Medes and Elamites and inhabitants of Mesopotamia, Judea and Cappadocia, Pontus and Asia,

10 d ella Frigia e della Panfilia, dell'Egitto e delle parti della Libia che è di fronte a Cirene e noi residenti di passaggio da Roma, Giudei e proseliti,

Phrygia and Pamphylia, Egypt and the parts of Libya about Cyrene, and the transient residents from Rome, both Jews and the proselytes,

11 C retesi ed Arabi, li udiamo parlare delle grandi cose di Dio nelle nostre lingue!».

Cretans and Arabians too—we all hear them speaking in our own native tongues the mighty works of God!

12 E tutti stupivano ed erano perplessi, e si dicevano l'un l'altro: «Che vuol dire questo?».

And all were beside themselves with amazement and were puzzled and bewildered, saying one to another, What can this mean?

13 A ltri invece li schernivano e diceva no: «Sono ripieni di vin dolce!».

But others made a joke of it and derisively said, They are simply drunk and full of sweet wine.

14 M a Pietro si alzò in piedi con gli undici e ad alta voce parlò loro: «Giudei e voi tutti che abitate in Gerusalemme, vi sia noto questo e prestate attenzione alle mie parole.

But Peter, standing with the eleven, raised his voice and addressed them: You Jews and all you residents of Jerusalem, let this be to you so that you will know and understand; listen closely to what I have to say.

15 C ostoro non sono ubriachi, come voi ritenete, poiché è solo la terza ora del giorno.

For these men are not drunk, as you imagine, for it is the third hour (about 9: 00 a. m.) of the day;

16 M a questo è ciò che fu detto dal profeta Gioele:

But this is what was spoken through the prophet Joel:

17 E avverrà negli ultimi giorni, dice Dio, che spanderò del mio Spirito sopra ogni carne; e i vostri figli e le vostre figlie profetizzeranno, i vostri giovani avranno delle visioni e i vostri vecchi sogneranno dei sogni.

And it shall come to pass in the last days, God declares, that I will pour out of My Spirit upon all mankind, and your sons and your daughters shall prophesy '> telling forth the divine counsels] and your young men shall see visions ( divinely granted appearances), and your old men shall dream '> divinely suggested] dreams.

18 I n quei giorni spanderò del mio Spirito sopra i miei servi e sopra le mie serve, e profetizzeranno.

Yes, and on My menservants also and on My maidservants in those days I will pour out of My Spirit, and they shall prophesy '> telling forth the divine counsels and predicting future events pertaining especially to God’s kingdom].

19 E farò prodigi su nel cielo e segni giú sulla terra: sangue, fuoco e vapore di fumo.

And I will show wonders in the sky above and signs on the earth beneath, blood and fire and smoking vapor;

20 I l sole sarà mutato in tenebre e la luna in sangue, prima che venga il grande e glorioso giorno del Signore.

The sun shall be turned into darkness and the moon into blood before the obvious day of the Lord comes—that great and notable and conspicuous and renowned.

21 E avverrà che chiunque avrà invocato il nome del Signore sarà salvato".

And it shall be that whoever shall call upon the name of the Lord '> invoking, adoring, and worshiping the Lord—Christ] shall be saved.

22 U omini d'Israele, ascoltate queste parole: Gesú il Nazareno, uomo accreditato da Dio tra di voi per mezzo di potenti operazioni, prodigi e segni che Dio fece tra di voi per mezzo di lui, come anche voi sapete,

You men of Israel, listen to what I have to say: Jesus of Nazareth, a Man accredited and pointed out and shown forth and commended and attested to you by God by the mighty works and wonders and signs which God worked through Him in your midst, as you yourselves know—

23 e gli, dico, secondo il determinato consiglio e prescienza di Dio, vi fu dato nelle mani e voi lo prendeste, e per mani di iniqui lo inchiodaste alla croce e lo uccideste,

This Jesus, when delivered up according to the definite and fixed purpose and settled plan and foreknowledge of God, you crucified and put out of the way by the hands of lawless and wicked men.

24 M a Dio lo ha risuscitato, avendolo sciolto dalle angosce della morte, poiché non era possibile che fosse da essa trattenuto.

God raised Him up, liberating Him from the pangs of death, seeing that it was not possible for Him to continue to be controlled or retained by it.

25 I nfatti Davide dice di lui: "Io ho avuto del continuo il Signore davanti a me, perché egli è alla mia destra, affinché io non sia smosso.

For David says in regard to Him, I saw the Lord constantly before me, for He is at my right hand that I may not be shaken or overthrown or cast down.

26 P er questo si è rallegrato il cuore mio e ha giubilato la mia lingua, e anche la mia carne dimorerà nella speranza.

Therefore my heart rejoiced and my tongue exulted exceedingly; moreover, my flesh also will dwell in hope.

27 P oiché tu non lascerai l'anima mia nell'Ades e non permetterai che il tuo Santo veda la corruzione.

For You will not abandon my soul, leaving it helpless in Hades (the state of departed spirits), nor let Your Holy One know decay or see destruction.

28 T u mi hai fatto conoscere le vie della vita, tu mi riempirai di gioia alla tua presenza".

You have made known to me the ways of life; You will enrapture me with and in Your presence.

