1 E lihu proseguí ancora, dicendo:

Elihu proceeded and said,

2 « Aspetta un po' e ti mostrerò che ci sono ancora cose da dire da parte di Dio.

Bear with me and wait a little longer, and I will show you, for I have something still to say on God’s behalf.

3 P renderò la mia conoscenza da lontano e renderò giustizia a colui che mi ha fatto.

I will bring my knowledge from afar and will ascribe righteousness to my Maker.

4 C ertamente le mie parole non sono bugiarde; davanti ti sta un uomo con una conoscenza impeccabile.

For truly my words shall not be false; He Who is perfect in knowledge is with you.

5 E cco, Dio è potente, ma non disprezza alcuno; è potente nella forza della sua Sapienza.

Behold! God is mighty, and yet despises no one nor regards anything as trivial; He is mighty in power of understanding and heart.

6 E gli non lascia vivere il malvagio e rende giustizia agli oppressi.

He does not prolong the life of the wicked, but gives the needy and afflicted their right.

7 N on distoglie i suoi occhi dai giusti, ma li fa sedere per sempre con i re sul trono; cosí sono messi in alto.

He withdraws not His eyes from the righteous (the upright in right standing with God); but He sets them forever with kings upon the throne, and they are exalted.

8 S e però sono legati in catene e trattenuti in lacci di afflizione,

And if they are bound in fetters and held by cords of affliction,

9 a llora mostra loro le opere loro e le loro trasgressioni, perché si sono insuperbiti.

Then He shows to them their deeds and their transgressions, that they have acted arrogantly.

10 E gli apre cosí i loro orecchi alla correzione e li esorta ad allontanarsi dal male.

He also opens their ears to instruction and discipline, and commands that they return from iniquity.

11 S e ascoltano e si sottomettono, finiranno i loro giorni nel benessere e i loro anni nelle delizie;

If they obey and serve Him, they shall spend their days in prosperity and their years in pleasantness and joy.

12 s e però non ascoltano periranno per la spada, moriranno senza conoscenza.

But if they obey not, they shall perish by the sword, and they shall die in ignorance of true knowledge.

13 M a gli empi di cuore accumulano ira non gridano in cerca di aiuto,

But the godless and profane in heart heap up anger; they do not cry to Him when He binds them.

14 c osí muoiono ancora giovani e la loro vita finisce tra i sodomiti.

They die in youth, and their life perishes among the unclean (those who are sodomites).

15 D io libera gli afflitti mediante la loro afflizione e apre i loro orecchi mediante la sventura.

He delivers the afflicted in their affliction and opens their ears in adversity.

16 E gli vuole sottrarre anche te dal morso dell'avversità, per portarti in un luogo ampio senza restrizione, con una tavola imbandita piena di cibi succulenti.

Indeed, God would have allured you out of the mouth of distress into a broad place where there is no situation of perplexity or privation; and that which would be set on your table would be full of fatness.

17 M a tu colmi il giudizio del malvagio, e il giudizio e la giustizia ti afferreranno.

But if you are filled with the judgment of the wicked, judgment and justice will keep hold on you.

18 S e c'è collera, bada che egli non ti porti via con un sol colpo, perché una gran somma di denaro non potrebbe allontanarlo.

For let not wrath entice you into scorning chastisements; and let not the greatness of the ransom turn you aside.

19 D arà forse valore alle tue ricchezze, quando egli ha oro e tutte le risorse della potenza?

Will your cry be sufficient to keep you from distress, or will all the force of your strength do it?

20 N on desiderare la notte, in cui la gente è portata via dal suo luogo.

Desire not the night, when peoples are cut off from their places;

21 B ada di non volgerti all'iniquità, perché tu hai preferito questa afflizione.

Take heed, turn not to iniquity, for this you have chosen rather than affliction.

22 E cco, Dio è eccelso nella sua potenza; chi può insegnare come lui?

Behold, God exalts and does loftily in His power; who is a ruler or a teacher like Him?

23 C hi mai può imporgli la via da seguire e chi può dirgli: "Tu hai fatto male"?

Who has appointed God His way? Or who can say, You have done unrighteousness?

24 R icordati di magnificare le sue opere, che gli uomini hanno cantato;

Remember that you magnify God’s work, of which men have sung.

25 t utti gli uomini le ammirano, il mortale le può contemplare da lontano.

All men have looked upon God’s work; man may behold it afar off.

26 S í, Dio è grande, ma noi non lo conosciamo, e il numero dei suoi anni è imperscrutabile.

Behold, God is great, and we know Him not! The number of His years is unsearchable.

27 E gli attira in alto le gocce d'acqua sotto forma di vapore, che si condensa poi in pioggia,

For He draws up the drops of water, which distil as rain from His vapor,

28 c he le nubi riversano e lasciano cadere sull'uomo in gran quantità.

Which the skies pour down and drop abundantly upon mankind.

29 C hi può capire lo spiegamento delle nubi, il fragore che scoppia nella sua tenda?

Not only that, but can anyone understand the spreadings of the clouds or the thunderings of His pavilion?

30 E cco, egli spande intorno a sé la sua luce e copre le profondità del mare.

Behold, He spreads His lightning against the dark clouds and covers the roots of the sea.

31 P er mezzo di esse egli punisce i popoli e dà cibo in abbondanza.

For by God executes judgment upon the peoples; He gives food in abundance.

32 S i copre le mani con i fulmini e comanda loro di colpire il bersaglio.

He covers His hands with the lightning and commands it to strike the mark.

33 I l tuono parla di lui, anche il bestiame avverte la tempesta in arrivo.

His thunderings speak concerning Him; the cattle are told of His coming storm.
