1 P rosseguiu ainda Eliú e disse:

Elihu proceeded and said,

2 E spera-me um pouco, e mostrar-te-ei que ainda há razões a favor de Deus.

Bear with me and wait a little longer, and I will show you, for I have something still to say on God’s behalf.

3 D e longe trarei o meu conhecimento, e ao meu criador atribuirei a justiça.

I will bring my knowledge from afar and will ascribe righteousness to my Maker.

4 P ois, na verdade, as minhas palavras não serão falsas; contigo está um que tem perfeito conhecimento.

For truly my words shall not be false; He Who is perfect in knowledge is with you.

5 E is que Deus é mui poderoso, contudo a ninguém despre grande é no poder de entendimento.

Behold! God is mighty, and yet despises no one nor regards anything as trivial; He is mighty in power of understanding and heart.

6 E le não preserva a vida do ímpio, mas faz justiça aos aflitos.

He does not prolong the life of the wicked, but gives the needy and afflicted their right.

7 D o justo não aparta os seus olhos; antes com os reis no trono os faz sentar para sempre, e assim são exaltados.

He withdraws not His eyes from the righteous (the upright in right standing with God); but He sets them forever with kings upon the throne, and they are exalted.

8 E se estão presos em grilhões, e amarrados com cordas de aflição,

And if they are bound in fetters and held by cords of affliction,

9 e ntão lhes faz saber a obra deles, e as suas transgressões, porquanto se têm portado com soberba.

Then He shows to them their deeds and their transgressions, that they have acted arrogantly.

10 E abre-lhes o ouvido para a instrução, e ordena que se convertam da iniqüidade.

He also opens their ears to instruction and discipline, and commands that they return from iniquity.

11 S e o ouvirem, e o servirem, acabarão seus dias em prosperidade, e os seus anos em delícias.

If they obey and serve Him, they shall spend their days in prosperity and their years in pleasantness and joy.

12 M as se não o ouvirem, ã espada serão passados, e expirarão sem conhecimento.

But if they obey not, they shall perish by the sword, and they shall die in ignorance of true knowledge.

13 A ssim os ímpios de coração amontoam, a sua ira; e quando Deus os põe em grilhões, não clamam por socorro.

But the godless and profane in heart heap up anger; they do not cry to Him when He binds them.

14 E les morrem na mocidade, e a sua vida perece entre as prostitutas.

They die in youth, and their life perishes among the unclean (those who are sodomites).

15 A o aflito livra por meio da sua aflição, e por meio da opressão lhe abre os ouvidos.

He delivers the afflicted in their affliction and opens their ears in adversity.

16 A ssim também quer induzir-te da angústia para um lugar espaçoso, em que não há aperto; e as iguarias da tua mesa serão cheias de gordura.

Indeed, God would have allured you out of the mouth of distress into a broad place where there is no situation of perplexity or privation; and that which would be set on your table would be full of fatness.

17 M as tu estás cheio do juízo do ímpio; o juízo e a justiça tomam conta de ti.

But if you are filled with the judgment of the wicked, judgment and justice will keep hold on you.

18 C uida, pois, para que a ira não te induza a escarnecer, nem te desvie a grandeza do resgate.

For let not wrath entice you into scorning chastisements; and let not the greatness of the ransom turn you aside.

19 P revalecerá o teu clamor, ou todas as forças da tua fortaleza, para que não estejas em aperto?

Will your cry be sufficient to keep you from distress, or will all the force of your strength do it?

20 N ão suspires pela noite, em que os povos sejam tomados do seu lugar.

Desire not the night, when peoples are cut off from their places;

21 G uarda-te, e não declines para a iniqüidade; porquanto isso escolheste antes que a aflição.

Take heed, turn not to iniquity, for this you have chosen rather than affliction.

22 E is que Deus é excelso em seu poder; quem é ensinador como ele?

Behold, God exalts and does loftily in His power; who is a ruler or a teacher like Him?

23 Q uem lhe prescreveu o seu caminho? Ou quem poderá dizer: Tu praticaste a injustiça?

Who has appointed God His way? Or who can say, You have done unrighteousness?

24 L embra-te de engrandecer a sua obra, de que têm cantado os homens.

Remember that you magnify God’s work, of which men have sung.

25 T odos os homens a vêem; de longe a contempla o homem.

All men have looked upon God’s work; man may behold it afar off.

26 E is que Deus é grande, e nós não o conhecemos, e o número dos seus anos não se pode esquadrinhar.

Behold, God is great, and we know Him not! The number of His years is unsearchable.

27 P ois atrai a si as gotas de água, e do seu vapor as destila em chuva,

For He draws up the drops of water, which distil as rain from His vapor,

28 q ue as nuvens derramam e gotejam abundantemente sobre o homem.

Which the skies pour down and drop abundantly upon mankind.

29 P oderá alguém entender as dilatações das nuvens, e os trovões do seu pavilhão?

Not only that, but can anyone understand the spreadings of the clouds or the thunderings of His pavilion?

30 E is que ao redor de si estende a sua luz, e cobre o fundo do mar.

Behold, He spreads His lightning against the dark clouds and covers the roots of the sea.

31 P ois por estas coisas julga os povos e lhes dá mantimento em abundância.

For by God executes judgment upon the peoples; He gives food in abundance.

32 C obre as mãos com o relâmpago, e dá-lhe ordem para que fira o alvo.

He covers His hands with the lightning and commands it to strike the mark.

33 O fragor da tempestade dá notícia dele; até o gado pressente a sua aproximação.

His thunderings speak concerning Him; the cattle are told of His coming storm.