29 F ratelli, si può ben liberamente dire intorno al patriarca Davide che egli morí e fu sepolto; e il suo sepolcro si trova tra di noi fino al giorno d'oggi.

Brethren, it is permitted me to tell you confidently and with freedom concerning the patriarch David that he both died and was buried, and his tomb is with us to this day.

30 E gli dunque, essendo profeta, sapeva che Dio gli aveva con giuramento promesso che dal frutto dei suoi lombi, secondo la carne, avrebbe suscitato il Cristo per farlo sedere sul suo trono;

Being however a prophet, and knowing that God had sealed to him with an oath that He would set one of his descendants on his throne,

31 e , prevedendo le cose a venire, parlò della risurrezione di Cristo, dicendo che l'anima sua non sarebbe stata lasciata nell'Ades e che la sua carne non avrebbe visto la corruzione.

He, foreseeing this, spoke of the resurrection of the Christ (the Messiah) that He was not deserted and left in Hades (the state of departed spirits), nor did His body know decay or see destruction.

32 Q uesto Gesú, Dio lo ha risuscitato; e di questo noi tutti siamo testimoni.

This Jesus God raised up, and of that all we are witnesses.

33 E gli dunque, essendo stato innalzato alla destra di Dio e avendo ricevuto dal Padre la promessa dello Spirito Santo, ha sparso quello che ora voi vedete e udite.

Being therefore lifted high by and to the right hand of God, and having received from the Father the promised Holy Spirit, He has made this outpouring which you yourselves both see and hear.

34 P oiché Davide non è salito in cielo anzi egli stesso dice: "Il Signore ha detto al mio Signore: Siedi alla mia destra,

For David did not ascend into the heavens; yet he himself says, The Lord said to my Lord, Sit at My right hand and share My throne

35 f inché io abbia posto i tuoi nemici come sgabello dei tuoi piedi

Until I make Your enemies a footstool for Your feet.

36 S appia dunque con certezza tutta la casa d'Israele che quel Gesú che voi avete crocifisso, Dio lo ha fatto Signore e Cristo»,

Therefore let the whole house of Israel recognize beyond all doubt and acknowledge assuredly that God has made Him both Lord and Christ (the Messiah)—this Jesus Whom you crucified.

37 O r essi, udite queste cose, furono compunti nel cuore e chiesero a Pietro e agli apostoli: «Fratelli, che dobbiamo fare?».

Now when they heard this they were stung (cut) to the heart, and they said to Peter and the rest of the apostles (special messengers), Brethren, what shall we do?

38 A llora Pietro disse loro: «Ravvedetevi e ciascuno di voi sia battezzato nel nome di Gesú Cristo per il perdono dei peccati, e voi riceverete il dono dello Spirito Santo.

And Peter answered them, Repent (change your views and purpose to accept the will of God in your inner selves instead of rejecting it) and be baptized, every one of you, in the name of Jesus Christ for the forgiveness of and release from your sins; and you shall receive the gift of the Holy Spirit.

39 P oiché la promessa è per voi e per i vostri figli e per tutti coloro che sono lontani, per quanti il Signore Dio nostro ne chiamerà».

For the promise is to and for you and your children, and to and for all that are far away, to and for as many as the Lord our God invites and bids to come to Himself.

40 E con molte altre parole li scongiurava e li esortava, dicendo: «Salvatevi da questa perversa generazione».

And solemnly and earnestly witnessed (testified) and admonished (exhorted) with much more continuous speaking and warned (reproved, advised, encouraged) them, saying, Be saved from this crooked (perverse, wicked, unjust) generation.

41 Q uelli dunque che ricevettero la sua parola lietamente furono battezzati; in quel giorno furono aggiunte circa tremila persone.

Therefore those who accepted and welcomed his message were baptized, and there were added that day about 3, 000 souls.

42 E ssi erano perseveranti nel seguire l'insegnamento degli apostoli, nella comunione, nel rompere il pane e nelle preghiere.

And they steadfastly persevered, devoting themselves constantly to the instruction and fellowship of the apostles, to the breaking of bread and prayers.

43 E d erano tutti presi da timore; e molti segni e miracoli si facevano per mano degli apostoli.

And a sense of awe (reverential fear) came upon every soul, and many wonders and signs were performed through the apostles (the special messengers).

44 O r tutti coloro che credevano stavano insieme ed avevano ogni cosa in comune.

And all who believed (who adhered to and trusted in and relied on Jesus Christ) were united and they had everything in common;

45 E vendevano i poderi e i beni e li distribuivano a tutti, secondo il bisogno di ciascuno.

And they sold their possessions (both their landed property and their movable goods) and distributed the price among all, according as any had need.

46 E perseveravano con una sola mente tutti i giorni nel tempio e rompendo il pane di casa in casa, prendevano il cibo insieme con gioia e semplicità di cuore,

And day after day they regularly assembled in the temple with united purpose, and in their homes they broke bread. They partook of their food with gladness and simplicity and generous hearts,

47 l odando Dio e godendo il favore di tutto il popolo. E il Signore aggiungeva alla chiesa ogni giorno coloro che erano salvati.

Constantly praising God and being in favor and goodwill with all the people; and the Lord kept adding daily those who were being saved.
